Never used the Moto X4, but I did use the Moto G4 Plus which is lower end than the X4. Honestly, it ran better than the Nexus 5X (I owned and used it for about 1-2 months). I always felt the 5X was a little slow and lagged if you opened the camera or Google Maps.

Thanks. I agree that the 5X feels a little slow, especially with more demanding apps. I'm looking forward to having a phone that runs at least a little bit better.

To let you know you have unread notifications. You can turn that off in settings, but I like it. Sometimes I pick up my phone just to put in in my pocket and the vibration lets me know to check for notifications.

Have you got an unread text message?
I'll try to pay more attention next time it happens.

It likes you. Pet it some.
I like this idea better.

Going to use Evie launcher for the week. This thing is so close to greatness. It's butter smooth takes up less resources than Nova so far. Just needs Google voice hotword activation on home page and custom gestures.

Making use of the edge app panel (quick access to 10 of my most used apps apart from the docked ones) has allowed me experiment more and try out another launcher because I don't need the swipable dock now.

That feature is pretty buggy for me on my S7. It often triggers when I put my phone in my pocket just after using it, having no open notifications. And then I check my phone... and no notifications. Terrible feature.

The only thing worse than companies removing the headphone jack are the idiots who somehow advocate for less choice. The hell is wrong with you? You love Bluetooth headphones so much, it works great on phones with headphone jacks. How brainwashed do you have to be to buy the Apple spin that you have to choose either/or?
No headphone jacks make for a better Bluetooth market. Manufacturers have to focus on BT. See AirPods making everyone step up their wireless headphone game.

Great. Maybe in 5 years we'll have BT headphones for 30 bucks that are as reliable wired headphones. Can't wait.
Is this your only option? Because there are two alternatives I can see here, too.
1. Buy phones with a headphone jack.
2. Buy headphones with USB-C connectors, that will no doubt be mainstream pretty soon.

Of course, the comical part of point 2 is that many USB-C connector headphones have compatibility problems.

I'm really struggling to think of the last time we were forced into an "upgrade" that actually resulted in significantly lower quality / compatibility.

You can get some good cheap Aukey or Anker BT earbuds on Amazon for like $25. They aren't gonna blow the world away sound wise, but that's the same for wired headphones at that price.

-Snapdragon 625/630 as the defacto processor for the 200-300 price range when the 650/Helio X20 where punching way above em in terms of performance.
-Dual Cameras splitting image quality across two sensor for a perceived improvement in focus and other effects, ignoring the fact that nothing has really changed.
-18:9 screens add height, but is a widely uncommon resolution and its never really going to catch on in the media world and 16:9 is always going to be the preferred format for televisions and computers.

The whole industry's been regressing, with expensive solutions to non existent issues.

Not if I watch more video on a phone than do anything else. Haven't minded 18:9 for most things when I can zoom in, but if the framing is out, I'm buggered.

Maybe it's just me, but "watching videos" is a pretty minor use for me on a day-to-day basis. The added horizontal screen space serves a great purpose for pretty much every other use case.

I have a stand and I watch videos all day at work when I don't have a podcast on. I don't watch movies mind you, just TV Shows and YouTube.

Movies not so much, but my Dad has health issues where he doesn't get out a lot, so with one PC at home most of my media consumption, TV shows, Anime, Youtube or otherwise, is done on my phone. Its a small screen yes, but letterboxing or a forced fit would drive me mad. I have used them and the tall aspect is great for web browsing, yes, but everything else would drive me mad.

the whole letterboxing complaint is so weird to me. ye you're losing screen real estate but you're not losing anything really. if your display was 16:9 i'd wager it would be the same as a 18:9 screen of the same size. is it the bezels that annoy you or what

I can't do in-ears. I hate that feeling too much. That's why I currently have these from Philips.

They get the job done but BT is always a hassle. Switching devices plain out sucks and once I'm out of range, they won't reconnect 80% of the time and I have to "reboot" the headphones. So yeah, I can't wait for better BT, thanks to Apple. Not to mention that you have to charge them at least once a day, but I acknowledge that it's a form-factor issue but I'm not wearing over-ears, either.

Personally, I don't need the headphone jack and I never mentioned it in my post.

I like the convenience of wireless headphones, of course. But as long as the cheap ones aren't as reliable as wired headphones, I understand when people complain about OEMs ditching the jack. "A better BT market" in the future (when?) is not that helpful in this case.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply you did, just responding to the point that those users have options in the meantime and it isn't just one or the other.

I know. Totally true. People just complain without understanding their complaints. Like the iPhone X notch. It's literally more screen instead of the Galaxy approach of horizontally blacking out the entire notch edge to edge.

Will you be charging the battery for me? My 3.5mm don't need to be charged.
And your old Nokia phone never needed to be charged everyday.

It just feels wrong grabbing the phone and not having something to rest my thumb on, even those small slivers on 18:9 screens are weird to me. Maybe its not being used to it, maybe I am just being an old man yelling at clouds, I just can't deal with all screen on the front. 16:9 with 1/2 a thumbs width top to bottom and edge to edge is the farthest I accept.

Compared to those Nokia phones, today's phones have a lot more functionality and are a lot faster. BT headphones get rid of the cable and that's it. It's convenient but it doesn't turn your headphones in a completely different class of device.

Just rest your fingers on the screen on the black borders.

Not like they feel any different than bezels these days

I guarantee you that it's not something you will even notice after a day or two of use at most.
