So I just heard about the server thing and I am now concerned and worried about what all this means below from the OP:

  • Sending/receiving challenges.
  • Access to the rankings.
  • Receiving/posting treasure hints.
  • Receiving/posting/reviewing photo ghosts.
  • Acquiring Dusty Tokens and rewards.
I mean what exactly is lost in terms of the experience from any of this stuff as someone that has yet to launch the game? Just would like some added context if possible to either inspire me to rush through this now or not get too worried as I am in the middle of Divinity OS at the moment...

The bulk of the game will still be available to you after the servers go down; there is essentially no impact to the campaign. All the stuff listed above is essentially asynchronous multiplayer stuff that sits on top of the main game. Treasure hunts are fun little activities where you have to search for a hidden treasure chest in a small area using only a photo taken by another player as a hint. Challenges are essentially the challenge missions scattered throughout the world, but you're competing against other people's results instead of the arbitrary bronze/silver/gold standards in the single-player challenges. Photo ghosts are basically just ghost versions of yourself scattered throughout the world; when you find one, you can see the photo someone took while standing at that spot.

Interacting with all of these gets you Dusty Tokens, which then unlock various alternate costumes and some special talismans. Treasure hunts also unlock various gestures and furniture items you can use to decorate Kat's home after a certain chapter. None of these are required for the campaign and nearly all of them are purely decorative. The talismans are the only items that affect gameplay, and while the 6000-token talisman is great for exploring (unlimited gravity shifting but lower attack damage), you definitely don't need it to complete the game or any of the sidequests.

The people who are farming Dusty tokens are completionists who want all the costumes and items before they're no longer obtainable. If you don't really care, feel free to play Gravity Rush 2 on your own timeline.

Thanks for the detailed response! Some of that sounds cool, and it's a shame I will miss out. Really disappointing, but glad it's optional. Costumes are a bummer though, I'll have to google them to see what they were.

I'd say the only outfit you unlock through dusty tokens that matters is the worker outfit Kat wears in the beginning of the game. Luckily, it's also the cheapest and unlockable after just a few hours in the game. You only have to play the intro, which is pretty straightforward and takes maybe an hour or two. The intro ends with your arrival in the big city and getting the camera to take pictures with. After that it shouldn't take long for four treasure hunts invitations to pop up. Finding all four treasures nets you 320 tokens, which automatically unlocks the outfit.

Yeah I love stasis in this game. Part of it is due to more items on screen, so more items to throw.
That, and Kat stays grounded. That she'd start floating while carrying objects in GR1 annoyed the shit out of me haha. I almost never used it in combat in GR1, but spammed throws constantly in GR2.

Stasis is the strongest thing you have in GR2 if you ask me. Opponents you have to hit twice with a gravity kick? Just throw 2 objects at them and be done with it.

Yeah, stasis was by far my most used technique. That and the warping lunar kick were my go to moves.

Stasis seems pretty OP in this game. I remember it being quite weak in the first one.

I spent hours getting all the online items, but I'm far from a completionist (only one plat on my account and even that was a telltale game that gives it you for just completing all of the episodes). I just don't like having content no longer be accessible :P

Out of all the online content the unlimited potential talisman is definitely worth getting those tokens for imo.

One thing I've heard but cannot confirm is that if you have people on your friends list that also play GR2, treasure hunt photos you send out tend to go to them instead of strangers. Not sure if that's true, but I got a bunch of treasure hunt results come back to me yesterday.

Look up the Dusty Farming 2.0 community on PSN and add a bunch of people, that's a good way to get started. At the very least, you'll start getting a lot more challenges that way. Feel free to add me too, I'll send out some challenges/photos tonight.

Sorry for not replying sooner, thanks but I want to wait and see how it goes would my reply have been... And just this morning BAM!! 3240 dusty tokens ------> 5150 dusty tokens. (lots of incoming challenges won)

This 2B outfit got old real fast. Honestly, nothing beats the OG look, though the Work Clothes comes close.

Best outfit (2B that is), need to be in more games.

Do you guys see Sony potentially releasing a complete edition with all the online content, Raven and white Kat DLC etc. Included, despite the disappointing sales and lack of server support?

I basically never used the standard outfit. Since i started with the outfits from Remastered, I just used those early on and used the new ones as they came. I think may favorites were:

Remastered Spy Outfit
Jazz Singer
Work outfit
2B

And even though the PSO2 Crazy Kitten is, well, crazy I did like the hair. I wish you could've styled Kat's hair independently from her costume.

I've been using the 2B outfit (with mask) the entire time. It's easily the best one.

Is any of the this online stuff that will get locked out tied to trophies or make them easier in any way?

I liked the 2B outfit, but quickly stopped using it due to how... unpractical it was during gravity shifting. I like the two shifter outfits, the military outfit and the worker outfit the best.

I feel like this month so far for me has been farming dusty tokens in GR2 and farming fight money in SFV sp stuff before both these things aren't an option anymore in less than 2 weeks. I was planning on getting everything before really doing the story but I had to do a bunch of missions before I could actually earn furniture from treasure hunts.

With the impending shutting down of the servers, I pushed GR2 to the top of my rotation and I'm loving it - the first game (on Vita) was my GOTY back then, and everything's coming back, the flying/falling mechanic is so much fun, the game looks beautiful, the music is great...I just love spending time in that universe.

6030 Dusty Tokens. Many challenges sent out came back as wins AND todays incoming challenges were mostly 1 hit and timeout, gave me INSANE BOOST, went from 3240 dusty to 6000+ today.

Finished Remastered for the first time, I really regret not picking this up for the Vita, I love the gravity mechanic. I kind of regret rushing through it though, I feel like I missed a lot..

Does the online stuff unlock pretty early in 2? I'd prefer not to rush through this one if I can avoid it.

Yeah I think episode 4 or 5. You get the most out of it at around episode 14 and onwards, though.

All the outfits other than the original are either boring or fugly, tbh. Don't understand why people go nuts over them. :P

I went down the Plat rabbit hole, two trophies left: the 60k gems and max upgrades. I finished everything with around 50k and it seems the 10k to reach 60k is just the beginning, all the upgrades require a ton more. Did I miss something or do I really have to grind my ass off?

The Black outfit looks great, but we've seen it throughout all of GR1. Gets kind of meh in GR2.

I would like an outfit to make Kat's hair black. I don't really like the "Dark Angel" one (or whatever it's called).

I like the white outfit. I wish it was released as DLC at some point after the release of the game. I wouldn't even mind paying a small fee for it.

I think white outfits in general often work well with characters with dark(er) skin complexions.

Everyone hating on 2B costume. It was my most used costume in the game.
Although I have to admit that it looked like I was looking up her skirt whenever I looked up. And the camera angle when flying was similar...

So treasures are the only way to get furniture and gestures and stuff right? Servers shutting down are gonna make getting them impossible. That's not fair.

I wish they had given her shorts to wear underneath the 2B costume.

Maybe you could still get them from random treasure chests. These are lot harder to find than the ones from actual treasure hunts, though, so it's still not an ideal situation.
