I think the contention is that it just isn't a good look, especially after some of the 'problems' the old site had with certain mods, and perceptions of mods, etc.
as much as it's kind of sadistically amusing to watch people yell at somebody totally unrelated because they're still mad about whatever they think i did wrong like a year ago, i don't think having to aggressively worry about how it "looks" to post a staff goty thread or whatever is really going to improve RE moderation on net

User warned for: Thread whining
Why put a list this like when voting is still active? I mean, it's cool to know what certain people would pick, sure, but doesn't it kinda undermine the community feeling of the GOTY voting thread? It preempts the results and makes it feel less important during the voting process. That's kinda how I feel about this. I think it would be super cool to have something like this AFTER the results are out though, it just feels like a weird distraction during an ongoing vote.

Good to know which mods/admins to respect and which ones to ignore for their horrible taste in games.

Happy to see some recognition for Nioh, which will end up in my top 3 this year. 90+ hours well spent. Disappointed to see no love for the true goty, M+R :p

Well, the mods have superior taste.

Stuff like this has always been weird to me though: "While I do believe that Zelda: Breath of the Wild is undoubtedly the best game of the year, it has already gotten enough attention.". What's with this participation trophy mentality?
