Bonus exp from grinding?

Bonus EXP is what you get from discovering new landmarks, completing sidequests... Things like that, aside from fighting.

If you get enough EXP to level up while in a battle, you level up automatically during the battle. But you can only actually put your Bonus EXP to use at inns. And you end up getting a lot of it.

I never really paid attention to this until it saved me at one section during the final chapter. Managed to clear that entire sequence in one go because of this.

You pretty much earn enough bonus EXP naturally that you're usually within the same range as most of the enemies and bosses, sometimes a few levels under. Like you can basically skip every single random battle and be completely fine. That's what I did and I was only maybe 5-6 levels behind the final boss for example. I didn't have too much trouble there. Bonus EXP basically is your main source of EXP for the most part.

The only parts of the game that were actually kind of challenging for me were
Giga Rosa
and
Malos solo and with Jin in chapter 7
. Everything else was relatively fair - not a cakewalk but not usually hair-tearing either. Having good accessories and pouch items is often the real key.

Main quest wise, nope, the mechanic itself is made if YOU FELL, the main quest is too challenging. as for Post game. there are severals side quest to be undertaken and post game only UM to be tackled.... as long as you dont abuse the "meta" builds

Level isn't a huge deal, knowing how the combat system works is way more important. You could out level a unique mob by 20 levels and still get destroyed if you can't use the system correctly. So long as the mobs you're fighting aren't ~10 levels above you they won't pose much of a challenge (if you can abuse the system properly).

This technically isn't counted as abusing the system; it's arguably your main means of leveling for most of the game (so long as you're not stopping to kill every single mob) and it scales consistently for the most part.

Towards the end however you will start to accumulate an incredible amount of stored exp from the increasing number of side quests, merc quests, landmarks, etc., which does allow you to very easily overlevel the stage of the game that you are at. The game can still challenge you, but the level difference will make some of the later sections more forgiving than it should be.

So I have three overdrive protocols and I want to use one of them to move either Perceval or Finch from Nia to someone else. My questions are A) which of the two is the better blade and B) who should the better blade go to?

A little bit of a bummer because I fight as much as I can.

You're going to get another tank, an avoidance tank, so maybe move Perceval to that character.

Honestly so far my favorite thing about this game (other than the combat) are the Heart-to-Heart's. They do a great job at fleshing out the characters while showing a different side of them. And I love that they have variety. Some are endearing, others are funny and some are even sad.

Just finished. One of my favorite jrpgs in a long while. I only wish the post game was like witcher 3 where i can continue in the world post end game state.

But def a game rpg fans and fans of deep ridiculous combat systems should play.

I think those are the enemies that only appear in the secret area in the lower section. Look in YouTube how to get there.

Doing the post game content now. Dunno if I'll beat all those über-level superbosses, but I think I'll try to get all blades and do their affinity chart (except some of the most infuriating ones, probably, I'm looking at you Vess). Ah and of course do all the side-quests I'll stumble upon.

But I can't see myself replaying the game right now. I 100%ed XenoCross multiple times not just because it was the best game ever (well, it was) but because bar some post-game grinding (which can be heavily alleviated if you know what you're doing during the game progression) the progression system just felt so freakin' smooth.

Yet in Xeno2 it's all a QoL mess. The RNG blade thing is already a messy system (though not necessarily inherently bad, just weirdly implemented) but you have to suffer through long animations which serve no purpose (I doubt they hide significant loading times) to try to get the good stuff, and on top of that pretty much everything revolving around blades is a mess interface-wise. I mean the whole menu system screams "undercooked" but all of these obligations to view their affinity chart to actually progress plus the clicking, plus waiting for the voice over to complete plus the whole blade merc interface wait times AAARRRGH.

It's fucking awful. Plus there is no collectopedia but worst of all (we don't really need a collectopedia here due to how the game is built) THERE IS NO ENENMY INDEX. Like I killed that roaming ape in the Guar Plains ripoff and I'll have to google where the fuck is tombstone is located if I wanna check if he easily drops Legendary Cores. Seriously?

I mean, pretty much everything with regards to menus screams "what the f where they thinking". I mean other than "lacking 6 months of dev time".

Seriously, the game would be so much better without all this crap.

Rant over. HBK out.

Does XenoCross count as single-player? Serious question.

But yeah, the amount of content is absurd (though the amount of padding is also absurd).
I'm 90h into the game and very little of it has been padding. It's honestly one of the best paced +100h games I have ever played. They killed virtually all of the grinding and fluff of XC1 and made all the time you spend with the game worthwhile. Not sure about the post-game yet.

90h Xenoblade 2 felt like 30h Persona 5.

Just got to the first town in the first open area of the game. I got destroyed by a unique monster on the way though, that thing seriously destroyed me in 3/4 attacks, it was only level 13 (I'm level 8) but I guess thats what makes it unique haha.
Really enjoying it so far.

Dunno I feel the menu wait times are infuriating, some of the blade affinity progression systems are time sinks for the sake of time sinking, and there is way too much useless dialogue, not so much in the side quests but in the random banter and how on top of that it has a tendency to "lag" which is extremely annoying.

The blade quests will be annoying to unlock because many of them needs me to have 9800 in trust :/

Check the weather, they only appear on normal weather (basically they don't appear if you see that weird glimmering dust in the air)

Ahhhhh, that would explain a lot.

How does the weather change BTW? Is it chapter dependant, because everytime I go to Mor Ardain now is sand dust wind everywhere. Im pretty sure i also slept and weather was still the same.

You need to quick travel to another area, outside of Mor Ardain in this case, then telephoto back and see if it changed. Is not chapter related seems random.

Honestly the only time the merc mission voice-clips bothered me is Ursula. Normally, I switch up who leads the missions so that I hear different voice-clips for each mission, but Ursula doesn't let you do that.

"We are Ursula's New Groove! And We'll do what we can!"

Try listening to that one-hundred times over.

I just did this and unlocked all Blade's sidequests. It's not fun, but at least I did it in a way that's the least annoying. Just do the pouch item spam while taking the right joycon and keep pressing A while you're doing something else.

I agree - as long as the game is, it is pretty well-paced with few heavy progress gates. Most of any grinding can be channeled into affinity chart progress rather than just leveling up in hopes of hacking away at an enemy's health bar. Even intra-battle progress can be accelerated with the right equipment. Perhaps the Bana subplot could be considered extraneous compared to everything else in the story, but that is a smaller part of the overall story.

Beat the game a few days ago. I think my save file was at roughly 158 hours, with all normal and rare blade quests completed (except Ursula because I pulled her late).

Anyone know the name of the song that plays before the Zeke fights? Not the actual battle theme but the theme that plays during his gag cutscenes. I'm not managing to find it.

Ok will do! Thanks!
I always sensed that when returned to Mor Ardain from other places in this chapter it was always sand storm, but maybe you need to travel inside and outside a lot more to force it.

I need some input for my team composition. I beat the game right before new year and I took a break from it to play mario odyssey and AC Origins. I wanna come back to beat all the super bosses and "complete" the game.

I'm level 76 right now, so I need to know where to level up fast. Should I farm the last boss up to level 80 and then fight some of the high level enemies? where?

Also, my team is:

Rex (with health on crit item equipped)
  • Pyra
  • KOS-MOS\Agate
  • Roc

Nia
  • Dromarch
  • Vess
  • Dhalia

Morag
as tank with evasion accesories.
  • Percival
  • Aegaeon
  • Brighid

I also have all of
poppy's forms
for Tora but I hate the minigame you have to play to improve.

So as you can see, I'm focusing on DPS on Rex, healing on Nia and evasive tanking on
Morag
. I'm looking to maybe swap out vess or dhalia for a different healing blade but I have to find it first.

Would this team + blade setup work for all the end game content? Any particular recomendation or tip?

Games been a blast, just started chapter 7, and I will keep a close eye out for the Poppi 3rd form sidequest from here on out. Also have a really good set of blades. Used all my overdrives to set up the 4th and 5thcharacters. Looking forward to when new game plus drops

That setup is certainly fine; my initial clears of all the superbosses were with a pretty similar setup. The only thing I noticed is that you listed Pyra specifically; in case you aren't, you should almost exclusively be using Mythra.

FINALLY managed to get my last rare blade, which happens to be Kosmos like most people I guess.
Must've gone through like 100 common and rare crystals just to get her.
Seriously, they should've adjusted the rate for the last couple of rares 'cos trying to get them took waaaaaaay too long.
I really hope the new rares in DLC are acquired through side quests.

I'd love to know this too. If this is the song that plays any time there's a "slapstick" sort of situation happening, I am on a quest to make it my ringtone.

Also, are there any benefits to having a level 5 merc rank beyond an expansion to your blade cap?

Pyra's only real advantage is that fire integrates better with other Blade Combos. Light is much tougher, especially given the paucity of Dark Types (none granted by the story and few among the rare blades).

well, Brighid can do that if you use Morag, also if at some point you need Pyra's fire you can change to her mid battle. Still you should use Mythra as Main.

In my case I pulled every dark rare blade, so no problem lol.

I really don't need the leg up most times. One problem with the game's difficulty is it only has three gears: powderpuff, manageably tough, or "Rex Must Die." I pull out Mythra (and the other one) for those, otherwise i just use whoever. I never really set up healing on anyone other than Nia though, so Dromarch has insane Trust compared to everyone else because she's been in almost every battle of consequence.

though i've never been bold enough to try Rex-Zeke-Nia. A different "panic button" squad of mine is Tora-Morag-Nia where you need to make damn sure that aggro stays off Nia.

My dude, it doesn't matter what the special edition box art shows. Nothing about that indicates character alignment and I can tell you that if I came in here with a question about the game before getting

Morag as a party member, especially after you fight her early on...

And if I had ran into your post there, I would have been really pissed off, as I'm sure many others would be too. Many other people are spoiler tagging later game party members, I don't see why you have to keep arguing against it. It's simply common decency.
