There's not going to be a part two, is there? Fuck You Too, ya hacks.

Also Mike springing back to life on Wish Upon. I would say I'm morbidly curious now, but I know better than to watch some terrible, terrible movie. Oh well, off to watch some other terrible movie.
in the redlettermedia post from patreon whoever posted it said the discussion was so long they split it into two so they could release one as they continue editing. But I haven't seen it quite yet to know if they were trolling I guess.

This is my favorite kind of content they do, just bouncing off each other. I also want to see some of these movies now but also want to see more about what they thought of bigger films like Get Out.

Damn, I totally forgot. I wonder what they will have for part 2, or if that tease just ends up being a cruel troll.

I'm like Mike with the Planet of the Apes movies. I know they're quality (perhaps even one of the best trilogies in recent years), but I just don't care enough to watch the whole trilogy. Can't explain why.

I'm in the same boat. For me, it's that nothing about cg monkeys sounds appealing to me. I just cannot take it seriously.

Yeah I enjoy hearing their thoughts when a movie is fresh in my mind. I frequently disagree with them mind you, but I usually see where they're coming from.

Did it last night with the disaster artist.

I completely agreed with them on The Disaster Artist. Not so much on IT. I mean... I had the same issues with IT, but not nearly to the same degree.
I still enjoyed both episodes.

I totally get Mike's reaction but ultimately I think Jay is right, though. Something about War for the Planet of the Apes' presentation makes you buy into it and overlook the fact that, yeah, they are all just talking monkeys. I skipped the second movie in the trilogy and still thought War was surprisingly good.

Gonna check out Mayhem. Steven Yuen needs more roles.

And Wish Upon will need to be my suggestion when me and my friends do a bad movie night.

Yeah I'm like Mike on the apes movies. Saw the first, could not for the life of me want to see the monkeys' plight for freedom.

the new apes trilogy is very good

it's nice to get smart 'blockbuster' type movies like them every now and again

It is on Hulu. I dunno if it was because Jay discussed spoilers but I definitely pi ked up on the hints to the reveal he mentioned but the tonal shift was still a bit jarring. I get what they wete going for though and overall liked it.

Didn't really help that the trailer made it out to be a quirky comedy which is...sorta true

Wish Upon is incredible! I was curious why Ryan Philippe was going through trash, as it turns out, he likes to decorate the house in garbage. the protagonist even tells him to stay away from her room, so she can keep at least one room garbage-free. amazing!

Maybe I over hyped myself on wish upon, but I thought it was nowhere near room levels and I'm kind of shocked that Mike said it.

There were funny bits and I'm glad I watched it but it is no room.

Ingrid goes west was reeeeeeal good though.

it's missing the charm and the accent of a tommy wiseau to be on that level, but the acting in wish upon was basically the same.

I checked Wish Upon on google play for a rental and people are unsurprisingly positive. Someone even recommended it as a "father-children" bonding experience. I guess now I have to see it.

do people like star trek discovery now that its gotten going? i know it got a, we'll called it mixed, reception... at least in my circles.

my parents really like the orville though

im scared to watch this discovery video though

i bet they address all of this in it so im not sure why im even asking

yea that might be it. no insane accent and jumbled messes of awful adr

there were a lot of really good 'wut' moments (more than the room probably, theyre just smaller or seem slightly less absurd with the magical elements introduced) and that was great

It's amazing how it immediately became a "how the Orville is better at retreading Star Trek as an excuse to speak about old Star Trek episodes" episode.

I love Star Trek Mike in contrast to his crusty old self in hitb.

there are beautiful moments like the mean girl having her friends sleep in her room on the floor like dogs, otherwise there won't be anybody witnessing her rotting flesh for the plot to advance. and apparently old dude dying in a bathtub is breaking news on tv hours after the incident. the protagonist asking if they should go to the funeral, in which garbage dad responds: "nah we're not in the will" - BAM! father-daughter bonding! :D

You know, after watching Discovery today, I'm totally game for a show set completely in the Mirror Universe.

The mirror universe is stupid to me, and I think it's evidenced by the fact that I found this season of Black Mirror troubling and that's essentially a contemporary "mirror universe" show.

I really enjoyed the first half season of Star Trek Discovery (it's on Netflix here) but then again I've never actually seen a single episode of any Star Trek series before this. I've seen most of the movies, though.

This seems like a big oversight in the plot of Wish Upon that despite the horror reveal being "your wish will kill someone!", the first wish rots someone's skin off.

Seems like that'd be the first sign I wouldn't fuck with the wish box, not the following death of someone else.

Hack fraud Star Trek "experts" can't even get Trek's first gay kiss right.

A fantastic idea, but it's not happening.
Yep.

It's too bad they hate anime, because I know they'd really like Yamato 2199. The fact that it's getting dubbed right now should make it even accessible. I think it's literally the compromise between Discovery and Orville, with classic science fiction exploration combined with an awesome long form story arc with well developed characters.

Instead, we're left with a show that's doing new things in a dull and uninteresting manner and a show that's just copying all the old things.

What baffles me about their Discovery critiques is that they don't like the serialized nature of it, or the darker tone, but never seem to bring up Deep Space Nine as a comparison, which did both.

Enterprise seasons 3 and 4 were serialized as well.

The TNG formula had gotten completely stale after Voyager and 1 and 2 of Enterprise. Star Trek could never continue just rehashing the same plotlines forever

Mike is fine with it I think. I think Rich is one of the "TNG is the best Trek" people, but even then, DS9 had more hope in it than Discovery. I mean it was going to end by saying that the entire idea was in the head of a Black science fiction writer. lol
