Wait, New Girl is cancelled? Damn. Low ratings or just it's time to go?
Apparently schedule conflicts with the actors and such made another season difficult so it was going to be canceled but, they came up with an idea for the final season. Less episodes and closed the Arcs on the characters so everyone gets the shine.

Isn't the show supposed to be winding down? Or maybe they're just going to have all the new people spinoff and have the two white dudes retire and get fake-gay married.
I dont recall the crew saying that themselves but with Scott Caan already out like half the time and O'Loughlin saying he was out for sure(not to mention DDK and Grace Park already out)
it just seemed like it was a sure thing.

but with the new guys, Chi McBride, Ian Anthony Dale they could probably make it go 1 more season at least.

I can't remember, did Jess and Nick get together last season? That was the only real big thing that I assume they'd want to do.

Maybe this final season can be a series of crossovers with other Fox shows just to piss people off. lol

I'm sure they could keep going. Danny is so replacable that they literally did an episode where they call everyone to help, including the National Guard, and no one bothers calling Danny. lol

It seemed to be a show that's always on fumes, so I took the renewal last year to be a mercy killing.

Huh, I had no idea. I thought the show did really well in ratings

Wait, is it already over?! I need to catch up lol

That killed me lol, didn't even hear him mentioned.

As silly as it sounds if I were to make 1 last season i'd make most of it normal but with the newer cast leading it, however i'd do a final arc thats set about the time of Danny's hallucinations from a while back.
Some case that has a bunch of connections with a past case so retired Danny, McGarrett and Max return with Chin and Kono if they can get them as guests.

I don't know why but I really liked those hallucinations.

I think the problem is that no one could really lead the team. Chi McBride's character is technically the one that's been there the longest, but he's really only been there for like 2 or 3 yars.

Thats true but if they need a stretch for a leader at least he is a veteran cop. They can also maybe bring in Duke(?) a bit more to mentor him in leadership.

I know im stretching it but weirdly the show is one of my favorite shows at times despite definitely not being that.
You can watch intently or you can be doing other stuff and still enjoy it strangely.
and not to mention loving the ridiculous stuff like the flying house and Iron Man suit lol.

I think i'd watch it until McBride completely wants out.

I think Duke is there because it's a nice cameo. I think it'd be hilarious if they tried to transition him to the team though. lol

There's the other thing of why Steve wouldn't be around if the show continues. They'd have to move him to the mainland like they did with the other characters as a way of getting them to disappear but still be "around".

And yeah, this and MacGyver are the perfect combination of low budget and stupid that makes for good dumb tv. It's like watching a B movie every week. lol

Oh no lol definitely not on the team(would be hilarious though) just same position but more interaction, McBride's character doesn't feel comfortable taking over and gets pep talks, stories and such from him now and then.

Agree, I really need to finally try MacGyver.

I think MacGyver knows it's stupid. They had another episode where someone tries to blow up his house and finally one guy asks him, "Dude, why don't you just move?" and he says "hey, it's a rent free house!" lol

They keep teasing his father and I really do hope they have cast Richard Dean Anderson for that role. I doubt it, but it'd be a nice surprise.

For those curious about how Grown-ish did on Freeform, it did very well!

From Deadline:
Grown-ish: Wednesday's premiere drew 1.56M total viewers, including 917k in the demo, to become the cable net's best comedy series launch in 5 1/2 years. The Black-ish spinoff also was the Disney-owned outlet's top overall series start since Shadowhunters two years ago.

Some other numbers from the series premiere: Grown-ish opened as Wednesday's No. 1 scripted series on cable TV among women 18-49, women 18-34 and females 12-34; scored the best digital bow for a Freeform series with 4.5M viewers in the first three days; and was the strongest scripted comedy series launch on basic cable among women 18-49 since April 2014 (MTV's Faking It), among women 18-34 since July 2014 (FX's Married) and among adults 18-49 since September 2016 (FX's Atlanta).

Well deserved for Grown-ish. It's tackling college and growing up in the perfect way for a spinoff of Black-ish.

The Good Doctor had a great returning episode and I couldn't stop smiling. The show has definitely taken a leap in quality since it started.

New Girl will air its final season on Tuesday, April 10. It will consist of 8 episodes. It was a combination of low ratings and that it's been around for (what's going to be) 7 seasons.

to be fair the show got a lot of mileage when it's 'new girl' not only lasted long enough to be old news (bad joke) but she was usually not the shiniest part of the package. I'm 110% for funny women in cute/clever comedies, but hers was a rare case she played a funnier 'straight' character than some baaad attempts with quirky humour.

The show's trump card was either Schmidt or Winston.

I don't know if anyone cares about Australia TV, but a show called the Doctor Blake Mysteries is going through sexual harassment allegations, so the outing of this stuff is spreading around internationally.
Canada's Soulpepper company, which produces Kim's Convenience (since it started off as a play) is going through it right now, but it's not directly impacting the show.

Monday night's ratings. ABC and NBC were all by themselves last night. It helped ABC, not so much NBC:

Is anyone going to make a show premiere dates thread? Or has that already been made and I missed it?

No wonder Gillian Anderson wants to be done with the X-Files after hearing about the fuckery that happened in the new episode.

Glad they are ending BBT – unlike others I enjoy the show but really showing its age and has overstayed its welcome. Same with Modern Family this season has been more miss that hit and showing its age as well. The more they put little Joe in the show the more I want it to end – not sure which is worst at this point Joe or Luke. The Goldbergs is also starting to wear on me, had a good start but way to formulaic, seems ever show by the third act all is great and sappy and plays some 80s music or other 80s reference.

On the flip side – since it hit syndication I've started to watch and really like Brooklyn 99.

For those curious about how Grown-ish did on Freeform, it did very well!

From Deadline:
I watched it, it seemed more mature than the other stuff I've seen on Freeform like Shadowhunters or Switched at Birth, I was most surprised at all the language they had on the show and all the talk about sex and drugs. Have I just never noticed this content or has Freeform always had this? Like I mean I know that this happens on UnREAL (Lifetime owned by Disney) but I've never seen it on Freeform.

It's sad about The Brave. Not picked up for full season, and with ratings like Monday night, they are probably just burning off the rest of the episodes. I really enjoy this show. :(

They explain it better than I can, but basically...
Last season's cliffhanger finale was a dream or a vision or whatever. Mulder isn't William's father, somehow the Smoking Man impregnated Scully with his own DNA using alien magic.... yeah.
That sounds like the sort of rushed final episode writing (of a cancelled show) you'd use to try to explain a cliffhanger of the previous episode because it won't be back. Not a season premiere. Huh.

Referring to the lazy "it was all a dream in the end" writing

You should read up on The Fosters.

What? They just now started production? Fuck. I assumed they already filmed it or were finishing it and that it would premiere in March or April.
Nope, production was pushed back. Not sure if any reason was ever given, like someone's schedule or what. They're aiming for a September return now.

Yeah expect even more months between the season 5 and 4 and hell, let's make it a split season while we are at it. Have to milk this cow until it's sour, after all.

'Chance' Canceled By Hulu After 2 Seasons
Hulu has opted not to order a third season of the Hugh Laurie drama Chance.

Chance was a hot package that, in a very competitive situation, landed at Hulu with two-season 20-episode order, so this was the first time it came up for renewal.

The project, from author Kem Nunn, Room director Lenny Abrahamson, showrunner Alexandra Cunningham and producer Michael London, did not break out and became a victims of Peak TV, getting somewhat lost in the sea of originals on TV.
That last part rings oh so ever true, I forgot it existed.

Showtime Nabs Horror Comedy From Sharon Horgan

In a competitive situation, Showtime has landed Shining Vale, a horror comedy from Divorce creator Sharon Horgan, Trial & Error co-creator Jeff Astrof and Aaron Kaplan's Kapital Entertainment (The Chi). The project, from Warner Bros. TV where Astrof is under an overall deal, has received a pilot production commitment from the network.

Written by Horgan and Astrof, Shining Vale is a horror-comedy about a dysfunctional family that moves from the city to a small town in a house in which terrible atrocities have taken place, but no one seems to notice except for the mother — and the evil spirit that's trying to possess her. It's a show about mental illness, small town politics, religion and a family battling their demons. But in a really funny, and scary way.

Don't know if this has been posted but I guess ABC is replacing The Mayor with this mid-season comedy about a guy starting a podcast in March? It's in The Mayor's timeslot.

I'm just waiting for the LOST reboot that will come.

TV Line said:
ABC president Channing Dungey tells TVLine that she has no current plans to revive mega-phenom Lost. However, she's not ruling it out. "We have not had any official discussions about that," the exec maintains. "It's something that's on a list of, 'Wouldn't that be great if… ," but at this point it's only at that place.'

To be honest, I could see a LOST reboot on FX (once the deal goes through), wouldn't that type of show do really well on there?

Good question. It's a brilliant show and disgustingly sweet at times and I mean that as a compliment. Plus virtually every line out of Samberg's mouth is genius

As much as I love him in it the show shines because it's an ensemble

I'm coming around to the idea that B99 is this decades Frasier. It's an amazing ensemble comedy that relies on the actors so much that if you removed even one member of the regular cast, the whole thing would collapse. I've not seen the most recent two eps, but I'm wondering why there isn't news on an episode 12 onwards. Was it only a partial order? What's going on with it?
