So, after 10^100 attempts I finally managed to beat Dumb and Dumber. The reward is... wow.
I had to look up Havel's ring and that is certainly a must have for my heavy armor build.

What would be recommended levels in vit, end, and strength? I am thinking of going to 40 in each.

It's a fine idea. Diminishing returns begin to appear at 40 for vitality, but sharp diminishing returns appear at 50, so you could go to 50 if you want to. Or not, if you feel you don't need the extra HP.

You stop getting stamina from Endurance at 40 so it's a good place to stop, although if you plan on wearing some of the heavier armor, you could really bump up that stat to the point of fast rolling. It could be quite the investment depending on what weapon and armor you're using. To put it into perspective, I needed 60 END to fast roll in the black knight set and with the black knight halberd. This was with both the Havel's ring and Ring of Favor and Protection. If you have yourself a good shield, you probably won't be needing to fast roll though.

Strength would depend on which weapon you're using. Some of the good strength weapons require high strength, like 50. But if you're not using those large weapons and are just in it for the scaling, 40 should be a fine place to stop.

Crossposting from the Steam OT:

My Steam Link and Steam Controller arrived today. I knew going in that both of them have mixed reviews from the community, but I got them on sale so it was a risk I was willing to take.

Steam Link: Very easy to set up. I went with a wired connection since pretty much every review said that using WiFi is unreliable at best. Had one small hiccup with the sound not transferring to my TV, but a Google search quickly led me to the solution: changing my PC's default sound playback device from "Speakers" to "Realtek Digital Output (Optical)". After that it worked flawlessly. I played Dark Souls 2 for several hours with no discernible input lag or stuttering. It was fucking awesome.

Steam Controller: Also easy to set up. I knew that there would be a learning curve with this thing - some reviewers said it took them a month or longer to get used to it - since it's so different from other controllers. I also heard it usually takes between 30-60 minutes to set up a control scheme for each game... which may be true if you're really particular, or if you're playing a game that has no community configs. In my case I was up and running in like 2 minutes lol - I just grabbed the top rated Dark Souls 2 config and started playing. I did end up making a few tweaks here and there in the following hours, so overall I'd say it took me maybe 10 minutes total to get the controller configured to my satisfaction. While it will probably take me a little while to get completely comfortable using the Steam Controller, I can't help but feel like the reviewers saying it took over a month to get used to it were exaggerating. I spent most of my time farming Archdrake Pilgrims in Shrine of Amana (they drop Twinkling Titanite). They're pretty tough humanoid enemies (especially when you're in the Company of Champions covenant) so it was good practice. Within 15-20 minutes I was competent enough to win a PvP battle against an invader. Overall I really like the Steam Controller so far. I'm looking forward to getting better with it.

Holly shit, just beat Dragonslayer Armour. What a tough asshole. Left me shaking had to get a drink. Feel really good now :D

Disliked this boss - it seems to be setting up to be a fairly epic duel, playing out on a destroyed bridge with a red sky behind you and then you die to some off-screen projectiles. It always feels a bit cheap in the second phase when you die, whereas the first phase is a good test of your skills.

Getting near the end of my SotFS playthrough and I've started the DLC content, currently in ice castle land. Goddamn Aava kicked my ass, first boss I've ever summoned phantoms for. I finally got her down but it took a bit of luck and I don't know if I could have done it solo. Almost had her down on one of my first attempts but my fucking weapon broke (the durability wear in that fight is absurd) and she mauled me while I bumbled around in my inventory.

I think I'm gonna make a pure INT build. Then a pure Faith build. Anyone know how valid they are in DS3? Switching out Freide's Scythe for Moonlight GS.
Also, thank you Premium Ghoul for your feedback. I'm gonna trim off my DEX and easily hit LV120 for this PvP build.

Seems like Knight is the best option stat wise. Sorcerer gives too many throwaway points to Faith and Luck which I won't be needing.

Going pure caster makes the game either super easy or super hard, depending on the area. Some bosses have high resistance to magic, so if you're a one-trick pony those fights will be a nightmare. Pyromancers and Faith casters have it easier in that regard, since they have access to dark spells in addition to their fire/lightning spells.

Yeah. Even my pure int caster had pyromancies as backup. The damage isn't as optimized as on dedicated pyro builds but it's serviceable enough on a maxed out pyro glove (it did fine in PvP too). I killed Aldrich and Sister Friede with big fireballs, no regrets.

That's okay, I can re-spec into a pure INT build later if I have to invest in Faith. Otherwise I'll just summon backup, don't fancy the thought of fighting Crystal Sage with a pure INT build... Then again, I wonder how Crystal Astora Greatsword would handle it.
Not sure how it fits into the pure INT build, but the poison from the Storyteller's Staff WA is the most powerful poison effect in the game and Crystal Sage (along with a few other bosses) gets rekt pretty hard by it.

I never tried a pure INT build in DS3 because of the talk of it being weak. I loved them in the other Souls games though. Did they ever buff spells or did folks just say fuck it and make it work as-is?

There's a griefer at the Throne of Want summoning phantoms and then immediately using a black separation crystal to send them away. Over and over. This is how this guy has chosen to spend his Sunday. Is there a block function in DS2?

In DS3 if you block someone on Steam they are also blocked in-game, don't know if that works for DS1/2.

So this just happened:

Lorian had a teleportation accident

So we turned him into a pincushion

^ Lol wtf.

DS2 postgame: I think I'm nearing the end of my DS2 run. I was burned out on the single player so I started experimenting with new builds and doing co-op, which was fun for a while, but now I'm burning out on that too. This game just doesn't have the staying power that DS3 has. I spent dozens upon dozens of hours postgame as a phantom in DS3, thanks to the incredible lineup of fun co-op bosses: Pontiff, Dragonslayer Armour, Twin Princes, Champion, Nameless King, SoC. And that's just the vanilla game. The only fun DS2 bosses to co-op are Fume Knight, Sinh (though sadly I rarely get summoned for it), and sometimes Ivory King (can be tedious if the host didn't properly explore the level and only has 1 Loyce Knight). Sir Alonne and Blue Smelter Demon would be fun if it wasn't for the annoying ass runs to their fog doors. The final bosses got old pretty fast. I haven't gone back and placed my summon sign at Velstadt or Looking Glass Knight, because I figured my soul memory would be too high. I'll try tomorrow.

In DS3 if you block someone on Steam they are also blocked in-game, don't know if that works for DS1/2.

Unfortunately nobody shows up in the "recently played with" tab of my friends list, so I couldn't block him.

Not in the friends list, while in-game bring up the Steam overlay (Shift+TAB), view players -> recent games tab, used that to block a few hackers in DSIII and thankfully haven't had any other reason to use it.
That option doesn't show up in Big Picture mode so if you were using that maybe that's why you couldn't find it.

Why does that work the way it works? Valve.

Ah, so that explains it. I've been playing in big picture mode with Steam Link. Lol, thanks Obama Valve.

I played DS3 for a bit this morning. I didn't realize how spoiled I was with the top DS2 community Steam Controller config - it's really good. There is shockingly no equivalent in the DS3 community, and the default config is way inferior, so I'm going to remake it.

Back from vacation so I'm back on my Demon's Souls grind.

Armor Spider wrecked my shit. Once I looked up a strategy, it was pretty easy. Didn't realize how easy it was to block the fireballs with a good shield. I was trying to roll dodge everything. But sadly all my healing items (and my precious sticky white stuff) is gone and I'll probably have to grind a bit to restock. I still have all the soul pickups from 1-1, 1-2, and 2-1, so I'm wondering if I should just use them all to level up before I tackle 4-1 or 3-1. I'm SL14 right now.

I have got to beat this game one day. I normally just use the Purple Flame Shield in this game unless it's too heavy for the combat.

They're the Undead Legion after Artorias the Abysswatcher. Before you start the boss fight, you can see them sparring and constantly resurrecting. I think they're just bloodthirsty warriors. Although one of them has red eyes and that's the one who targets others in the fight. Abyss corruption? That and they're apparently responsible for conquering multiple kingdoms.

I thought it was because they target things tainted with Dark, which is why they fight each other and then turn on you.

Guys, I had no idea what this hollowing thing was until after I took off my helmet and I looked like a ghoul. :( I didn't know Yoel's quest did that to me. I did the 5 level ups from him and now my hollowing level is like 93 and I just got the Fire Keeper Soul. It would cost me 60k souls to heal my hollowing. I kind of want to, but I also want to complete Yuria's quest. Are there any good items I'll miss out on whether I heal my hollowing or not?

Also, what's the next best armor after the starting Knight's set? I'm at the very end of Farron Keep about to fight the Abyss Watchers and I think FashionSoul is concerning me now. I want to look cool but with good enough stats that I won't get one-shotted.

If you heal your hollowness you miss her questline (that involves a new ending). She sells some stuff too, like the ring that lets you look like a normal player and not a ghost when summoned..
If you want to keep the quest and look normal, you can buy an use purging stones from her.

About fashion souls, there's this beauty (wet pants included) in Road of Sacrifices, around the crab area

Be wary you will look like half of the players of Dark Souls III lol

They certainly kill each other because they are corrupted by the Abyss. Remember reading some hints about that..

Wearing armor in 3 doesnt't help, might as well go naked.

In Dark Souls 1 I could wear full Havel and Shield and be pretty unstoppable, in 3 the enemies seem to hit you harder no matter how much defense you have.

Dark Souls 3 offers up many deep questions. Such as "Is it worth wearing pants that are permanently soaked in piss if you still look cool?"

I think it's pretty funny that one of the coolest looking sets in the game was worn by a coward that died pissing himself in fear. Couldn't wear it again after I found out. It's a shame cause I really like the look of the armor (even if it is edgy).

You probably have Dung Pies in your inventory, so what's a little bit of piss compared to that?

I still wear my piss pants proudly!

Defense was patched around Ringed City release, now heavy armor is a little more reasonable. Still not 1 and 2 level of usefulness, but better than release.

There's no reason to go naked unless you're doing a challenge run or want to perv around your char lol

Well it seems they want you to dodge more instead of just tanking it, really wish I had that option because I suck at dodging and rolling.

I want to love the Faraam set in 3 but they messed it up along with the Black Iron set, the collar on the helmet is missing so my character runs around with their neck exposed. Hate that.
Though they made some changes to the Alva set, it still looks good, and I pretty much haven't taken off the Elite Knight set since I got it, still my favorite armor in the entire series.

No reason not to use them really. Also, I would do 4-1 or 5-1 next - partly for loot, partly because Latria is awesome and worth saving!

I've been watching Aegon of Astora's playthrough on YT and he had problems with the Armour Spider too and ended up cheesing it with a bow from the back of the tunnel which I didn't even know was possible. It's a boss I've never had trouble with and the type of Souls boss I enjoy - monsters with visual/audio tells and dodging - he probably would've realised what to do eventually, but I found it interesting how different people have trouble with different bosses.

Bloodborne is everything it's said and much more! The speed and dodging is so wonderful once you start understanding its timing, really feels like being aggressive is rewarded.
