Just got Zeke. Time to see what rare blades I can get on him.

I have 54 common cores, 29 rare cores, and 1 legendary core. Wish me luck.

What should I do with all my core crystals? When should I open them? Do I even need them?

Definitely keep them. And feel free to use them, you never know, you might get a really cool rare blade.

Even less powerful blades come in handy later on. Don't make the same mistake I did early doors by selling a bunch of them! lol

Huh, no nuance in the EU translation for Poppi, just Poppi Alpha, Poppi Beta, and Poppi Gamma.

Edit: keeping Common Crystals around even when you have a good team of commons for Merc missions is important because sometimes you absolutely need to roll something for a skill check, and so can start burning common cores (and burning commons to get a fire-mastery type was how i lucked into Ursula).

Hey so I just bought a new TV (it's 4K) and this game is sort of a blurry mess now. I tried a few others including Mario, Zelda, and Splatoon, but it looks worse than when docked on my old TV. Any help?

The game already ran at sub-native resolution. Now the TV is having to scale it even more and just isn't doing a great job of it. About the only thing you might be able to do is get an external scaler but that's probably expensive and still won't make it look great. Basically the Wii on HDTV situation.

Stuff like this is why I'm glad I am still on a pretty good plasma. Handles sub-native res a lot better than LCD.

It's been a while, but maybe the spiders in the cave near Varnax's Plunge? There's also the dinosaur in Gormott, somewhere around the centre. I *think* it's weaker than the dinos in Temperantia, but I'm not 100% sure.

I think I just did a bunch of sidquests until I was mid 80s, then I fought dinosaurs. From memory, they weren't that hard if I kept near the sides.

There's a bonus area in every stage of Tiger Tiger? It's a bit too late discovering this stuff lol

Sadly, that's the way it is. It's running at 1280 x 720 when docked. Scaling that to 3840 x 2160 is a tough ask.

It looks bad on my 4K OLED close up, but it does look fine if I'm sitting away from the screen.

Still in Ch. 1.

These diving/salvaging cut scenes are excellent. I wasn't expecting something so subdued and atmospheric in a bombastic anime JRPG.

Music is really good and I'm enjoying the battle system so far. The writing can be a bit on the shallow and expository side, but I think that's to be expected with the genre.

Enjoying it!

Do I remember hearing something about a January patch with some QoL improvements or something? Did that already happen? Am I imagining things?

Worth overdriving Finch to No.4 if they already have Perceval? Agility boost (and to a lesser extent, a better base block percentage) being the main reason I'm mulling it over.

Mythra is outright better than Pyra, gameplay-wise. There's no contest. The gulf between them isn't that big early on but by the end of the game it's pretty massive.

All the drivers have plenty of capacity to be good at what they do. I dumped Tora at the first opportunity and never regretted it.
Roger. Just trying to maximize my time. I might still stick with Tora for a while.

The value of moving a blade is always going to depend on what your situation with other characters and blades are. Nobody else is really going to want Finch, and Finch works for that character, so it's a good move in that regard. But it's still like her 5th best blade, with you already having one of the others and the other 3 coming guaranteed, so you may have other blades that are more valuable uses for those overdrives. Or maybe not.

Also I thought we agreed driver names weren't spoilers? There was only one person that disagreed and they had already beaten the game.

Ahh ok, I've not followed the thread too closely, good to know.

Well, I'm just toying with my party really - Rex has everyone he is ever going to need, Nia is in great shape, as is Morag. Tora is as good as he is ever going to get unless I want to grind Tiger Tiger, which I don't meaning he's stuck on the bench for now.

Zeke, who is also sitting it out at the moment, has some great blades at his disposal.

Building my team has been really fun and I feel comfortable with what I've got, just wondering if there's optimum builds I don't know about. I've got a few overdrives left so I'm pretty relaxed about using them.

In that case it probably isn't a bad move. FWIW it's one that I made too since Finch has some neat passives. Brighid and Theory are probably the best agility tank blades, and the other three kind of vary. I'd put Finch at the bottom due to weapon but I've seen a person or two give the edge over Perceval.

Hmmm.

I'll be honest, I finished the main story at the 70-hour mark and, despite adoring my time with the game, felt like my experience was over. But I didn't want to let go of the game just yet.

So I started working my way through some of the unique monsters and here I am, 20 hours later. lol

I don't want to read a guide, but I feel comfortable asking the odd question on here as I try to build a team capable of smashing the superbosses.

Is Theory luck-based or is there a quest I should be looking out for?

If you don't already have her you have a lot of work cut out for you lol.

You have to do the Core Crystal Hunters sidequest to get Praxis, advance part of her affinity chart to open up another quest (Blade-Sharp Memory), and that gets you Theory. Then once you progress their affinity charts far enough there is a third quest you need to do to open the rest of Theory's chart.

The whole thing is pretty missable if you are playing blind since you have to buy a certain bit of information from an informant and go to a specific location to start any of it. But Praxis and Theory are both really good blades.

Well, shit. lol

Thanks for the info... I think!

Sounds like I've got to dig into the nitty-gritty now if I want to get the best team. Wish me luck... though I'll probably run out of steam.

Kinda want KOS MOS, just because people seem so obsessed with her. :P

Other than the Xenosaga nostalgia factor she is also undoubtedly one of the best rare blades to come from random core crystals. It kind of baffles me that I've seen people try to play contrarian and say she's secretly kind of bad when she has stupidly good passives and specials. Self healing auto-attacks, a strong flat damage increase AND enemy defense decrease, completely negates enemy defense when using specials AND an attack boost when using them, and she has a party-wide healing special. She's not as OP as Mythra or optimized Poppi QTpi, but she's definitely in the next tier down.

Wow, she sounds pretty great. From what I understand, she's a Light Blade, isn't she? Sounds ideal for Zeke?

I've been opening loads of cores on Zeke, but don't intend to ever use him. My thoughts were, anything great I do get on him, could be used elsewhere... if you know what I mean.

I don't feel like I can drop Nia - having her there with Dromarch, Boreas and Floren is a good safety net. My Morag rarely gets hit though, so maybe I can get away with it?

Just got my first crit/heal accessory and stuck it on Rex for obvious reasons. I feel like I'm still learning loads 90 hours in.

Finally completed the game. Still have lots of blade quests to do but I will wait till NG+ for 100%ing the game.

I can easily give this game a 9/10. That last point is for the "world ability thingies", having to swap blades for everyone of them is a bit tiring, I'd love if the game automatically switched blades for the optimal combination of blades for each one. QoL change basically.
Music is 10, story is 10 (classic cliché anime, yes, and i loved it), gameplay is 9 (small things, combat is overwhelming at first, but easy when you master it as you progress is very satisfying).

I need story DLC, QoL patches (and portable performance fixes) and X1 and X HD ports. Please?

Like XB1, you can drop the dedicated healer. You need to be a little more set up for it in this game though due to the way blades and arts work. I haven't tried all the superboss enemies yet but considering people have beaten them with Rex and Tora solo builds, I'm pretty sure you never actually need a dedicated healer in the post-game.

For less hardcore playing just having Rex's story healing blade and some self-healing setups is often plenty of healing.

So does anyone know which monsters drop Arts Heal V aux cores? I just need a few more, alongside one auto-attack stealth V core, to complete my postgame set-up for the superbosses. I imagine I could get by with level IV cores, but its gonna be bothering me if I don't get the full set-up.

The fucking swift travel limitations in Temperantia are fucking terrible. I don't even want to play the game at this point.

I can travel to ONE spot in Temperantia, the rest just beep when I try to go there. Sometimes one other will work for no reasonable explanation.

Fix this shit Monolith. This barren ass zone is too fucking big to make me run back and forth across it fifty times because you're game is a busted POS. This shit has been going on since they "patched" the game.

Edit: Turning the icons off and back on seems to fix it. Still stupid as hell.

Can someone clue me in on what a "driver combo finisher" is? My assumption was that I had to kill an enemy during a driver combo but that isn't counting...

Yeah, it was a bug introduced by the patch. Hopefully that will be fixed with the next one.

Lemme guess... I'm NOT supposed to attack the Power Lines boss in chapter 5 but the big mech instead?

IIRC the power lines are the main "enemy" but they seemed to have some sort of aggro multiplier and dealt spike damage. The big mech robot thing will repeatedly heal itself to max HP so fighting it is pointless. I had my teammates focusing on the robot for aggro while I target swapped between the two and didn't have much trouble with it.

Smash is the end of the driver combo, so maybe that's what it means?

Nah, you need to get the lines. That said I wouldn't have everyone attack the power lines, you'll just take a load of AoE damage and struggle to live through it. I personally just kept my party members on the robot while I had Rex attack the power line.

The blade that needs to perform the finisher only has access to Break

I'm trying to clear Peruns affinity chart and this is all I have left but nothing seems to work...

I think somebody gets a smash art from lances. I don't remember any affinity charts having driver locks on them but I haven't done hers since she's kind of meh.
