The limited edition doesn't look as good as the ps4/vita one

So if I know absolutely nothing about Ys can I just jump into this? It looks pretty interesting.

That's kinda lame. Switch owners aren't going to get the incredible box that came with the Vita/PS4 version C.E.

YES! Ys is self contained each time with very minor cross overs.

The only entries that have any sort of meaningful sequence is Ys: Origin --> Ys I --> Ys II

but even then it's not mandatory.

Woah, this came outta left field, so if this sells well on switch, Falcom jumps aboard, is Gust and 5pb the only Japanese publishers left on Vita?? Man, Switch will become the exclusive portable niche JRPG and visual novel machine soon.

Switch is getting the new Atelier you know.

Edit: Also, isn't nights of azure 2 on the switch?

Well if that's the case I'll definitely consider picking it up when it drops. Thanks for the info.

Adol Christin is a red haired adventurer who likes to travel and ends up involved in mythical battles against demons, gods, and other world ending threats.

His buddy, Dogi, also travels with him.

You're good to just jump in now.

Oh my bad, sorry guys, I'm really behind on my news. Yeah your right, that Gust is on Vita, 5pb is close behind or soon. I loved the Vita and glad all those visual novels will be portable on switch soon enough.

Edit: what games did 5pb release on Switch??

Sorry for hijacking the YSVIII thread. Already bought the LRG special edition, will double dip for Switch.

Tempered expectations, but good for NIS.

Falls in line with NIS wanting more games on switch and Falcom is okay with licensing Ys VIII at least.

Weren't every single Falcom game on Nintendo consoles actually made by another company? IIRC they've never actually made any of them. What's with Falcom's hate of Nintendo anyway?
Dragon Slayer IV (FC), Popful Mail (SFC) and Ys V (SFC) were all developed inhouse. Everything else was outsourced except maybe Ys V Expert.

It's a better track record than they had with Sega (no inhouse games) or NEC consoles (2 inhouse games, Legend of Xanadu 1-2 on PCE SCD2) going back.

Best news of the Direct IMO, and I really hope it becomes a regular thing for Falcom stuff to make its way over.

I do wonder if the rumored PS4 Trails 1+2 ports / remasters will come to Switch as well. It'd be a good way of putting 3 and 4 on the system as well and make sure there's still a portable option for those who'd want to play portably (since 3 isn't on Vita and 4 won't be either presumably). Reason for 1+2 on Switch would be so new players can jump in too without missing out on the previous parts of the story).

Is this coming to Europe as well? I've never played these series before but I knew about it, sounds like a good opportunity to get into it

Is this a full content port of the PS4 version or is it missing content like the Vita version? I only have the game on Vita but I will grab this in a heartbeat if it looks like this is going to be the better version.

Hm, I dunno... that sounds like a pretty complicated backstory. I'm having second thoughts.

How's the difficulty in this game? Compared to, say, mainline FFs?

I know this sounds bad, but I don't want something really hard lol.

BTW the JP release will be published by NIS as well. So yeah, not only is this a 100% NIS-done game, but it also continues Falcom's refusal to publish ANYTTHING themselves on Nintendo systems.

For reference:

Gurumin 3D on 3DS was published by Mastiff in NA and EU and by Flyhigh Works in Japan.
Ys Books 1 and 2 DS were published in NA by Atlus and by Hudson Soft in Japan.
Ys Strategy on DS was published by Rising Star in EU and by Marvelous in Japan.

Yep.

Oh man, I was thinking of going PC, but now that it'll be hybrid on Switch, I'm gonna wait...

Man, even with this news people are still finding a way to spin the "Falcom hates Nintendo" narrative cause they're not publishing it themselves.

This has probably been asked a lot already, but is it okay to jump into this as your first Ys game? If not i'll have to wait until I play the previous games.
