I don't think Marvel/Disney were expecting too much Chinese box-office for Panther.

I'm sure there will be people internationally who will watch this film because of the Marvel Studios name, but I forecast that this film in particular is going to lean more on its domestic box-office to make a profit. This movie is going to be the real test of how strong the Marvel brand is because of how unapologetically black it is.

If this movie doesnt pull it's weight (domestic/international) I won't be surprised if we don't get a sequel for awhile. Especially with that Fox deal in 2019. Im expecting 600 something WW.

It just coming out at a really bad time for the Chinese speaking market lol. I think it will do fine otherwise but other Asia movies will be stealing eyeballs and are more suitable for the festive period.

Edit

Just realised SM:HC caused this lol

I dunno. Ant-man was a moderate success by Disney standards and they still felt the need to put out a sequel, over 2 years after, between their two biggest Avengers films and before Captain Marvel.

Personally, I'm not worried about B.O. at the moment. I just hope the film is good. That's what matters the most to me.

Yeah, Disney doesn't seem to be too fussed by China. They appear to be focusing their attention heavily to South Korea instead. They've already released a Korean promo and are planning a premiere/big event there next month.

I dont like how Killmonger is a yellow colored black panther imo. Marvel already gets shit for having their villains be evil versions of the hero.

I don't want them to waste MBJ or Serkis. But after loving their previous 3 villains I hope those 2 get to shine.

'Avengers: Infinity War' Director Addresses Captain America As Nomad Rumors
"Our approach to [Steve Rogers] was to deconstruct him, to take him in a different direction," Russo told Fantasy Focus Football. "Obviously you can't deal with a character called Captain America without dealing with the thematics behind that, so we wanted a relevancy to it and we wanted to put him in a position where he was questioning the chain of command."
You'll see in these Avengers films, he's on a very specific journey as a character," Russo said. "Some people have suspected that he may be Nomad heading into Avengers 3 and I wouldn't say that he is exactly Nomad, but he is the spirit of that character."

And here's a fan made poster for Black Widow, I'm not particularly fond of it:

If Venom bombs, it'll be easy for Marvel Studios to brush it aside by not referencing it.

If it ends up being successful, it'll be a nice complement to MCU Spider-Man.

I agree completely, I can't see why people are worried by a small cameo from Spiderman. Either we have a great film to compliment the MCU, or it's a failure that can be easily ignored (with none of the blame being laid at the feet of Feige).

I know a bomb can be brushed off by the MCU (hopefully). I'm more annoyed at Sony potentially poisoning the well for certain characters.

I want Felicia in the MCU, dammit.

You know, Sinister Six being the only spinoff Sony hasn't revived makes me wonder if it's in the plans for Spider-man's MCU future. That plus the mid credits scene in Homecoming... hm.

I keep forgetting, but have they actually cast anyone for that movie yet?
I think they cast someone for Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 a few days ago, but the casting or any other castings for the movie haven't been announced yet. We will probably get some casting announcements closer to where the filming starts on May 28.

Btw, the Freeform Summit event happens tonight, and they've just announced that CLOAK AND DAGGER will be one of the four panels.

The press release reads:
FROM COMICS TO SCREEN – CREATING "MARVEL'S CLOAK & DAGGER"

It used to be that you would read a comic book and transport yourself to a place that you fantasized being a part of. Today's television viewing has created long-lasting opportunities for those fantasies to become real, with fan-favorite comic book properties that we grew up with becoming mainstream, appointment entertainment. Stories that we know and love are now brought to our many screens, but how do you ensure that the monumental characters are accurately portrayed? How do you take those characters that were created over 20 years ago and translate their intimate journeys for today's viewer, when those characters were created in a different social landscape? And are those journeys necessarily so different now than they were then? Join the producing team behind "Marvel's Cloak & Dagger" and series stars for a discussion about creating "Cloak" aka "Tandy Bowen" and "Dagger" aka "Tyrone Johnson" – a pair of young adults navigating a world of complexity, separating from parents, creating relationships and forming their own identities. While many of these challenges sound familiar, our young heroes have newly discovered superpowers that only make their journeys more complicated…

"Marvel's Cloak & Dagger" is a coming-of-age series based on the beloved comic characters and is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios. Moderated by Alicia Lutes, Managing Editor, @Nerdist and Host, #Fangirling Panel participants will include:
Jeph Loeb (EP, Marvel's Head of Television)
Gina Prince-Bythewood (Director, "Marvel's Cloak & Dagger")
Olivia Holt ("Marvel's Cloak & Dagger")
Aubrey Joseph ("Marvel's Cloak & Dagger")
Joe Pokaski (EP, "Marvel's Cloak & Dagger")

We might get an official release date for the series here, and maybe a new trailer. So far, the date is still "Winter 2018."

We may also get an update on the New Warriors tv show featuring Squirrel Girl if anybody asks Jeph Loeb.

Freeform Summit should be happening in 5.5 hours from now.

Oh, and here is a fan made Hawkeye Netflix poster:

Also, James Gunn have revealed the name of these Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 creatures!

Could a Sentry movie ever work in the MCU? I have no idea how they'd explain his existence but I just saw The Void introduced to the Marvel phone game and thought of Sentry in the MCU.

The global mindwipe part of his backstory isn't really that interesting or necessary, they could dump it. The interesting part about him is that he's skitzo and afraid to go outside and a recovering addict. That's all you really gotta keep.

Blue Marvel would be the bigger challenge as far as backstory goes.

The next year is going to feel very long for me.
Captain Marvel and Black Panther were probably the heroes I was always anticipating seeing on the big screen the most, and I'm definitely part of the Carol Corps fan club. I know what you'll be going through, but at least they are starting to bread feed us with behind-the-scenes images, and before long we'll have set photos, and probably also an official look at her and a trailer before the end of the year. But yeah, that drought from August-March is gonna be harsh, it'll be the time we'll be looking for the smallest of scrabs of Captain Marvel pieces lol.

Cloak & Dagger Sneak Peak:

Oh man, this went up fast, I hand't expected to see it out in two more hours.

I'm almost unable to get me head around the fact that Captain Marvel is actually, finally happening. I feel like it's been forever since it was announced (those two delays didn't help).

Now to just ride out the home stretch.

Feels like forever since we've seen a big new MCU hero in the flesh. Since Doctor Strange really, once they blew the Spider-Man and Black Panther loads in Civil War. And we got our first Strange set pics way back in early 2016.

Captain Marvel is gonna be a monster hit, I guarantee you.

When that first trailer comes out, it'll be one of the top 5 most viewed of 2018.
