All 3 Nolan Batman 4k are part of buy 3 4k for $49.99 on Amazon. BB and TDK are both out of stock but I was able to lock in on that price.

Why can't I rent (for example) Valerian on 4k? Are they withholding it as some kind of value beat?

Got my replacement 4K Nolan set cause my first one came with tons of damage to every case. This one is perfect EXCEPT they gave me two copies of Rises instead of Dark Knight. Pretty funny. I haven't sent my first set back yet, so I'll just keep the DK from it and send them the double with the broken cases.

20th Century Fox, Panasonic and Samsung Gain Momentum for Best Possible TV-Viewing Experience with HDR10+ Technology (Press Release)

20th Century Fox, Panasonic Corporation and Samsung Electronics today announced updates to the associated certification and logo program for the open, royalty-free dynamic metadata platform for High Dynamic Range (HDR), called HDR10+ which they initially announced last year at IFA.

The HDR10+ platform will soon be made available to content companies, ultra-high definition TVs, Blu-ray disc players/recorders and set-top box manufacturers, as well as SoC vendors, royalty-free with only a nominal administrative fee. Companies can view the new logo, learn about the license program including final specifications, adopter agreements and sign up to receive a notification when technical specifications for HDR10+ become available at http://www.hdr10plus.org. In addition, Ultra HD Blu-ray metadata generation tools have been developed with third parties and will soon be available for content creators enabling Ultra HD Blu-ray players to enter the market. Details on the content transfer and interface format for the content creation pipeline will also be released shortly.

HDR10+ will offer a genuinely premium HDR experience for viewers through a device certification program ensuring an accurate representation of the creative intent expressed in the content. Also, its workflow improvements for creators will encourage increased production of premium HDR content.

The HDR10+ license program will provide interested companies with the necessary technical and testing specifications to implement HDR10+ technology in a way that both maintains high picture quality and gives each manufacturer the ability to apply dynamic tone mapping innovatively. The accompanying certification program will ensure that HDR10+ compliant products meet good picture quality and deliver the creative intent of movie directors and cinematographers. A certified product will feature the HDR10+ logo, which signifies the product's excellent picture quality

rPr6RAlg.jpg

Key aspects of the license program will include:
  • Benefits for device manufacturers (e.g., TV, Ultra HD Blu-ray, OTT STB, etc.), content distribution services providers, SoC manufacturers, content publishers, and content creation tool providers.
  • No per unit royalty.
  • A nominal annual administration fee for device manufacturers, SoC manufacturers and content distribution service providers.
  • Technical specification, test specification, HDR10+ logo/logo guide, patents from the three companies directly related to the technical specification and the test specification.
  • Certification for devices will be performed by a third-party, authorized testing center.

Once the HDR10+ license program is open, the three founding companies will incorporate HDR10+ technologies in all future Ultra HD movie releases, selected TVs, Ultra HD Blu-ray player/recorders, and other products.

"It was important for us to create an open system that is flexible and offers a viewing experience much closer to the filmmaker's creative intent for the film," said Danny Kaye, Executive Vice President of 20th Century Fox, and Managing Director of the Fox Innovation Lab. "Together with Samsung and Panasonic, we aim to standardize the licensing process making it easy for partners, including content creators, television and device manufacturers, to incorporate this technology and improve the viewing experience for all audiences."

Support continues to grow for HDR10+ and companies are looking forward to applying the 3C specifications and certification program. More than 25 companies spanning many different industries have expressed strong interest in supporting the HDR10+ platform, further reinforcing its path to success.

Amazon Prime Video, the first streaming service provider to deliver HDR10+, has made the entire Prime Video HDR library available in HDR10+ globally. The Prime Video HDR10+ catalog includes hundreds of hours of content such as Prime Originals The Grand Tour, Golden Globe®-nominated The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Jean-Claude Van Johnson, The Tick and The Man in the High Castle plus hundreds of licensed titles.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will support HDR10+ to enable a dynamic metadata solution for Warner Bros. content to Samsung, Panasonic and other HDR10+ capable 4K HDR TVs. "Warner Bros. has always strived to provide the best next gen home entertainment experience to consumers," said Jim Wuthrich, President of the Americas and Global Strategy, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. "With HDR10+ dynamic metadata, WB can continue to more accurately bring the filmmakers' vision of our 2018 releases and our vast catalog of over seventy-five 4K HDR titles to the home across a broad range of HDR10+ capable TV's."

The new HDR10+ technology optimizes picture quality for next generation displays by using dynamic tone mapping to reflect frame to frame or scene to scene variations in brightness, color saturation, and contrast, which makes for an enhanced viewing experience. HDR10+ technology optimizes the performance of many 4K ultra-high definition TVs, enabling playback on a wide range of next generation TVs bringing user experience much closer to the original creative intent for Hollywood films.

"By bringing together know-how and technology from the three founding companies, HDR10+ has the potential to deliver considerable picture quality benefits to both viewers and creators alike," said Toshiharu Tsutsui, Director of Panasonic's TV Business Division. "Accordingly, Panasonic anticipates wide support for HDR10+."

"Samsung is committed to technological innovation across our TVs and HDR10+ represents an evolution in display quality for the best possible viewing experience," said Jongsuk Chu, Senior Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "We have also designed the HDR10+ platform to encourage future development in order to deliver further enhanced technology in the years to come."

20th Century Fox, Panasonic and Samsung will show technical demonstrations of HDR10+ technology at CES 2018. Accredited journalists or parties interested in the licensee program may email [email protected] for more information. Accredited journalists can see Panasonic's HDR10+ technical demo at its suite at the MGM Grand Conference Centre. A HDR10+ technology demo will be held at Samsung's First Look event at Enclave Las Vegas on 7th January.

To learn more about the HDR10+ license program, please contact the HDR10+ license administration office at [email protected].

About Warner Bros. support (from flatpanelshd: HDR10+ gets a logo, Warner jumps onboard)

Dolby Vision will get some serious competition in 2018 with HDR10+. Amazon has already released content in the format, and in 2018 you can look forward to movies in HDR10+ format from 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros.

20th Century Fox has been onboard ever since the HDR10+ alliance was formed, whereas Warner has just announced its support today. Throughout 2017, Warner has released movies in Dolby Vision format, the competing dynamic metadata based HDR format, but starting this year it will release movies in both formats.

There are five HDR formats: HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, Technicolor HDR.An informative article on the subject.

Oh fuck that.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't mean to hit and run, but seriously, how many "standards" do there need to be?
HDR10+ will most likely be the standard, because from what I've heard the licensing costs are a fraction of what Dolby is asking and it's easier to implement from a hardware perspective.

I don't know if this means older TVs will be able to upgrade to HDR10+ with a simple firmware upgrade, but it's possible.

HLG is only for broadcast TV.

Technicolor HDR will be on 2018 LG TVs, but I have no idea why. No format currently supports it.

Recognizable feature bullet for the box. "This has technicolor HDR!" And likely a massive discount to use it.

Well whatever happens, I hope these format wars die down over the next couple of years by the time next-gen consoles are on the verge of release. I'll be buying my next TV soon after and it's gonna suck if things are all over the place still.

Picked up Martian EE and BS's Dracula in 4k earlier. Having a beer and picking up a pizza then watching Dracula. There's an app on my tv that shows 10 minute previews of many Sony 4k titles and Drac looked nice. Heard it was a good catalog title anyways.

4k selection at BB was pretty bare. More sold out titles than in stock.

Also watched Billy Lynn in 4k 60fps the other night and that was interesting. Most of the cinematography is static close ups of characters talking directly to the camera (like a first person perspective in a Demme movie) which was jarring at first because it really looked like they were talking to me. Set pieces in Iraq were pretty insane. Decent movie overall. I knew it was pretty small in scope but it's really small. Intimate for lack of a better word. Also that Atmos mix is nuts when it wants to be.

Just finished Batman Begins UHD Blu-ray. It really does look like shit. I am not a knowledgeable person when it comes to DNR, edge sharpening, whatever other words you people use. I thought T2 looked great, despite the word being it is fucked. But even by my standards, Batman looks like a blurry piece of trash. Shockingly bad looking and easily the worst looking disc I have seen so far.

We have watched Prestige and Inception already, and they looked good, if nothing special. So, hopefully Begins is the low point of the set.

I know this is a bit off topic, but I have noticed many people in this thread have the ATV4K. I purchased it and updated the firmware. It's now on TVOS 11.2.1 - and I am having lots of issues with audio sync on my LG OLEDB7P65.
Seems to happen with all sorts of content. Is anyone else having similar issues? I searched the internet and it seems some people had the issues but they were supposed to go away with the latest update. I've set my audio sync on my tv to on and bypass. Any fixes people here have tried with success?

Is that Amazon 3 for $50 deal over? I checked one of those links posted a few posts ago and there are some deals, but it didn't seem like a buy 3 for $50 deal. Putting Pacific Rim, Hunger Games 3, and Fury Road showed up as 75 in my cart.

I was having the exact same problem with Dolby Vision movies, but lately I haven't noticed it so maybe a new update fixed it. I use my airpods with it so I was thinking that might be part of the problem. I'm also on an LG OLED (E6P)

Perhaps you were looking at the old deals? They ran that promotion last year with a bunch of movies but that promotion ended like on the 31st and now there is a new promotion that ends at the end of Feb

According to Blu-Ray.com, the US version of Blade Runner 2049 4K BD doesn't have Dolby Vision. There was preliminary information (based on a photo of the back cover) that the UK disc has DV, but it hasn't been confirmed. It should be noted that in the US the distributor is Warner, while in other territories Sony.

Fuck off. As if HDR wasn't enough of a mess, we have to deal with region-specific HDR support too??

Anyone know where I redeem the UV codes to guarantee I get a UHD copy?

Movies Anywhere will give me HDX most of the time, even with a code from a 4K box

I bought a few UHD movies around black friday and I'm so underwhelmed by them that I doubt I'll bother buying anymore for the foreseeable future.

As usual, I only buy movies (on disc) I really care about.
So that's very few. And most aren't UHD.

EDIT: oh by PQ? Something's off then.

Yeah, I compared the UHDs to the blu rays and the only discernable difference I saw were the blacks. But then again, I don't have a oled tv or anything.

Do you have the proper settings for both player and TV? Is your TV 4K capable with HDR? It also depends on which films you picked up as well. Pacific Rim for example blows the regular blu-ray out of the water.

You don't need an OLED (in fact, their peak brightness is not the best), but you do need a TV with accurate BT.2020 color reproduction and HDR to really appreciate the medium.

Many theaters are still running 2K projectors on big screens, so even on a 80" TV and regular viewing distance the resolution increase is going to be the least discernable increase in fidelity. It's the colors, darker scenes retaining detail, and brighter brights that you'll notice.

I finally broke down and ordered the region free mod chip for my Oppo.

I had ordered the UK disc of Son of Rambow because all reports were the disc was region free. I guess that was true of the initial run, but it's region locked now.
For $90 shipped I get to crack open my deck and plug in a little chip. Do some hokey pokey on the remote when booting it up and presto! Region free Blu-ray player!

Now to finally dive into some other region locked exclusives. The first two on my list are A Very Long Engagement and Open Range.

I would recommend these French movies: Intimate Enemies, MR 73, Crimson Rivers.

What does "or anything" mean? Like, do you have 4K and HDR?

What movies did you get? There are some mediocre releases out there, and some shit, but there are also some absolute stunners. Blade Runner and ET are two of my favorites.

So even though I redeemed Homecoming on the Sony store and Logan on Vudu, when I linked them to my movies anywhere account along with my iTunes,Google, and Ultraviolet accounts. I got the 4k versions for both of them.

I'm still unsure about buying into the 4K UHD hype. Then again, I'm tempted to get Blade Runner 2049 in such a format because that's a film truly worthy of it.

Bit the bullet and ordered my first 4K set - Planet Earth II.

I'm a little nervous that anything afterwards is going to pale in comparison, though. I plan on getting Blade Runner 2049 when it comes out and then maybe take advantage of that 3 for $50 deal on Amazon.

Funny enough, of the ~15 UHD titles I own, the original Blade Runner I believe is the best looking one. The remaster blew me away.
