Despite no official announcement, yet, Formula 1's over-the-top service continues to move forward in the background. Former GP2 commentator and NBC pit lane reporter Will Buxton is all but confirmed, alongside a line-up that may feature James Allen, Johnny Herbert, and Rosanna Tennant.

One early left-field rumour was that Allen and Herbert would form the commentary team, but recent suggestions indicate that FOM will take the Sky Sports F1 commentary, made up of David Croft and Martin Brundle.

A survey distributed by Hall & Partners on behalf of Formula 1 last weekend suggested that only five countries will have access to the live over-the-top service at launch. They are USA, Mexico, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. You can add Spain and the rest of Latin America to that list based on more recent rights announcements.

New Formula E car can't possibly be more "Batman" than this:

Lucky you. There's another year on the current contract with Viasat here.

Also I wonder how rigorous they will be when blocking VPNs.
Probably not that rigorous, like most of these. Unless they block foreign payment methods, of course.

NL probably lucks out because Ziggo is a subsidiary of Liberty itself.

I really cannot wait until the Sky deal is up and we can hopefully get some sort of access in the UK. Although I would consider signing up anyways if they put up all footage from the archives for On Demand viewing.

Fingers crossed for Ireland, surely sky don't care enough to block it.
If not, guess I'm from France now...

I'm glad they've picked up SSF1's feed. It's pretty much the broadcast of record anyway.

Also, re-watching the seasons from '07 through to now, I've a new appreciation for David Croft. Martin has always been awesome but I much prefer Croft to Allan and Legard. Used to rip him but he's quite good in comparison. Can't remember how Coulthard did in 2011 but looking forward to reliving it haha

I've got a pretty good paid VPN service, so I'm hoping there's not too much drama to use it overseas.

Maybe Force India will finally have a branding that fits their impressive performance.
I've grown fond of the BWT pink for some reason but I assume that'll stay the same anyway

Force India has been the worst name on the grid for a team ever since they introduced it. I'm glad they're getting rid of it.

I'm surprised to see Germany on that list. I thought Sky would prevent something like that.
I believe Liberty has yet to agree to a new contract with Sky Germany while RTL got theirs renewed. I imagine Sky isn't too happy about this streaming service.

Can't wait for the streaming service. I hate watching races with commercials cutting in every 5 minutes and would gladly stop downloading torrents for the sky feed if I could just pay for it.

I hope this streaming service offers 50/60fps playback (F1 has been recorded at 50fps for seasons and their YouTube vids show this).

I'm in the UK so God knows when we'll ever see it.. but it would be nice to see them doing that.

Just found this thread. I'm excited for 2018. I'll probably be paying more attention to the midfield this season since the top will still be dominated by Mercedes and Ferrari. Did we get confirmation that Red Bull is using Renault engines again for 2018? I know there was a rumor of them moving to Honda engines, but I can't imagine a team like Red Bull taking a step down like that.

I hope the streaming service is reasonably priced. Other sports are usually $80 - $100 for the entire season. I'd be willing to spend that amount of money so I don't get ads during the races anymore.

Are you sure you didn't mean 2019? Red Bull is using Renault for 2018, Toro Rosso is using Honda. The smaller team is going to beta-test the Honda engine and Red Bull will decide what to go for in 2019.

It's a shame Red Bull (and McLaren) are stuck with the two worst options for an engine because Mercedes and Ferrari don't want the competition (while Renault doesn't seem to mind - for now)

Maybe Mercedes will get bored of winning titles from 2014 to 2021 and leaves for the next formula.

I already pay like 11 GBP per race for Now TV, so my ceiling is pretty high.

I'm expecting between ten to fifteen a month judging by other VOD services.

No, I meant 2018. I knew Toro Rosso is using Honda for 2018, but I thought there was some talk when Renault announced they were supplying McLaren that they didn't want to supply Red Bull anymore or something like that. I had just never seen confirmation that Red Bull was using Renault in 2018, so that's why I was curious.

The real question is if the Red Bull - Renault relationship is healthy enough to continue in 2019 if Honda remains the worst option. After the first two hybrid era years (2014,2015), Red Bull had thrown so much vitriol in the direction of Renault that I'm surprised they're still together.

Formula E teams will have first group test of Season 5 car from 26 to 28th of March at Monteblanco race track in Spain.

They will receive S5 cars after Santiago GP - that means sometime in February.

The word Force on its own doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

I expect a lot of wordplay involving an "unstoppable Force".

24 Hours of Daytona is this weekend, I'll have an OT up soon. Probably going to be a lot people's first exposure to IMSA racing. I already have the perfect OT tagline in mind.

Crofty, sometime in 2018, after Perez or Ocon crash into a wall: "I guess you could say that an unstoppable Force... met an immovable object"
[Audible noise of Brundle facepalming in the distance]
[Audible noice by Mark Webber, also in the distance]

Hasn't Mercedes had 1000bhp for a while? It's not like they have stood still over the break either

It would be cool if Haas did something with ESPN for their car launch for us American fans :)
