Hmm I don't remember that happening however Tripod mode is more like Kat using Stasis mode, that is, it needs to stay within a certain distance otherwise it closes. If you are quick you might snap a shot before it shuts off but yeah. It is frustrating because there is no warning that you are getting close to the limit or anything like that.
It's not just distance. Even if Kat is in range all the time and I'm adjusting her pose, the camera will automatically close if I don't fiddle with the zoom every few seconds.

This game is so fun. It's been a long time since I've had such a great time just doing.... anything and everything in a game, really. Loving the side quests and the lighthearted (but not dumb) writing. I'm also into how it touches on the themes of inequality, power and greed through the lens of these quirky, cartoony characters - it feels like it has a nice little message without ever trying too hard to moralize or emotionally manipulate.

Bought this on a whim but it's shaping up to be so much better than I expected!

It's a flawed gem, utterly charming as hell though, which includes the gravity powers of course. Admittedly there's some frustrating things in the game such as stealth missions or the camera at certain points in the game, but I dunno, the positives just massively outweigh the negatives for me.

It's very good, much better than GR1, which I already enjoyed with the remaster. They could've scaled back a great deal on the stealth segments though (which weren't fun in the first game, either), and it's a shame the servers will be getting shut down only a year after release.

The aliasing on Kat, especially when she's in gravity mode, really makes me want a PS4 Pro.....

Is this game good? This girl seem to not like it.

At the very least it's "good." Personally I'm loving it, but I bought it with few expectations. It looks and sounds absolutely beautiful, and the core mechanic really just gets me - it's a ton of fun.

Try the demo if you're genuinely curious. If you like the gravity mechanic, you'll like the game. It all hinges on using that to explore, race, fight, sneak around. If you find it to your liking, it's basically just a whole lot of that with a nice variety of locations, characters, and scenarios.

I can see why people have issues with the game, combat is not the best, but it's always been serviceable for me.

And I could see a lot of people just getting tired of some of the side missions.

I'll always defend the side missions.

From a narrative standpoint.

Got the game cuz it was on sale and I know the servers are shutting down in 10 days so I figured I might as well enjoy the online section for a bit,

She's kinda right and yet she's not. If you like the gravity mechanics, you'll love the game. Combat can be a little frustrating and what she showed wasn't even that far off if you don't "get" how you can make things work your way.
Everyone complains about the camera, but I must say that outside of combat I found the camera to be extremely well adjustable. It worked in kind of a logical way, at least it worked the way I expected it to work, which is a huge compliment for a game that throws your orientation around so much.

I definitely got tired of the side missions. I finished all available ones after chapter 9, then I complete chapter 10 and bam, yet another 4 inconsequential side missions pop up. I skipped them and hopped straight into chapter 11. I just want to make some progress at this point.

And progress I got. I start with 11 and an hour later I find myself back in Hekseville and at chapter 14.

Gravity Rush is at its best when it does missions like this, in my opinion. Intense, fast-paced and lots of developments. In comparison, the game moved at a snail's pace between chapter 4 and 10.

So inconsistent pacing is definitely an issue in this game. I'm not a fan of the combat either. It's serviceable, I guess, but the game would've benefitted greatly from a manual lock on system. The targeting is just so bad and the camera doesn't help either.

Speaking of the camera: chapter 12, holy fuck.

Yeah I loved when you got multiple chapters back to back without going back to town. Not only were there too many sidequests, a lot of them were too long as well.

Well, chapter 14 was sadly another example of poor mission design. Just shifting about, interspaced with bits of dialogue that you already know won't lead anywhere. Then that important guy shows up and you get more shifting about, talking to random people and, as the cherry on top, stealth. Blegh.

Now that I got that out of the way I can finally focus on furniture collection. At least I already know every nook and cranny of Hekseville since I played Remastered just a few weeks ago.

Fun thing I just noticed: it seems the clock in Vendecentre is in sync with the PS4's internal clock. I just heard it toll twelve times (it's just past 0:00 where I live).

Oh and you can finally fly freely between each city district. That's definitely an improvement.

Got the tokens and furniture, gestures and photo items.

What's "collectibles" in the statistics? Regular gems in the world? I'm only at 3%...

I think you could fly freely between city districts in the original, it just took longer.

called something like Battle Nurse, and it's pissing me off something crazy. I'm supposed to run along a train track without falling off but cannot for the life of me do that simple task.

I've committed countless atrocities while gaming without batting an eye, but inadvertantly sending innocent people just going about their day careening into the abyss in Gravity Rush games always makes me feel like shit. :-/

People in this game REALLY need to stop getting up dramtically from their seats if they're gonna tell me they don't know the place in the picture -_-
I HATED that!
"Oh, he knows the place?!" Nope, he stood up just to shake his head in front of my face.

Those "take this picture and run around asking people" missions were pretty bad anyway.

Yeah, that was a pain. I didn't find that one hard, but one slip up and you're fucked.

Once you get rocket jumps down and start abusing quick shifts to other styles it becomes one of the most useful ways to traverse the environment.
Yep, the game really gets fun when you're switching styles on the fly and combining all your moves. When I learned that I could chain rocket jumps and even do them off walls, the game really opened up when it came to movement.

I got the Ultimate Explorer talisman yesterday, which is the last unique item you get with treasure hunts. I did the treasure hunts today to be sure and I got nothing out of the 4 chests, so I guess I'm done with that.

Still at episode 14. I only did treasure hunts last week because I had less time to play, and now I get pretty much no time to play at all until the end of January. Glad I managed to get everything before the servers shut down and before I get too busy with other stuff.
I'll get back to the game at the end of January, where I'll have a free week to finish it.

Do the pink crystals regenerate? I'm not sure if I'm getting the same ones or wandered into a completely new neighborhood.

I struggled a lot of with landing timing. Had to repeat that several times.
I struggled with that one too. I think it could have been a bit more generous with that. I was sort of hoping for more platforming segments too.
The little celebration Kat does when she nails it is worth the struggle though!

Yeah, Kat in the nurse outfit, and how excited she is at the end is worth the headache doing it.

Battle Nurse was probably the best sidequest of 2017.

One of my favorites. Loved being an actor. Also I laughed when the director or whatever made a meta joke about me constantly being blocked from being able to use my powers.

Yeah, Kat in the nurse outfit, and how excited she is at the end is worth the headache doing it.

Quite the endearing character.

Hmm, maybe I should play this down the line then, but maybe I should start with the first?

I recommend playing the first.

Is there a guide out there that tells you how far you need to get in the single player mode to get the unlocks and the quickest way to collect everything that will be completely gone once the servers are shut down?

I did Battle Nurse a couple hours ago and fuuuuuck that. The train bit sucked because Kat does not seem designed to move on something so thin, and so it took me forever, and in the second section there were bits where the buildings were so hard to see that I legitimately could not tell where it wanted me to jump from, especially since their heights did not seem to be aligned for easy jumping.

Hmm, maybe I should play this down the line then, but maybe I should start with the first?

The first is worth playing anyway, but more importantly, there's a point in 2 where it suddenly very much expects you to have the played the first game and does not really attempt to catch you up. Even as someone who only played 1 a year and a half back, I had to refresh myself. So you really should play 1 first.

Chaining rocket jumps is hype as fuck. That rolling kickoff that Kat does is awesome. It animates so seamless that I wonder if it was intended.

Rocket jumps off a 90º surface to fall to your destination is a pretty neat parlor trick too. Blew my friend's mind when showed it to him.

What others have said, plus... you can fly.

Like, not with a vehicle or anything. You just fly. Across a whole city. Completely freely. It's great. Worth it for that alone.

Honestly I had more fun flying freely after any shinies I saw or doing irrelevant shit like the photo hunts than playing the missions sometimes... :D

Yeah, just moving around really feels cool.

I was absentmindedly flying/flipping around for a few minutes just now and suddenly remembered that, oh, right, it just feels good to do that sometimes.

I adore the movement in the game for the most part. It isn't flawless but it is certainly unique and a lot of fun. For that alone it is worth checking out. I think a lot can be said about the game besides that though. A flawed gem is an honest way to describe the game but some times do standout to me.

The story, side quests, characters and interactions grew on me a lot. I didn't like it at first but I blame a lot of this to pacing problems. It is just completely different from what other games are doing. Most games will try to keep you interested and push you to progress to find out what happens next but in Gravity Rush 2, particularly the beginning it is really relaxed. It wants you to immerse yourself and the whole game wants you to feel how Kat fits into the world and how the world reacts to her actions, this is something I feel only after finishing the game and some time thinking back on it. Everything about it, from Kat running around on foot showing photos to NPCs to her taking photos or delivering cakes is about how interacting with the world and characterization.

The plot in Gravity Rush 2 and to a point even the first game has a lot of little commentaries on social issues which makes things a lot more interesting. I think the way the cheerfulness of the game contrasts with some of this harshness is done very well. It could have pushed far more but I feel like it is just enough without getting carried away and still leaves the player with something to think about. It is the way the people are just so casual about the injustices around them, how they are ignorant of it or simply fear changes. How some characters fight against the system unknowingly while others might fight for the system unknowingly as well. This isn't a one off plot point, this is an issue deeply rooted into the game and stands strongly in Kat's way. It was really interesting and I enjoyed it a lot for these reasons as well although I have read others simply right off the side quests and story as boring and messy.

Here is an interesting article.

but the more I look back at what Gravity Rush 2 was trying to say, the more I'm impressed at how well it weaved the politics of inequality, class, and immigration into a story about a girl who floats in the sky. Bravo.

I like how the sidequests are actually justified in this game. In most games you think "Why the hell would I do this?" And yet, Kat is actually the type of person that helps virtually everyone, even if it's something she finds to be annoying. She's effectively a superhero too in a sense, so it fits.

Basically every sidequest kind of feels like it could be part of a Saturday morning cartoon.

So it turns out you could fly between districts in GR1. It has to be between adjacent districts, though. I tried flying from Pleajeune to Vendecentre and the game whisked me away around the halfway point. Approaching the pillar too closely is also a no-go, while it's fine in GR2.

I got to say, playing Remastered again makes me appreciate that 60 fps. So smooth. And Kat's shifting speed is much higher as well. Although the comparison isn't really fair because that's endgame Kat, while I still only completed 50% of GR2.
