Today I learned that Word Perfect and Corel Draw are still sold as commercial software

I was even further surprised after getting home and looking it up that Word Perfect is actually not the WP brand slapped as a skin over LibreOffice, it's actually still the Word Perfect code updated over the years. WTF, I thought this software was left for dead.

Yeah, there are some law firms that still use WordPerfect for sure. When I worked as a legal document processor two years ago, we had to learn that stupid software for certain documents. So terrible.

I still remember when my dad brought home Corel Draw for Windows 95. It was on like 6 CDs that needed to be constantly exchanged depending on what you were doing (no room for a full installation when your hard drive was only 1 GB). And it had some really pointless and really 1990s applications too, like converting an image into one of those Magic Eye things that were all the rage back then.

You got to love pc's back in the 90's...switching cd's constantly is something the new generation will never know the pain of. :P

I've been on the IT side of things for too many years now to know if this is still the case, but when I was in app support, Word Perfect could lay out a legal pleading way better than Word and an army of plugins.

There's a department secretary at the college I work for here in the USA that continues to use Word Perfect even though the IT department years and years ago completely stopped buying and offering support for it and for her. She has refused over the decades to switch to Word but since she is so good at her job and so well liked she got a pass early on and, well, here we are. I mean, I don't like change either, but... .

It's true from my experience, too. I just have a huge bias against it because most people on my team refused to learn it, so I had to be the one to do any documents that came through needing to use WP.

My dad runs a 7 figure business almost soley using Coral Draw to develop printed products.

When I worked for him I tried desperately to move to Illustrator but he's a person who absolutely refuses to try new things or change their ways. It took him until this year and a drop in sales to consider a mobile friendly website.

He also uses comic sans on all his promotional material.

God damn, what a nostalgia punch. I thought Word Perfect was just for us poor Canadians in the 90s who didn't have parents willing to buy Word.

Word perfect takes me back, remember it on the Apple 2e I think? Where you had to switch out disk if you wanted to write or print

According to Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy creator), Akira Toriyama still uses photoshop v1 on his mac.

Came to say this. When I was working in the IT dept for a large law firm, I had a copy of WordPerfect on my machine just for testing and compatibility. My company didn't use it but other law firms did.

I used Corel until a couple of years ago because all of our marketing material was done in it. No reason to go to the trouble of switching. (I really need to learn Illustrator now.)

My old job still used Word Perfect. Their report template was created in the early 90s and has been constantly updated since then, and never re-created from scratch. It's a mess of a program, but it does certain things well.

Had no idea. I remember when Word Perfect Suite 8 came out and it had like a french spell check or something to that effect. People in my elementary school, which was french, were getting pissed off with the kids who had it.

CorelDraw is still pretty good IMO. It's not the pre-eminent choice for artists, but it's got great brush tools and a fairly simple but powerful interface.

Paint Shop Pro was bought by Corel years ago, and is still actively supported too. I actually prefer it to Photoshop for my workflow...

I primarily use Painter for a majority of my work, but still use Adobe CC suite (illus/photoshoop/AE) regularly for other things. Painter used to be an insanely unstable program that turned off a large chunk of users. It's very solid now. I started out with Paint Shop back when it was still Jasc. Maybe 7?

I think I remember liking how Word Perfect looked for some reason. Wasn't enough to keep me around on it.

Try working at a school where the teachers run office and the administration runs wp. This was a decade ago.

That brought back memories. WordPerfect on DOS was amazing. Blue background, white text. No distractions.

Also, not that I use it much, but WordPerfect's interface may look archaic, but it's definitely saner and easier to use than Word's ribbon.
