So i just reached the point where i am so close to getting 100% that i just have to do it now, i hadn't planned on it but i am so close so fuck it lets to this shit!

Hidden blade having levels is so dumb. If I shank someone in their sleep they should be dead regardless of hp.

And you can still do that, the hidden blade level is kind of pointless mostly, the hidden blade damage scales with your level just like attack and hp, the only thing a upgrade does is let you assassinate level 3 fort captains.

Wow I'm about to get really upset at this game. I won't jump the gun just yet, but I think I'm not going to be able to get the last tomb.

Apparently
the last tomb requires 50 silica, and somehow after 50-55 hours of game play (I just beat the game) I only have 31 silica. I can't remember if I sold any of it but god dammit I might have done that.

Am I going to be unable to get the Old Habits achievement because of this? The last tomb is required for Old Habits - and 50 silica is required for the last tomb.

Blergh - this is unbelievably annoying.

Have you been using animus pulse inside every tomb?

a captain shouldn't be able to survive my assassination attempt just because he happens to be a higher level captain. he's sleeping. :P

On the other hand, the unlimited counter system in previous games was pretty silly, their attempt to "balance" the game so that its not too easy doesn't work in some areas.

Hi Crossing Eden - animus pulse is when you hold Up on the d-pad to scan the environment for lootable objects right? Yes I have been doing that everywhere, including tombs. :)

My fingers are crossed that I didn't accidentally sell any silica... but darn, it's not looking hopeful.

Don't worry there are 100+ silicas in the world make sure you search all the tombs, and there are handy maps on the internet that show where all silicas are, even the sneaky ones hidden away on mountains and in some desserts.

Quick question: is Karnak in the game? I think that geographically it's close enough to the area of the game, but I haven't encountered it yet.

I know the Valley of the Kings is ridiculously far in real world geography (7h drive south of Giza) so that's unlikely, which is a bummer. Maybe DLC?

Ubisoft. Why do you bother with puzzles in this game when the reminder window pops up to solve every SINGLE STEP.
I hate that. Like when early on you
are buried in sand and have to free yourself, I was trying different buttons and different things, completely forgot about the whistle to call the mount, then bam the game tells me to whistle without prompting. Not even "press __ for a hint" or anything. Grrrr

I enjoy the game, but the hand-holding in general is really abysmal. Especially since there's no way to turn it off.

I agree that enemies having power levels makes the game needlessly videogame-y at times, especially regarding the hidden blade. It's a balancing issue, no doubt, but it's still silly.

*you just jumped down a balcony on this guy's back and rammed a knife through this guy's throat but unfortunately for you he is a level 32 so you only do 20% damage*

How many Sync points/Fast Travel points are there?

Senu's perception is at 58/58 but UPlay is telling me that I have only found 98% of them... I've been looking at my map for a while now and can't find anything

About to enter the arena. How much of critical. Path do I have left? TBH getting a little bored cuz the story isn't that interesting. Especially for an "origin(s)" story

No, but the 2nd DLC might include it

I think I did most of the tombs and have 60+ silica, maybe you're missing a few tombs?

I have the platinum on this game and I did most of the tombs the moment I came across them and I have no idea what you guys are talking about with a silica requirement.

Also, I'm surprised people are complaining about the prompts and easy difficulty of this game. This game is like Assassin's Creed for Dummies. I still like Syndicate better.

The second scheduled DLC is supposed to send Bayek to Thebes and the Valley of the Kings. It's scheduled to release in March.

I see. What about Karnak?

Not sure I'll bother with DLC. $50 season pass, nooooope
Thebes included Karnak and Luxor, so they should be included; they're the ones everyone wants to see, so it would be downright crazy for the devs to skip over them. If the DLC packs are big enough, I could see $50 being worth it. I'll pick it up regardless, as I got my copy of Origins as a free bundle with a new CPU. Come to think of it, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine were never $50 between them; that is a bit steep.

Oh, I was hoping Karnak was in the base game. Damn.

Thanks for the info Atomic Playboy and Ahasverus. I'm looking forward to getting the PS4 Pro I just ordered to see the improvements to the game, and I do like how much content there is (though there's still that damn Ubi-filler but it's better than usual generally), but I'll probably pass on the DLC unless it gets massively discounted. Do they ever go on sale? (Ubisoft DLC/season passes, that is)

So I made it to the city of Cyrene and literally every guard that sees me attacks? Is that supposed to happen? Does it ever stop?

For the record, I'm on the main quest mission called
The Final Weighing

I'm about 24 hours in. It's good. It's damn good. It's not as innovative as a game like Watch Dogs 2, but the world Ubi has built carries the game's mechanics much further. I just wish there were more puzzle elements. Even Tomb Raider's tombs required more mental gymnastics than this game. That said, you can easily make your own fun with the tools they've given you. I had fun just flying with Senu for about an hour, discovering some regions I hadn't yet seen and taking her way up in the sky. The draw distance and weather effects in this game are so phenomenal.

I also think the devs really missed a golden opportunity by making the deities the backstory instead of putting them in the fore. The Witcher series thrived by really digging in to European folklore for all its worth, and I feel like Origins generally sidesteps that and instead makes the story a revenge plot played straight. For a game like Mafia III, they pulled off that simplistic framing with writing and voice-acting that was some of the best in the business. Assassin's Creed, meanwhile, seems to still lack a narrative voice. It's half-committed to the role, with the other half haphazardly translating "motherfuckers" for laughs. The game does itself no favors by featuring questlines that are awfully close to those I remember (more vividly) from The Witcher. A big confrontation in a bathhouse? You know it. Helping locals stage a play despite governing intrusions? Mmmhm. With Origins, pretty much everything in the narrative is middle of the road with the exception of the world itself.

But what a world it is. Honestly, where Origins is at its best is in its geographic diversity and its scope. The fact that I can spend an hour plundering tombs in Giza, ride through the desert, hallucinating in the deathly heat, spend an hour just flying as Senu, hop in a boat and sail to Alexandria before taking on a whole nother line of quests completely separate from the main story. It's exceptional, and the fact that the game can be talked about games like Red Dead Redemption and Witcher III without being laughed out of the room speaks to its quality. Good job, Ubi.

I'm still gonna wait to see what all the DLC is before buying it though. I already got burned on the Watch Dogs 2 DLC.

https://assassinscreed.ubisoft.com/...his-month-in-assassins-creed®-origins-January

There's info for what's coming this month starting with the return of Anubis tomorrow to the 16th and Sobek from the 23rd to the 30th. No release date for the first expansion The Hidden Ones which is disappointing. I'm guessing that it will be at month's end. The level cap will increase from 40 to 45. Must admit that small increase kind of tells me that the expansion might be small. Was hoping for 10-15 hours and while that could still happen, it almost seems unlikely due to the small level cap increase.

So I just picked up the game and I am really enjoying it! I have been taking my time (big surprise) but I am wondering is there any reason to keep any weapons outside of the yellows? And even then, which ones? Seems like I should just keep upgrading the same one all the time?

I am a little confused when it comes to the loot collection part.

I'm not that far in, but I'd say no, if you've got a legendary, then there isn't much point in keeping anything less, unless it's got a particularly good modifier.

Upgrading the same weapon can become really expensive. Loot comes at a fast enough rate that you're better off just trading legendary for legendary all the way up. If you dismantle your extra weapons, you'll have plenty of materials to upgrade your gear without having to buy/grind for materials.

It's actually been a pretty painless inventory management system so far.

Okay, now a question. I'm around level 24 now, getting to the end of the upgrade tiers. What are some good skill upgrades near the end?

Besides Aya and Bayek and a few others, the voice acting ain't exactly Naughty Dog quality.

Adrenaline 2: Always start battle with a full adrenaline gauge. A must-have.
Overpower Chain Throw: After an overpower kill, throw your enemy's weapon at another enemy. This combined with Adrenaline 2 gives you two immediate kills at the start of any battle.
Stealth Kill Streak: If you like being stealthy, this will rack you up enormous XP bonuses. You can tack on hundreds of extra XP taking down moderate sized forts without alerting anyone.
Chain Assassination: This is like the overpower chain throw but for assassination kills; allows you to kill two people immediately.
Smoke Screen / Smoke Screen Damage: One of the most OP skills in the game, in that it allows you to fight against people who lose half their health and stop defending, or gives you a chance to run the hell away and hide.
Bow Fury: Get a stealth kill with the bow and get 3 seconds of slow-mo. Works great in conjunction with Enhanced Light Bow for the extra rapid-fire shots.
Enhanced Predator Bow: You probably already have this, but it makes stealth 200% easier as you pick off everyone in a fort with manually controlled headshots. Especially useful when you've unlocked all the upgrades for bow damage so headshots actually kill.

This game is really good, isn't it? I wasn't sure what to think for the first couple of hours, but it really grew on me. I feel like Ubisoft has finally found a core gameplay loop that is fun in and of itself. Up until now, the gameplay was more something I put up with to see the story and explore the interesting historical period/locations, but I actually enjoy engaging with the systems this time around. They finally killed the restrictive structure that had you die/fail missions for not adhering 100% to the linear path they demanded of you. They still have a lot to improve, like making loot feel meaningful and making the combat feel better overall, but I feel like this is a solid foundation for the series to continue.

They definitely took a lot of queues from The Witcher 3 for this game and it shows. I just hit level 40 and finished the main story, but I've really been enjoying the side missions and the stories they have to tell. It obviously helps that Bayek is a compelling character and the period in which the game is set with the Egyptian/Greek/Roman conflict dynamics is really interesting and one I didn't have a lot of knowledge about going into the game.

Definitely one of my favorite games of the year.

There are way, way, way, WAY too many enemy forts where you have to loot treasure and/or kill a captain and/or kill a commander.

They should have limited that to a handful of really big forts.

I love chasing after question marks on the map but I'm disappointed when it's another fort. There are so many of them.

I like animal lairs, tombs, stone circles, relaxing underwater treasure hunts, etc.... would have been nice if they came up with 5 or 6 more activities and sprinkled them across the map to reduce the number of enemy forts.

Aside from that I love this game. Absolutely wonderful, incredible experience.

Been meaning to ask, what's the deal with the 'Picture of the Day' looking like a piece of concept art? I had assumed it was just he the most 'heart-ed' photo of the day and people were using some sort of filter but there was an artist signature on today's.
