I was under the impression that as of this morning it was pretty clear she was there to sort of make a "fuck you" statement in solidarity with the protestors outside?

Did something else come to light?

Photos from the last month and reports from the event suggested she was directly hanging out with them (such as the aforementioned escape room photo).

She went to an Alt Right convention. She either did it out of curiosity and wanting to confront/interact with her adversaries or she did it to "troll" them.

The former is generally something someone who wants to govern would do but it really pissed off some of her supporters. I say supporters and not her "base" because it looks like the majority of her vocal support can't vote for her.

If it's the latter, no serious politician should be playing stupid twitter troll games.

Either situation makes her and her supporters look bad to the actual voting constituency.

It's not just the Cernovich convention, it's that there's a photo of her going to an escape room with Posobiec, Wintrich, and Fairbanks.

You people falling for that dumb reporting shit too? Seriously, that thread was Alex Jones-level of idiocy.

EDIT: oh you are talking about the Escape Room picture. Yeah, I don't know about all that, but that whole Buzzfeed thing was just bad reporting based off the people who were protesting

Aw fuck, that's a bad look. I really like the idea of someone with her very vocal positions holding a seat in the US Senate but now I'm less sure she should be the one

I will do penance if she can give a good reason for going to an escape room with them. Like, I don't know, she was planning on locking them all in and flooding it but had to escape when they found out.

But I kind of doubt she can!

Yeah what I'm mostly upset about isn't literally that Chelsea is a dumbass, because she's just one person, but that she's blowing it for all the causes that look up to her.

Yup, I'm in here to talk about it because the OT thread is absolutely unbearable for this shit. All the people attacking the left feel so extremely vindicated and it's such a bummer.

Yeah, this is a bizarre situation. Really hard seeing this one explained away.

I'm not worried about it vindicating left-punchers; they find a way to vindicate themselves and pat themselves on the back all the time. And likewise, figures on the left fall all the time. Disappointment is par for the course. What I'm worried about is maybe I should start taking the "tankie" everyone-is-a-CIA-psyop mentality more seriously. D:

Yeah, I feel this too, but at the end of the day, I hope folks are able to take a deep breath and hold firm to the idea that causes are bigger than people. This gives liberal critics ammo against leftward progress, but they always seem to feel they have that anyway.

Still, what a disappointing turn of events. No matter what her reasons were for being there, I'm not expecting any kind of clear explanation from her, since that doesn't seem to be a strong point of her campaign so far.

I'm mad but mostly I'm disappointed and confused. Like, really really fucking confused. This requires a big portion of her persona since release to be...an act? Maybe? What the hell is going on

I can see two scenarios,

1) she has explanations for that.

2) she's hypocrite and is using far-left rethoric to Win this audience, because she's most sucessful there, But she doesnt Care or believe really, she wants to build her political career only.

I Will wait for what she Will say, But for now i believe in 2.

I really hope her point of ideological compromise isn't *reads scribbled message on hand* ... escape rooms.

Whether it's dissonance or dishonesty, I would bet (or hope, maybe?) that it's a more recent development. People change, and not always for the better, especially when there is a spotlight on them.

We know Fairbanks reached out to her on Twitter to congratulate her after getting out of prison. I think the most likely scenario is that they became friends quietly through DMs due to Fairbanks apparently having idolized Chelsea, and from there Chelsea met the other alt right types due to a shared interest in being anti-establishment.

Okay I've had some time to think about this, and try and pull out some useful thoughts from the emotional reaction that myself and many other people in my little internet circle are, justifiably, having

I don't think there's enough here for me to comfortably call her "alt right" or "an alt right sympathizer" or a "phoney", at least not yet. She's been through a nightmarish several years, she's been to some pretty dark places emotionally, we don't always make the best decisions about who our friends are when we're at our lowest. At least for the time being I'm probably just downgrading her from "powerful anti-fascist voice" to "someone to watch"

But also, I really can't support her Senate campaign after this. The decision to crash an alt-right parts during campaign time (and in an election year all public time becomes campaign time) was already questionable and unprofessional but you know, a good explanation, or an apology, or just sort of a contextualizing statement would help a lot. But when you play on the national stage, every single part of your life is going to be sifted through. Being chummy with alt-right types period is just bad. I can't trust who has her ear now, who she listens to.

It's kind of like how, if you take a piece of metal and then you bend it into like a U shape, the far ends are actually pretty close together because of their distance from the middle

(I'm kidding)

Really into alternatives non-hierarchical organization of society that's functional in a global context.
Even in here that's a topic of a lot of debate haha. Actually do we have any full on anarchist socialist or anarchist communists in here? (aside from House of Lightning sorta kinda not really). My focus is on how we construct organizational hierarchies with tangled accountability, really robust systems that provide the advantages of institutional organization while minimizing the ability for power to be exploited.

Fuck me, that's just a lie. Do better. Be better.

What approaches for tangled accountability have you found to be more effective?

"We live in capitalism, its power seems inescapable – but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art. Very often in our art, the art of words."

Maybe I should finally watch Tales from Earthsea, but I've heard Miyazaki's son mangled it...

You should read the first two Earthsea novels at the very least. They're short and breezy and The Tombs of Atuan is one of the novels that's embedded most deeply in my brain.

There's an alternate history where Earthsea formed the foundation for our modern landscape of fantasy media instead of Middle Earth and it probably focuses way less on lore and esoterica and more on myth and social realities

Just saw this, working on a response

"White" "feminism" has nothing to do with it.
It does. White privilege is what let's her do what what the hell she wants, without any accountability.

And white feminism allows her not care about anyone other then white middle class women.
She's appealing to morons and their moron meme culture, which knows no cultural or racial boundaries.
If that were true, then Pepe and other bigoted memes wouldn't exist.

And if your assertion is true. Then it comes back to white feminism with her just not giving a fuck.
But don't blame white people or feminists in general for that abomination of a tweet. ;)
I am in no way blaming Feminists in general, i'm blaming White feminism specifically. There's a difference.
