I know DICE games have a history of questionable matchmaking (team balancing, etc.) but the latest EA rant from Jim Sterling is pretty interesting (and disturbing). I don't think its already been posted elsewhere but:
The intro is about dynamic difficulty but the good stuff starts from around 3:30. Essentially, the EA research paper states that winning too much reduces player engagement and, therefore, increases churn. More churn means less opportunity to spend.
I'm not posting this as an anti-monetisation complaint about SWBF2 specifically (though I hate the idea of lootboxes in general) but I think it gives an idea of how likely EA/DICE is to fix the skill-based matchmaking (pun intended) since they're focused on player retention, not enjoyment. The MTX will return at some point, after all.
Obviously, this is not on a per match basis but trending over play sessions, and the non-existent team balancing/shuffling absolutely should be fixed. But, in EA's own words, their 'metrics of interest' appear to be something other than ensuring two evenly matched teams of players since 'fairness is not optimal'.
