The Internet
Niiiiiice. One of the few Arcade Units I actively seeked out in my teenage years to play. Wasted hours playing this with my friend on the Saturn and then at the arcade.

Thankfully HotD has a good track record of coming to consoles.

Time Crisis has a superb record as well with 4 main entries and 2 spinoffs on consoles but its been almost 3 years since Time Crisis 5 came out.

Side note, they need to bring back Typing of the Dead! I loved that game on my Dreamcast. We always busted it out during parties and watching drunk people trying to type was hilarious.

I'm fairly sure that got a PC port sold on Steam.
Which I really should pick up myself actually.

Edit- Wasn't there a Typing of the Dead version of Overkill too?

Hell ya! Suffer like G did!

Can't wait for the inevitable console port. Same goes for Time Crisis 5, Namco, don't disappoint me now!

Shame we never got Cyberpunk Cop, I mean Virtua Cop 3.

"Don't Come!"

Reminds me i need to pick up House of the Dead 2 & 3 on the Wii.....although at the time they said the Dreamcast version of HOTD 2 was arcade perfect you realise it wasn't when you play the Wii version

One of the best games on Wii. The Dreamcast version of HOTD2 was fantastic as well though.. it was crazy to play relatively arcade perfect games at home at the time.

If Wii Virtual Console ever becomes a thing on Switch, I want HotD 2&3 to be there.

Would to see this and a collection of the entire series for PSVR!

I'm dying for these classic lightgun franchises to make a resurgence via VR. Time Crisis, House of the Dead, Virtua Cop

we're allowed to port beg when it comes to arcade games these days, right?

VR baby. The ultimate home HotD port. I'd love to see the prior games as polygonal arcade cabinets in a VR space, and the latest game get a little bit of massaging into VR form.

I really didn't like HotD Overkill, so it's a huge and pleasant surprise that this isn't another outsourced and console-targeted title.

Could they use the Switch's Joycons as lightguns or is that tech worse than the Wii's and Wii U's. I loved playing Ghost Squad and House of the Dead 1,2 and Overkill on Wii.

Wait, is this actually confirmed somewhere? Terrible if true.

no, not sure where this comes from considering sega's recent sit-down lightgun cabs like target bravo have no such thing. it'll probably resemble the house of the dead 2 deluxe cabinet aside from switching to an infrared lightgun (and being fashioned like an uzi like hotd4)

Oh did hotd4 have uzis? Was just assuming based on vibration seat and the ammo count in the screenshots, my bad.

Though even that would have been wrong since those mounted gun games dont have ammo at all sometimes.

Man, it would be cool if this was in arcades when I visit Tokyo in a few months. Late April too soon for a full release?

Some photos and details/impressions:

DT3i8BXVAAA_p8H.jpg

DT3i8BRVoAEMLd2.jpg

DT3ieTfV4AAIYAx.jpg:large

-Game takes place 3 years after HOTD4
-Protagonists are Kate and Ryan, James Taylor's brother
-The style seems to build very specifically on HOTD4 with the uzi as the main weapon and huge hordes of zombies
-The location test has chapters 0 and 1; after chapter 0 it looks like you can choose a route in the full game but only one option is available for the loctest
-Difficulty for normal mode seems on par with HOTD4
-There didn't seem to be anything that restored life (pickups or rewards for rescues/good level scores), that may have just been turned off for the location test though. There are coins and stuff hidden in boxes (one had a top hat in it lol)
-The boss of chapter 1 is Chariot; Ididn't catch if they explained how/why he's back
-Normal mode has situational automatic weapon changes, apparently in "master mode" you can switch weapons freely, but I haven't tried it yet
-The first two chapters had a grenade launcher, shotgun & rocket launcher at various points
-The cab design is pretty cool, it's the standard sit-down style you see for shooty games lately
-The gun isn't mounted, gun design is similar to the HOTD4 gun and it has a secondary trigger on the front that didn't seem to do anything in normal mode
-There's a coolass lightup zombie on the back
-I didn't feel the various types of force feedback all that much? i.e. seat motion, air blasts, etc. - I mostly only felt them during the boss
-Good force feedback for the gun though
-The sound design is nice and there's an "explosive sound mode" you can toggle on or off (some of the dialogue was impossible to hear but what else is new for arcade games)
-The post-game survey has a question asking if you would be interested in a console port

edit: oh also, the voice acting is pretty bad, not HOTD2 levels but bad enough to satisfy me

^console port interest, hell yeah!

damn, jelly of anyone getting to play this - HOTD overkill remains the series highlight for me, if we're not counting Typing

I have 2 wants for this.

1) Ridiculously cheesy English voice acting
2) A home console release

Though not sure of how likely 2 is. Do lightguns really work on modern TV's? Guess it could use the move controller on PS4.

On this topic, no light guns only work on CRT AFAIK.
How do the new Namco ones like that pictured Time Crisis work?

Do the sit down cabs with mounted guns just have track pad style things in the mount to read where its moving?

Genuinely curious, since I love old school light guns and new sensors seem so much less accurate and fast.

Psvr basically revived the ps move controllers in a way, with aim controller, its even better!

This is great, it reminds of my time as a teenager going to Gamezone or whatever other arcade still existed in Redmond, Issaquah, Kirkland or Bellevue.

Man, I wish arcades were much more prevalent in the states like the used to be. I'm getting all nostalgic in this thread. Was at a bowling alley the other day with a ton of fairly new arcade games and was shocked.
