whens this direct gonna be announced? should we start counting down soon? reset the clock?
I mean, sure.Maybe not for most people but I find new ideas on how to play games fascinating. New IPs too.
And we have absolutely no idea where they'll go with accessories. Which is exciting.
I mean, sure.
Just saying people shouldn't hype it up as a Direct.
Emily and others have already said to temper expectations way down.

A 15 minute video on just Switch themes would actually be hype.It should be themes.
Metroid...blah blah
Bandai Namco...zzzzzz
Pokemon...boOorrring
ThemesMEGATON
Absolutely not. I think the general belief is there is no direct this week, but instead a very minor announcement.
Hell, Nintendo's channel just uploaded an announcement for a new Scribblenauts game. That could be what the rumors were hinting towards for all we know.

Let me remind you of a certain 3 minute video on October 20th, 2016..... :-)I'm starting to think this video might be a teaser which actually announces a larger event or Direct happening in February-March, but with some glimpses of these new games/IPs and add-ons/accessories.
It would be kind of weird to introduce a bunch of brand new games and products in a very short video without expanding on them at some point soon after.
I think they mean in terms of content for enthusiasts, like most of the people on this forum. I'm expecting a ~3 minute video with some brief clips of new games and new accessories, and that's basically it. Maybe a date at the end saying "find out more then!"
They're going to have a video that tells you the date of the next direct? I doubt it. They don't need anything other than what they said at the end of the last one, we'll continue to release more info, please stay tuned.

Ah ok, I thought by "soon after" you meant a week or so.For some reason I'm starting to think they'll have an actual conference soonish. If it's true that there are some "new ways to play" and new accessories/add-ons coming then it would probably be best to get them in the hands of journalists so they can share some impressions.
I guess this can happen without an actual conference, but it seems like a conference is the optimal way to do this. So this video could be a little trailer/teaser for this hypothetical conference, not a Direct. In which case they probably would give a date.
And what happened less than 3 months later?
That's exactly my point.

Well I don't know for sure but I expect that is basically how people know about this thing beforehand.
It doesn't need to be a conference they can just invite journalists to a few world locations for a hands-on if it's some new physical contraption, like they did for the 2dsxl last May.
Oh yea, forgot about that, what your saying makes the most sense to me too thenYeah you could very well be right. In that case I'd expect a lot of hands-on articles and videos after it airs Thursday.
The original Switch reveal video.

Last year Alexander Brandon announced he was working with Retro Studios... I wonder if he could be teasing Retro's new game that includes his music?
Honestly i dunno why but i am so excited for Switch themes lol, i need my Squid Sisters theme on Switch, with Spicy Calamari Inkantation music!
Or a Off the Hook Color Pulse one.
I wonder when we will finally get themes.... I am sure they will come it's easy money and otherwise you can probably snatch some for free on My Nintendo anyway, would be perfect as some of the possible Switch rewards.
I seriously doubt it. I'm sure he also does his own music in his own time.
There would be some pretty tragic meltdowns if Retro's game is featured on Thursday, when we're hearing it will be about "casual" focused games...
What if Retro is doing the casual stuff.
Like Rare with Kinect Sports
Are there any recent rumors regarding Switch Virtual Console? I know about the plan for the TBA online service to offer access to classic games with online play, but has there been a peep otherwise?
Like I said, tragic meltdowns.
None that I know of. Eurogamer's Gamecube VC rumor from way back in 2016 I believe is the last I've heard.
Apparently none of the insiders know anything about the VC which could mean that it doesn't exist, or they just don't knowAre there any recent rumors regarding Switch Virtual Console? Reggie had a interview about it back in Oct I believe, and he said we would hear more about it this year.

I'm wondering if that GCN VC rumor from Eurogamer has anything to do with Nvidia porting Wii games to the Shield TV. since the GCN can run natively on Wii hardware, whatever emulator Nvidia might have made can work with GCN games and was probably shown as a proof of concept
so far it's just Wii games. but GCN games would work given the similarities in APIMaybe. Wasn't Wii and GC games ported to the Shield? If what Reggie said is true, we should be hearing more about VC either next month or at E3.
He could just be talking about the classic game collection thing not VCReggie had a interview about it back in Oct I believe, and he said we would hear more about it this year.

Possibly a preview video of upcoming switch accessories being uploaded to YouTube thursday
Wii Music 2 here we come!Yeah but it's likely going to be a short video, not a Direct. And it'll supposedly highlight some "casual" types of games and accessories/add-ons to go with them.
just ballparking here: What if the NITW posting on eShop was early?
- the devs wouldn't say what platform it was a few months back
- the release date was listed as Jan 18th, despite the game actually coming out Feb 1st
- it's a casual game with no combat, would fit nice in a chill direct
It's also exactly a week after the Direct Mini

the game is very laid back, enough to be called a casual adventure game imoI dunno if I'd describe "no combat" as casual but yeah otherwise that's a bit of a coincidence. No idea!
i know, it was just listed as Jan 18th initially, which would lineup if it was originally going to be *announced* for switch on the 18th but went up early

I really hope there will be some sort of Switch sports, I know quite some people look down on it, but it's so much fun to play with people(especially tennis and bowling).
