On a side note I remember some people were buying up Wii U games thinking they would become highly valuable. All of these ports kind of tank that. I am a bit surprised they have all these ports but haven't mentioned NSMBU and the one with Luigi.

As far as games that could actually use a port with quality of life improvements, I wouldn't mind if they ported Xenoblade Chronicles X and made the character models look decent. With better loading times, better looking characters, and some touched up graphics that game could be amazing.

Given the low sales of Wii U that limited the reach of some of this games, is not hard to see why they'll want to give this games more potential to sell. Is four ports of high rated games that fill in the start of the year (Which is usually slow). They just came out from the strongest year in game release they had, can't have every year be the same. Best to have those new games and IP in the later half which is usually a more busy season (starting around summer) and release games that for most Switch owners will be new experience.

I do hope they have one or two newer games beside Mario Tennis (which looks nice and story mode sold me on it!) but at least they'll be release during this months between this ports and indie games!

I don't think the Switch could be considered too port heavy as of now. Nintendo is killing it with their new releases and I don't think the Switch having ports diminishes their achievements. In fact, there are plenty of games I still want to see ported over. I think a lot of the big games on Wii U could benefit from a Switch port due to it's better specs and portability and I think we'll keep seeing last and current gen ports specifically because of the latter. These ports along with the great indie games on the eshop fill in the gaps between Nintendo's big first party releases which is great. Not a problem for me.

I don't think so. Unless these ports are taking away from new games, which I don't think is the case, it's welcome. In particular, I see Switch ports as slightly higher value than a normal port just due to the added portability of the system.

Donkey Kong and Bayonetta 2 deserve to live outside of the Wii U. I can see wanting more but I like that one of Nintendo's best 1st party lineups will continue on.

Look, I have nothing against ports, and its great these games are coming. But thing is, the Switch is a unique beast. It's got a lot of unique and innovative features compared to its contemporaries like Joy-Con sharing, HD Rumble, and the IR Camera. It's Nvidia Tegra X1 was chosen to make the Switch as fast, cheap, and easy to develop for as possible. Developers have so much potential at their disposal for building exclusive titles and new ideas. But if all that gets ignored in favor of ports, then I feel the Switch will be able to reach its full potential. The Switch is more than just a portable home console, its a middle class the industry desperately needed, one where developers can make great games for relatively low cost, and experiment with titles that wouldn't see the light of day on most other platforms.

That being said, we're still early in 2018, so perhaps I'm overreacting. Still, I think we should be concerned about the Switch being dominated by too many ports as it could potentially divert attention away from what the console can really be when in the right hands.

No way man, it needs more ports. There are a lot of ports on all the consoles and there is nothing wrong with it.

Early years will have more ports and remasters. No need to overreact, it has even been a year since the Switch was released. Chill.

Besides, all I have heard from Switch owners is that every game should be on the Switch. That is five more down today, a lot more to go.

No, it's a good thing when titles become playable on multiple platforms. It especially makes sense for the Switch, which had an underwhelming predecessor, and offers the capability of games becoming portable.

I had a ton of WiiU games and there were still a bunch I never ended up even playing because I couldn't be bothered to turn on the system. I'm perfectly fine with the ports, and I'm glad they're getting a second chance.

I stopped using my Wii U a long time ago, have no desire to turn it on now, and would much rather play the exclusives I didn't buy on the Switch. I'm all for it, especially since that specific well will eventually run dry, meaning that other games will come. It's not like there's a shortage of Eshop indies coming out alongside these ports.

Ports and remasters are super fine, the problem is when there's an excessive disproportion between them and the actual brand new games coming up.

I much prefer the Switch hardware-wise, so I want all the possible ports and more. My only problem with how it's done is that every port so far is a full-priced game. Which I guess isn't that unusual, but I'd expect some to be $30-40 instead. At least they give new content normally in exchange

I feel fine about it, but I can see how people would feel prickly or cynical about it. It is petty funny how numerous the ports are. But hey, the more games the better, right? As long as they're good?

I'd like to see more budget pricing, though. Don't make me pay full price for a port (or even a remaster) unless it has a lot of new features / content.

Port all of the Wii U games. ALL OF THEM. Hyperbole aside, there are way too many excellent games on the Wii U wasting away. I want them to have fresh life on the Switch. Xenoblade X first and foremost.

I think the problem is they mostly look like straight ports. Going from PS3 to PS4, many ports were going from 720p 30fps to 1080p 60fps with some improvements to textures and AF.

They need to port a lot of 3DS games over, I am baffled as to why this isn't a thing already.

Also, yeah, port all the WiiU games over, but don't be a dick about it and charge 60 Bucks for them.

When you think about it the only triple A games that are not ports that nintendo has released for the switch are Mario, arms, splatoon 2 and xenoblade 2.
So they released four great first party exclusives in the first nine months, in addition to BotW releasing same day as on WiiU. That's really not a poor slate for a console's first year.

Portable systems are always home to ports, it's a healthy pillar of the platform.

Let's look at Donkey Kong Country

Game Boy Color: Donkey Kong Country
GBA: Donkey Kong Country
GBA: Donkey Kong Country 2
GBA: Donkey Kong Country 3
3DS: Donkey Kong Country Returns
Switch: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Nothing has changed. Switch will continue to get ports of old critically acclaimed games and a lot of them will find new life. Just like they always have on portable systems.

I want more ports to be honest. The Wii U had some great stuff, but the amount of people who actually had one was a crime. These games deserve the exposure.

If you mean first party Wii U ports, then okay I can see where you might be frustrated. Making the system easy to develop for and popular is their best way forward though. Without third party software Nintendo will never get out of their own bubble.

Nah. Wii U didn't sell. Port all those games and get them out to people because they deserve to be played. Software doesn't always move hardware, and games like Donkey Kong and Hyrule Warriors, that don't have that kind of pull, shouldn't be punished for that. I draw the line at Smash, though. Make a new one, in that instance.

Is this really going to be the reply that everyone offers to people who don't like the fact that they're porting all these games?

Duh, I don't HAVE to buy them, and I wouldn't, but I have kids. If their friends all own switches, what am I going to tell my son? Play MK8 on the Wii U because we own it already?

My other child is a Zelda fan and doesn't know Hyrule Warriors Deluxe exists yet. They're going to be asking for this stuff for their birthdays for Christmas.

Should I just repackage the Wii U versions and tell them to deal with it?

So get it for their birthday, instead of whatever else you were planning to. You seem bewildered by all of this, it's strange.

I had a Wii U and supported it a lot, and now I'm doing the same with the Switch. I don't mind the ports at all, because if I decide I want to double dip I can, but if not it's not like I HAVE to.

why its bad?
didnt you enjoy those games?
How that affects you just because more people are getting the chance to enjoy them too?

It doesn't!

We got definitive remasters of games on better hardware 2 years later. I wish I skipped the Wii U, no one really saw this coming.

Overall, its great that more people will play these games.

People said the same thing about the PS4 and Bone back in 2014. I don't mind because I haven't had the chance to play most of these games. The new games will come, just wait patiently.

I'm ambivalent, I've had all kinds of reactions.

Zelda: Same thing happened with TP, I was livid back then, now I just expected it, I feel I did the right thing with both, TP for Gamecube, BotW for Switch.

Bayonetta: Port it to every device possible, as a PC/Nintendo guy I missed it when it came first for the xbox and that angers me, these games deserves skyrim/doom levels of porting and acknowledgment.

Mario Kart: F you nintendo for killing my wallet, then again, I can bring Mario Kart with me everywhere, its been a delight in every meetup and party I've been to.

Tropical Freeze: I am not double dipping, make a new one Nintendo.

Dark Souls: I have it on Steam and I have never even touched it, again I doubt I'll double dip.

Hyrule Warriors: I'm so happy I didn't bite the bullet and bought them for wii u/3ds, day one depending on price.

Portability is a huge plus for sure, but this only really shines for multiplayer like with Mario Kart at the end of the day.

I have no problem with it. Consider how may people didn't buy a Wii U and it becomes obvious why this is necessary. There were a lot of great games on the Wii U and I am glad to see that people will finally get to play them on the Switch.

No, i don´t think so. The criticism was stupid back in 2013/14 for the PS4 and it is stupid now. There can never be enough ports on a hardware and they don´t take anything away from new games anyway.

Not at all. You gotta keep in mind the Wii U had some good to great games that were hindered by the tiny install base of the Wii U and deserve to be played by a larger audience.

The third party ports and remasters are likely serving the dual purpose of familiarizing themselves with Nintendo architecture and selling to the Nintendo audience that hasn't played these games.

Or there's the whole "take our game on the go for the first time" gimmick.

Because they are tougher to translate as virtually the entire two-screen interface on different dimensions needs to be reworked in addition to the lower-quality assets? WiiU ports are already designed with TV and off-TV play in mind and higher quality assets, no wonder they were prioritised for the Switch ports.

Port everything from the Wii U. Nintendo had some of their best output there and those games deserve a bigger audience. Port Xenoblade X, Mario 3D World, Yoshi Woolly World, Captain Toad, Pikmin 3... Bring all of it to the Switch. I'll even rebuy most of it myself.

No. Do you remember the PS4? It had way more ports in its first few years. It's why I held off on buying one at launch. The PS4 is still getting tons of ports. As long as new games continue to come to the Switch (as they are currently) I have no issue at all with its release schedule.

I have kid too. She does not have her own Switch... yet, but if she asked for say Hyrule Warriors for her birthday, yeah, here I'd get it for her. I would tell her I already have it and she can play mine, but if she wants her own copy, than alright, it's her present. I think she can just play my copy, but hey, if she wants to use her birthday cash or present on a game I own, that is on her. It really is.

So when people say you have to rebuy them, it is the truth. But in this case you're not talking about yourself but someone else. That is very different.
