What exactly were the intentions of Spencer, Ashford and Marcus when they created Umbrella

did they always have evil intentions?

It was always to develop BOWs. Spencer wanted to empower himself, Marcus was always in his research, and Edward wanted to elevate the Ashford name, and the Progenitor Virus was the means.

Eugenics? essentially

For Spencer, eugenics was the path of reshaping the world where he would lead it.

Edward Ashford looked at it more as the company allowing his family to influence the world more and more, though his son Alexander utilized eugenics in hopes to bring about another Ashford member worthy enough to regain the power Spencer was taking from the Ashfords following the death of Edward.

James Marcus didn't really dabble in eugenics directly. All he cared about was his viral and leech research, even if it meant taking over Umbrella to get Spencer out of the way to focus entirely on that avenue.

Yes, the main target was eugenics, a new breed of humans. Hence the Wesker Child project. Keep in mind that the Nidpya tribe used the flowers, that contained the Progenitor virus, in order to see who among them is worthy of being a new leader.

and I believe Alexander, Edward's son created the Veronica Project because he was afraid that after his father's death, Spencer would of drove the Ashford's out of the company, is this accurate?

Pretty much what Spencer took inspiration of to form Umbrella, though I don't think he necessarily shared that exact aim with Edward or James.

More or less. With Alexander it was less a fear than actual observation of how Spencer was operating and influencing his branch.

cause Alexia is arguably the smartest scientist in the series lore? would you agree....which is why William Birkin hated her so much, she had the potential to really change Umbrella

The more I think about it the more I feel like Resident Evil Revelaitons 3 needs to be vanquish on steroids with a really stylish grapple and mele fighting system. Needs to be super over the top. Super crunchy guns, plentiful ammo, huge set pieces, insane boss battles. Online co-op, just the decadence of RE6 taken to shameless maximum. Bring back gold's gym Chris and have him overpower debris and rocks and lift cars. Tons of martial arts cut scenes again, the ones in 5 rocked.

And 8 needs to be super psychological and build a really great sense of mystery in its narrative like 7. I liked End of Zoë, and enjoyed its Zeno Clash game play, but I thought I heard a rumor that one of the developers from PT was on it, so I thought it was going to be more terrifying and psychological than the main campaign.

Hope REmake 2 is just a beautiful and finely tuned masterpiece with all of today's best technology at the helm. I hope it is classic fixed angle stuff. Until Dawn is great and atmospheric, and HD REmake really controlled well with its optional tank or analog controls.

More RE please!

It's a real shame Paul Mercier got replaced by Matthew Mercer for Leon's voice in RE6. The former was far better in the role, imo.

You guys think they'll keep MM for the RE2 remake, or get a new VA again?

They will replace him 100%, that's just what Capcom does at this point.

I don't even care anymore after what they did to Chris in RE7 and Vendetta.

Hey all, this is my first post on ResetEra! I've been following this group for a while and the REmake2 hype made me finally sign up to contribute to the conversation. I'm big into horror games and have been playing RE since the first one came out, even though I was honestly probably way too young to have any reason to be playing it.

Anyways, I'd be pretty surprised if we don't see something from the game soon. Capcom is trollish but not THAT trollish.

Not to mention he was also the Merchant

I love Mercier, had a main role in 3 of my favorite series.
Protagonist of the Socom series
The best Leon in Resident Evil
The first real characterized Ace Combat protagonist

Yeah, what the fuck. Roger Craig Smith was an incredible Chris Redfield. I'm not interested in the character anymore past 6.

Yup. Classic.

At least there's his performance in Darkside Chronicles, which I've yet to play. Not expecting it to be much good, being that it's a rail shooter, but I was always curious about it.

Last few from me.
Unfortunately the RE2 version of the viewer isn't as stable, so I wasn't able to do many models due to glitches.
Hopefully the guy continues his work on these tools one day. They are pretty cool to use and the Dino Crisis one sounded really promising.

I found this model really impressive back in 98. Still look cool now.

So was Spencer an evil guy, or just egoistical?

After the Arklay mansion had been finished, Spencer invited George Trevor and his family (his wife and daughter). He then captured the wife and the daughter (George himself arrived few days later) and started experimenting on them. Lisa was experimented on for years, and you eventually kill her in REmake (some 31 years after she had been administrated the Progenitor virus for the first time).

Then there was the "Project W", where hundreds of children all over the world were captured and brainwashed.

Then, there's the whole Umbrella corporation, where viruses were tested on living things, including kidnapped people, and B.O.W. were developed.

I hate how RE keeps switching everyone's voices all the time. Major characters like Chris or Jill have had five or six different voices. =/
Coupled with a major face change like Chris and it's like it's not even the same character anymore.

Alyson Court was one of the most consistently used VAs. Shame that she got the axe in the end after all.

Is mutating yourself into a horrible BOW in order to kill the protagonists a last ditch "I know i'm screwed" move. Or do they actually expect to turn back to normal afterwards. Has this been discussed in any of the games?

Alex Wesker is probably the clearest example of the mentality - she did it once she already considered her current body 'dead', at least initially, with her means to live on being already arranged and separate from it. Similarly, Birkin only infected himself because he was on the verge of death, but that was for more general revenge.

The only one whose transformation was entirely premediated was probably Alexia Ashford - even Wesker was pressured into infecting himself with Ouroboros in a time and place he didn't choose; although it's not stated whether he'd have been able to control and repress it if he succeeded.

I'm not sure about where the Plagas infected fit - obviously they're living for an extended period of time while infected, but Salazar, Mendez and Saddler's actual boss transformations are more in line with other last ditch attempts. Krauser's arm likely wouldn't have reverted (outside of Mercenaries), but it didn't seem like an insurmountable thing to live with.

Has anyone played The Uncanny Valley, the free horror game on PS Plus this month?

If so, it any good?

I have mixed feelings about it.

It has a good atmosphere of panic and you not really knowing what is happening, and the artstyle is good, but on the other hand, it is also kind of broken. The game doesn't really explain what's going on, what should you do and why things are happening. It's the kind of game that you have to play multiple times and learn new things each time, since you can get a different ending (in various parts of the game) depending on what you did / did not, where you are at a given time, whether or not you've seen a certain scene etc... Which can lead to "broken" playthroughs: on my first playthrough a car drove by and killed me on the second day, all of a sudden, without any explanation. On my second playthrough, I was suddenly kidnapped and had no idea who the kidnapper is, where am I, and what should I do (and then I died, because I didn't have items required to get out). Only when I started playing with a walkthrough I could grasp the story and beat the game (i.e. got one of the better endings) , but looking at the trailer and screenshot gallery on Steam now, I haven't seen a lot of those scenes in the game.

Each playthrough is short (less than an hour), but some parts at the beginning are unskippable so you can't skip right into the branching part.
