Loved the entire show beginning to end, even the crazy stunt they pulled at the end.

I wouldn't read a single thing in this thread. I wouldn't have even posted this thread. Come back once you're finished! There is going to be a bunch of people ruining things whether they mean to or not and messing with expectations. Just watch, enjoy, and let us know when finished.

Also, BSG is one of my favorite shows ever.

Not a spoiler but season 3 will be a bit of a slog, but worth going through to get to the end. It's a great show and glad you're enjoying it so far... Season 1 and 2 is god-tier storytelling.

I need to give this a rewatch at some point. I really enjoyed it.

I think the ending to season one is one of my favourite moments in any TV show.

Watch the first 2 season and then switch over to the Expanse. That will keep a smile on your face, trust me.

As stated, enjoy the ride through S3...then well don't expect much out of S4 sadly.

I'm very conflicted on BSG. It's been a long time since I saw it and I never finished it. I dropped it somewhere around S3. I love some of the characters, probably more for how daring and how interesting the performances are than their actual development within the story. Starbuck is a fantastic take on a type, Dr. Gaius and Tricia Helfer are phenomenal; their relationship on screen so unique and awkward. (Apollo was the worst of the worst). But I just couldn't care about anything that happened in the show. The rest of the cast is decent to bland. And the bland is sooooo bland that I just wanted some scenes to end and some characters to die. I wanted it to grab me but it just didn't, and I don't say that as an indictment on the series, more like I wasn't getting anything out of it even though I tried.

Maybe one day.

It gets a little weird at the ending, and people might really dislike the show for getting the way it went weird, or least in a different kind of weird that they were expecting.

But it's good till the end, if only to hear all the wonderful Bear McCreary Music. The ending has some of his highest points in the series.

I actually started rewatching the series. I'm still amazed how well written the show is for 20 episodes a season

yeah it's a cool show. the 33 minutes episode (or whatever it was) is pretty amazing.

i hated how it had built in spoiler shots in the opening credits though. i always knew to look away when the crazy drum part played.

I'm also in the middle of watching the show. I like it however there is just something missing that could elevate from really good to GOAT. I'm a few episodes into season 3 right after that weird mini episode arc that sounded cool in concept however the execution was so dull.

EDIT: I realized what I'm missing. The whole secret cylon subplot is so underused. I keep expecting the cylon reveals to be a big cast member but they're always some stupid character we barely know. I want a big major character to be a cylon!

My favorite TV show of all time.

Also, when I was in high school, me and a friend slept over at another friend's house in the living room. I put on the miniseries. Turns out my friend had given up masturbation for lent and asked me to leave so he could jack off to the sex scene. I went to the attached kitchen and, out of nervousness, started cracking jokes. My friend in the other room, presumably while he was jacking off, started laughing -- and then insisting that I stop talking. I did not.

Weird times.

Season 2 around halfway through absolutely goes into overdrive. Some of the most exciting and well paced tv ever with a riveting overarching story. The dynamic of the show completely changes and shit gets REAL. You're in for a hell of a ride. After the season 2 finale, I felt the show never quite reached those heights again, even if the remaining episodes are still extremely high quality. Battlestar galactica was a victim of the same writers strike that crippled a lot of shows narratively but it still managed to be entertaining all the way through. Don't forget to watch 'razor' the movie that fits narratively during season 2. I can't remember when you're supposed to watch it but I've seen it a couple of times and I consider it essential to the series.

The caprica spinoff was also excellent and tragically cancelled before it even hit its stride

It's incredible for the first two seasons. The final two seasons are trash save for the finales which are fantastic.

Just go in with low expectations and you won't get hurt as much.

The ending is divisive but I binged the show and loved it the whole way through. There was a heart wrenching hole in my gut when it ended and I knew I wouldn't see the characters again, especially Starbuck. Starbuck is love.

I liked the ending. I don't get the hate for it (though it does have some plotholes maybe with characters who turn out to be Cylons who evidently weren't planned as Cylons).

It's also a very consistent series imo. There aren't really bad seasons iirc (been 10 years since I saw it), though there is filler. Would've been better if they had the 10 or 13 episode structure of modern series

I didn't know what to watch and this was on Amazon prime.. man this show is so fucking good. I'm so in love with Starbuck, shit. can't believe I never watched this.

my life rn halfway through season 1

so does it stay good? I'm looking forward to this. the cinematography in particular is really fantastic, and almost every character has a good performance behind it. you never really know who to trust. there's a whole cylon witch-hunt going on right now in addition to a cylon-controlled caprica story going on for the survivor pilot.

I never watched the classic show or knew anything about the franchise but shit Edward James Olmos is reason enough to watch this so far, script and world-building aside. omg they're doing a tribunal right now to figure out who's a cylon. gotta go, post your thoughts.

it's incredible until the very end imho. Though, it's not as bad as some think

God this show started off so well, and they just shoved it violently down a metaphorical toilet in the last two seasons where I just stopped caring about anything that was happening. Similar to Lost, the characters will keep you watching to the end, and strangely, similar to Lost the problem is that the writers essentially shifted genre towards the end of the show. Won't go into spoilers, but I would say to anyone watching the show for the first time: prepare for a tonal shift in the show and keep your expectations in check.

It didn't end up a dumpster fire like Dexter or Sons of Anarchy at least...

don't watch the last season

this is not hyperbole or dumb fanboyism

DO NOT WATCH THE LAST SEASON
I'm going to second this. The show as a whole is absolutely great, but the ending is so horrifyingly awful that it actually lowers my opinion of the show as a whole. We're talking prequel trilogy levels of awful.

Honestly the entire show just steadily falls off a cliff starting at the F5 plot and just keeps nosediving until it's almost pure trash by the end of the final season. There's few things in tv history as utterly disappointing than what happened to this tv show. Just man, what a fucking waste.

Season 2 is so good and the start of Season 3 was so sick but the ending was really disappointing. There was no closure basically. I still really enjoyed it but man it could have been the best of all time. The battle music still gets me hyped up.

It does become clear at some point that they hadn't really plotted out their whole story bible very well from early on... which they needed to do with that tagline, and I was certainly expecting.

IIRC that was not their idea, the tagline and everything was essentially put on there for them
Personally I liked the ending, but I predicted the main twist in S1...

I loved BSG, and consider it one of the greatest shows of all time. (Along with Babylon 5 and Deep Space 9, the holy sci-fi trinity)

33 might be the best pilot ever made.

The first season is probably one of the best series ever. The first episode after the pilot is GOAT.

Sadly it slowly goes downhill after the first season (though the later seasons have their moments).

I recently finished watching both seasons of The Expanse on Netflix. Is this show at least as good? Because I definitely need me more of that shit.

And most importantly, is it honestly watchable today? I admit I've gotten a little too used to the production values of recent years.

It looks better than most. Plus 2004 wasn't that long ago.

I'm on the fourth season. It has some good moments but overall I'm pretty ambivalent about it. I feel some characters arcs tend to go on longer than they need to. Also, it feels as though they are making some of this stuff up as they go along (ala Lost).

I can still appreciate why it was (is?) so popular.

I'd say there's a natural ending point half way through the last season. Stop there.

The finale was utter trash.

It certainly drops in quality in the end, but I say it is worth watching everything. Those first two seasons are so fucking good.

Season 1 is very good. Season 2 is also pretty solid. The show falls apart in Season 3 big time, and it fails to recover in Season 4.

LOVED this show and the ending season or so isn't that bad, has enough great moments splatted throughout to make it worth watching. The show doesn't dip in quality as much as people are making out.

The only thing I think I wish was done differently was just more of the same stuff from season 1 or so, being chased through space by the cylons. They really could have done a lot of cool things with that before it would have gotten boring but it feels like it takes a different focus not all that long into it. It's all great but yeah there could have been more cool stuff, more like a Trek odyssey with lots of different scenarios playing out but we don't get as much as we could have. The action moments in this are just fantastic and absolutely epic at times. Done incredibly well considering when it was done and the budget.

I'm so grateful this got made.

"So far" sweet summer child.

First two seasons are fantastic, but it starts going down hill from there and the last season is just... ugh. Hope you like religious... text. Isn't even subtext anymore, it's full on in your face angels are literally real shit. And the ending is just mind boggling stupid.

You could just stop at the end of season two. It's bleak but it works as an ending well enough.
