yeah, giving enemies hitscan weapons in games like this is almost always a mistake. Gets to the point where gameplay gets *better* in later stages when their machinepistols get the nailgun upgrade.
Tbf, it is very nice that armor on enemies actually means something. On armored dudes, leg shots are often more important than aiming for the torso, simply because the former will be unprotected.
turns out that ADS perk stacks with the laser rifle. Which can be charged. Which results in being able to one-shot absolutely any enemy in the game if you aim for the head.
started the game and... fucking massive glaring resolution issue where fullscreen is way too fucking zoomed in (and also incidentally it was detecting the wrong monitor as monitor 1 for whatever reason).
not a great first impression
can't figure out how to fix it either since my dpi scaling boxes on the exe are greyed out because i think it's a 64 bit app.
Only a few hours in but I'm loving it so far. The opening went to some really unexpected places. Dark in a completely different way than I was expecting.
My only real complaint at the moment is the issue I've seen mentioned the most in here. It's difficult to tell when you're being shot and on a higher difficulty, it can be especially frustrating.
I'm just feeling the game is obnoxiously difficult at times. Having to completed TNO on Bring em on (Basically the normal setting) it challenged me but I never felt so overwhelmed that it was impossible.
In TNC I feel I'm made of tissue paper...
The Roswell mission from the start to getting on the train, to getting to the front of the train and then getting on the lift afterwards to the top
was just a unrelenting slog.... I don't mind hard, I'm more than willing to git gud, but it felt unfair as you literally die in a instant.
The bitterness of the how cheap it kills me sometimes combined with how overwhelmed it makes me (like thinking how on earth will beat this, or beating a section only to discover it's far from over and more Nazis come at you), overall it starts to grate on me.....
and the
Courtroom
... jesus
I've dropped the difficulty down to Don't Hurt me from Bring em on and it's too easy, but I'm going to stick with it as the difficulty is starting to grate on me and I'm otherwise enjoying the game and it's bonkers storyline
Also that weapon wheel and selecting for Duel Wield can go to hell. I'm using KB+M can I not have 2 hotkeys for each weapon ie one for Left and one for Right?, 12 Hotkeys would be really nice instead 6. This adds to the difficulty but not in a good way.
I'm enjoying it a lot but these issues are taking the polish off it for me.
I'd like to buy this game... but I think I'll have to drop the whole series at the London Monitor boss fight in the first game. Such an awful boss, I'm so pissed I can't see me passing it. That's so annoying since the game up until that point was top notch
I remember enjoying that boss fight. I feel like both of these games have elicited such wide ranging opinions. I loved TNO and I'm enjoying number 2 quite a lot.

When will I be able to use the Enigma Codes? In the tutorials it says that it can be decrypted when a machine becomes available. Am I missing it or it will be obvious later in the game?

I made a huge, infuriating mistake. I'm from Germany and bought the game via Steam. I don't mind the censorship, that's not the problem. BUT: I'm stuck with the GODAWFUL german translation! There is no option to select another language and the German voices are incredibly bad. Played the first 20 minutes and turned it off, desperately searching for a way to get the English voiceover. Can anyone help me?
I only get perfect aim enemies from the lasersoldiers on the hardest difficulty but they're not meant to be shot from the front anyway so I flank them.
Just finished the game on Normal difficulty at 11 hours. I still have the sidemissions to do to boost up that playtime, but not really interested in that.
Wolfenstein II is probably my GOTY. I didn't think it'd be possible after finishing Super Mario Odyssey first, but here we are. I was always a big FPS singleplayer campaign kinda guy, but in the last few years not many FPS games really flashed me. There are a few FPS games that could: Doom, Titanfall 2 and Wolfenstein TNO.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is on another level. I don't think I've ever seen such great characters in an FPS. They're all likeable in their own weird way. Of course BJ is the star of the show, I absolutely love his inner monologue especially in the first few hours. You can really feel his pain and his struggle
fighting the Nazis and having to care for his family.
Having great, likeable characters in your game? That's all fine and dandy... But even more important is telling a story in which these characters can live and act to their full potential. I absolutely love the story. It's a story of fighting back, starting a revolution, loss, family, friends, love, pain and overcoming internal and external problems. A good story always needs some kind of force pushing back against the good guys. A good story needs a great villain. Wolfenstein II has the most despised villains in history and they use them to their full potential. You see them celebrate inflicting pain unto others, taking control over the world and just being evil in general. Over the course of the game you, the player, fight back. And that fight is beautifully told with cutscenes that show the game's graphical prowess in full force.
The gameplay itself is very satisfying and gives the player creative ways to fight back. I love that you can choose your own akimbo configuration. I didn't use any of the pistols, just because I had so much fun with the Sturmgewehr, the Maschinenpistole and the Schockhammer. Also all the heavy weapons you can pick up are great fun and really strong too. I loved all the locations you visit, it's such a variety of different areas with their own, unique aesthetics.
Though not everything is perfect. I think they should have toned down the appearance of commanders a bit. Often times you're better off stealthing until you kill the commander and then you can go crazy. This is probably even worse on the higher difficulties. I'm sure they could find a way for the third game to remove or reduce the use of that mechanic, but still entice players to stealth if they want.
Because of that it's not a perfect game (no game is), but it's the best singleplayer FPS campaign since Bioshock Infinite (one of my favorite games ever) imo.
10/10. Can't wait for the third part of the story.
Probably gonna use this write up for the inevitable GOTY thread
and jeeeeezus i was not expecting what would happen next. i kind of love that there is seemingly no limit to the level of absurdity this series is willing to achieve.
The ending though was the weakest bit. Its actually super surprising since I was expecting the call to ARMS to happen in the middle rather than the very end. I was really looking forward to Frau's reaction and subsequent boss fight and was a little disappointed it didnt play out like that. I DID like jumping her out of her skin at the tv show though. Credits music was super lame to my surprise.
I wanted that encounter at the show to turn into a full fledged boss fight. Have her guards come out and she runs to an experimental mech to attempt to stamp BJ out for good. I'm also now obscenly worried that if this game doesn't do well we will be stuck with this ending.

Just finished... this is the best linear FPS in ages. The story was incredible, to the point where I didn't have any trouble suspending my disbelief at some of the sillier developments.
I do wonder how a third game would play out though, considering the core narrative similarities between this game and the last:
Bad guy appears, kills one of your allies in a gruesome manner, you gather a team of new allies and eventually defeat them,
I don't know if they can do that again. The middle act broke from the formula and was arguably the strongest bit, so I hope the writers are emboldened to experiment more in the sequel.
Also...
Hitler's setup as the next villain was great, a mixture of Howard Hughes and Vaas from Far Cry. This may actually have been my favorite fictional portrayal of him ever, it felt so true to the small man he truly was, rather than the titan history has made him.
Honestly, I found both final bosses kind of lame. TNC's is slightly worse because I didn't actually even realize it was the final boss for some reason, but neither was mechanically that interesting or difficult.

I'm playing on terror billy with the HUD off and this is the most fun I've had all year.
The difficulty does not let you get lazy. You actually need to think through the encounters or use stealth effectively.
It doesn't feel unfair to me, just doesn't let you make mistakes or be on autopilot.
I'm at around 15 hours and idk how far along I am,

but I'm taking my time and even playing through the game in the cantina and doing the side missions. This game has a ton to offer if you take your time with it.
This was my most anticipated game of all year so I really want to savor it. Going to do the platinum as well after finishing it.
