Anyone familiar with Chrom's past in regards to leaks? If Chrom himself isn't comfortable telling us that is.

How you would know that it has a certain theme without knowing anything about what that theme is exactly is confusing to me.

I would also be way more excited if you contacted mods.

Don't know anything about fire emblem but apparently chrom leaked screenshots and details about amiibo content before Nintendo's announcement?

Chrom just warning you you could get banned for doing this if it turns out fake. I'd contact an admin in order to verify if I were you.

Either way, I think it could be 3DS focused if it's small

Gonna make a new bingo card
This just reminded me that I made a bingo card for the last direct but never posted it. Lets see how I did (keeping in mind I made this on the 8th and did not know it would be a mini direct at that point.)...
88kf8hi.jpg

Things that I got right:
  • Mario Odyssey DLC (Luigi's Balloon World)
  • Kirby: Star Allies footage and release date (That happened)
  • Wii U Ports (I predicted at least one, and we got Hyrule Warriors and Tropical Freeze)
  • FE footage and release date (obviously the most likely thing you could put on a bingo card. almost cheating)
  • 3DS Announcement (I'm counting the Kirby demo mention, but you could argue against that)
  • From Software game announcement (Dark Souls)
So I didn't do well, though I didn't expect to by putting Smash and Animal Crossing on the card. Now to make one for the February Direct (not expecting much from the potential direct this month).

So do people get banned on this forum for spreading false rumors? Just wondering in case this turns out to be BS. Also have you talked to the admins about verifying your identity one way or another to back up these claims? I mean they did lock the post with your tweets after all so I remain extremely skeptical about what your saying here especially with how vague you are being.
I confess I'm not familiar with the site's policies enough to say for sure, but it would make sense to me to punish people pretending to be someone they're not and spread false info as if it were true. If that ends up being the case with me, I'd understand it. I have a lot of respect for the site and wouldn't condone it myself either.

I didn't really consider talking to anyone because I only thought about coming forward for the sake of not getting people's hopes up about what I had said. I realized my tweets were propagating inaccurate information after the fact and I felt the correct course of action would be to let you guys know this. As for verifying myself, in actuality I am no one special, just a regular guy with great connections. If someone more reputable here knows whether or not my info is true, they are free to act accordingly. I'd rather not reveal personal details if possible, hope you can understand. I just don't want to cause any more issues.

Splitting direct makes sense if the second direct is focused on 1 or 2 major games to show off. They didn't want those two games to suck the air out of the rest of the announcements.

Could be just extended look at Bayonetta 1+2 plus 3DS and 1 or 2 more surprises. Really should not get hopes up.

I do still question why Nintendo would split Directs up like that, why not just a big single one?

I think there might be multiple reasons.

First, they might prefer spacing the announcements not to overshadow some of them. If they had announced the new Smash Bros. along with Dark Souls Remastered, for example, a lot less people would've been interested in the latter.
Second, they might be following requests from third parties. Maybe From Software didn't want to wait until February to announce Dark Souls Remastered, so announcing it earlier was the only way of having it featured in Nintendo's Direct.

This is all speculation of course.

I'd like to see a 3DS-focused Direct Mini, since it got no attention at all in the last one

they've got all those upcoming Atlus games to pump up, and I need an overseas release confirmation for that third Dillon game, please

If, and I mean if another mini Direct exists for this month, I can't imagine it's anything other than an expose on some mobile and/or casual Switch game(s) that wouldn't have been applicable in the mini Direct gone due to it focusing almost entirely on core/mainline games. Or possibly firmware/online stuff.

I honestly believe the Direct is for updates on upcoming releases and maybe info on OS/streaming apps or Switch Online service.

Imran why not? I don't care if it was a 5 min Direct. I just like getting announcements on games or features for the Switch. I'm not one of those who have absurd expectations for Nintendo. I typically expect very little (or realistic ideas) of what a Direct would cover, so I can be surprised.

I don't normally dabble with these kinds of leaks because it's a pretty shady business as you might understand, and they typically don't pertain to my interests. I'm just someone who loves finding out all the newest stuff about the Fire Emblem series which I'm really passionate about, so naturally with the new game on Switch I really have my ears to the ground about it. When it comes to 'leaks', my penchant's more about finding cool new info just as it hits the net, as opposed to finding top secret info, so that's what my history is more like. Hope that makes sense.

As for the theme of the Direct this week, what I have about it is rather broad, which makes it hard for me to say what you should expect from it. I think it was something like 'games and accessories'? That's all I can really say about it from what I remember. And given the very short length of it, I just don't get the impression it'll be all that exciting.

What makes you think it is for the Switch?

Even if 3DS games are announced, a Direct being 3DS-only would be foolish (very Nintendo-like), but this version of Nintendo is different. I put it at 90% chance there is some info on Switch games/features/online. The rest can be 3DS.

Chrom by accessories, you mean new Joy-Con colors? :D

There is no way they do a 3DS focused Direct. The platform is basically done.

There's only 4 announced retail releases for the platform this year -- 3 from Atlus and Detective Pikachu. Plus two smaller eshop games (Dillon 3 and Sushi Striker). I don't see a reason to expect much more than that. Maybe there will be one or two more retail titles, but I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't.

Nintendo's moved on.

And if that completely sensible and realistic viewpoint isn't enough, logically Detective Pikachu would have been "saved" for a 3ds centric Direct if there really was one only a week later, especially as the only first party retail game announced for it this year. And yes, I know TPC marches to the beat of their own drum, but that doesn't mean there has never been (or can't be) exceptions. In a year that clearly is going to have a very limited amount of releases, it makes no sense to hold it off from a direct a week later.

Wouldn't have expected it to get its own Direct, but Kimishima has repeated a few times that there are plans to take advantage of the Switch's unique form and customizability to give us 'new ways to play.' So I suppose if this is legitimate, that's what we can expect. Here's one of the earlier instances, before the January stage show.

Actually, I think you could be right! I mean, I don't know, but that would make sense to me. Because I remember Nintendo announcing on Twitter a few days ago that new Joy-Con colors were coming later this month, but they didn't actually provide a date then. Maybe they'll do so in the Direct?

So should I get hyped again?
As always it's a question of what you're getting hyped about.

Getting hyped about more retail games from Nintendo being announced for the first half of 2018? Doesn't seem like a wise decision.

Getting hyped about another Direct happening in the next 6 weeks, to fill in some details about the first half of the year and maybe announce a game or two for the second half of the year? Not too crazy.

The Pink and Green Joy-Cons already released. But there were some Cobalt Blue Joy-Cons exclusively sold to Nintendo employees. I would kill to have those.

There's nothing wrong with getting hyped for a Direct as long as you temper your expectations either to a bare minimum, or having no expectation.

You guys keep saying this but it's not true. It continues to sell, games were released last year, and even a new model with special editions. This is nothing like the Wii or Wii U where sales were basically dead by the time their successors came out. It's basically their budget option at this point and until there's a budget Switch the 3DS isn't done.

It sounds like they'll cover 'meta' stuff like the paid online and upcoming accessories (especially the ones that Nintendo execs have mentioned will change playstyles, etc). It also ties in with that Reddit post where the stuff the Nintendo rep uploaded to the demo unit will likely be videos and demonstrations of them

Oh did they release already? If so my bad, I haven't kept track closely enough. Cobalt blue Joy-Cons would be awesome though, I'd love to see them.

I did notice that Reddit post too this evening, I find it very interesting. You might be right that they could be related.

I think 3DS will be part of the February Direct. I highly doubt 3DS is given it's own Direct. That's a slap in the face to Switch owners, who aren't completely over last week's Direct. If it's that small, I expect some info for Switch (maybe OS/Online update) at the end to reassure Switch owners are left out.

I doubt it'd be only about amiibo, but I'm sure people would still love to see new ones.

Yep, and it's fine. I'd like to see maybe Amiibos or Joy-Cons tbh. Unless it's completely new accessories for Bayonetta 1+2 (Pro Controller?).

Sammy Samusu I like your pessimistic outlook on 2018. It suits your Tharja Mii avatar. :P

I think the next Direct is going to focus on those "non-traditional IP" Koizumi mentioned. New IP that focus on different uses for the Joy-Con and Switch hardware.
