Hold up Morales?!

Whaaaaat... I actually like that they brought Morales back. It makes things feel real.

I guess we are to the point that I need to rewatch the first 4 seasons or so, though I doubt they do a lot of stuff like this in the future. With Morgan, we got a few pit stops along the way with him, but this came out of no where. Though with Lennie James at least I automatically knew who it was. I honostly didn't remember Morales. But after looking at pictures of the family in season 1, Its coming back. Good call back.

I suppose when they were talking about how much they were in on referencing the first season, they went so far as to bring him back. I doubt Morales will be playing a major role. His appearance will probably be similar to that of Morgan's appearance in season 3. Only he won't be returning because I bet he'll get killed off quick. Preferably by Rick.

I don't find his return as big of a deal as Morgan's when it first happened. Morgan was the first character Rick meets in the new world and had a story arc to him. Morales was basically filler during season 1. Surprised he wasn't killed off then.

Still, funny how he just so happened to end up in D.C. where Rick and the rest of them ended up as well. Then again, perhaps the idea of going to D.C. is not an uncommon one. Survivors look for any sign of government or military at the nation's capital and all.

I can't be the only one who has absolutely no recollection of Morales. That moment meant nothing to me.

Can Ricks group never be of one sound mind? There is always one person who wants to save people, which inevitably is in direct conflict with the rest of the group and ultimately back fires.

At first Morgan, then Carol and now Jesus. Don't they talk this shit out before going to war? The same frustrating situations keep popping up with the storyline that it makes me wonder what the writers are thinking.

How many of us knew the guy who pissed in his pants would turn? Probably all of us. More importantly, they still didn't kill him, which means he'll probably come back to cause damage later on.

Eventually Rick will kill Negan but before that happens we'll get a constant loop of...

Fight > Get Caught > Escape > War Speech > Inner Struggles > Fight > Get Caught....

This entire bullshit "take someone hostage" cliche is soooo played out....why wouldn't that guy just blast Rick as soon as he sees him. So dumb.

If you listen to the preview from the next episode he says Negan said not to kill Rick, or Maggie if they found them unless it was absolutely needed.

Man those gun fights were so awful. Seriously they need a better choreographer for that shit. Also, the guns were at the top floor apparently but it was one of the most barren areas instead of the most heavily guarded?

People were speculating that Morales was the character that was going to crossover between The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. Seems like this kind of confirms that.

First time this show has surprised me in years. Extremely cool reveal there. Morales was awesome in season one.

I have no idea what their are up to. Why couldn't we have had seen the planning session with Maggie, Rick and Ezekiel . So we have some idea of the stakes and potential problems.

The plan to pin them down was a good one and have them turn. But the way it was shot and drawn out was just pointless. As usual. they have a couple of good ideas and never follow through well or they present it poorly.

I wonder when Negan is all gonna be like, "oh ricky boy, I only wanted to let you THINK you had a chance" (Negan lean) ".. you didn't think I would let you win.. did you ?" proceeds to produce a million new soldiers who emerge from nowhere and captures the team.

He then makes them fight to the death against one another Hunger Games style. That would be pretty good actually.

I liked this ep, Morgan had quite the killstreak going, prop almost got the nuke.

That red shirt firefight, where they are hiding in cover 5 metres away from each other and having a prolonged 40 minute exchange of fire... Red shirts gonna red shirt.

No real plot movement outside of Rick getting captured?

Has this show basically just given up defining how long it takes for a corpse to turn into a walker? Having people turn in the middle of a firefight was kinda ridiculous. Though it was kinda satisfying seeing that lady get chomped.

Liked it a lot, much more than the premiere. The shootouts still look a little silly but an improvement for sure. Even the fx came back a little bit, but it still seems to be lacking that punch to it. Also sticking to the "draw cg tiger on an extra rolling around on the ground, but don't show any actual damage inflicted" I see. *shrugs*.

Count me among those that had to google Morales too lol. It was like Rick was talking directly to the viewer. Staying on the train for now!

IIRC it can be minutes to hours from death, I think the CDC episode clarified that. Shane got up really quickly too.

Really poor start to this season after what I thought was an abysmal Season 7. Not gonna lie though, I enjoy watching Morgan and/or Daryl going HAM in just about any scenario. On a side note, when did Jesus go soft? Character motivations change like the wind on this show it seems, or am I forgetting something from the end of season 7?

Agreed, the scenes also reeked of storm trooper accuracy or lack thereof, like it almost looked like a parody. Really off putting to me.

Watching this show kinda feels similar to having a look at what's in the attic: you pretty much know what shit there is, but everytime you look you find even worse shit and wonder what made you keep up with it.

At times this feels more like a fan fiction on YouTube or a college drama... I don't even know.

Agreed. It's just something this show is not good at. The season 7 finale gunfight being the worst offender. So much shooting and so little impact. I find them to be the most boring parts of the episodes.

they forgot about heath but bring back morales ?

Something I've thought about multiple times as well. Did this show just forget entirely about Heath? Is he just going to come back after this whole war randomly and ask "what I miss"? Or is he just missing forever? I don't think we've even heard Tara mention him.

I mean, I don't think anyone cares about his character anyway, but still. It's a story arc left up in the air.

Did anyone here see the Robot Chicken Walking Dead special? I thought it was funny (especially Carol's look at the flowers parody).

It felt like they just dropped the reanimation behind enemy lines tactic to keep the drama up. Like, the Saviors lost their post commander and somehow are making more headway by the end.

Are we also supposed to be taking away from the events that Dwight betrayed the alliance by giving Rick bad info on a non-existent weapons cache and leading him to a place that is housing families?

I thought the season premier was pretty solid but the second episode was a bit weak. Weird for an episode with so much action. Just didn't have much weight. Also no one gives a shit about Morales.

Doesn't feel like this season has actually started yet. The episodes so far feel very much like webisodes. Slightly relevant but not necessary.

It's funny having watched the first 2 eps this season and then remembering what Gimple said in the Talking Dead for S7 Finale, something like "The first 4 episodes will absolutely blow your mind and will be unlike anything you've seen blah blah". I mean I know it's their job to lie to hype up the show but jesus lol, it's not even in the ballpark of mindblowing.

Two things:

1) I started watching The Walking Dead less than a year and a half ago, marathoning it on Netflix. And I had no idea who Morales was.

2) Are we going to talk about the fact that they green screened Rick at the end of the long hallway shot? DID YOU REALLY NOT HAVE A HALLWAY YOU COULD SHOOT IN!?

I actually do remember Morales despite not thinking about him since season 1 and yet, his appearance still means nothing to me.

Was the throwback for Morales necessary? Like did anyone remember or give a shit? I had to google him to find out who he was.

Overall, episode was solid.
