I finally got my A rank from King Dice and beat the Devil as well. He wasn't really more difficult than previous fights so after King Dice I think the worst is over. All that's left is the S rank achievement and beating the game on Expert. I'll probably give it a go but I'm already satisfied with how far I got. The game is truly amazing!

Nice and congrats. :D

I did Goopy for S Rank, because he was a lot easier than the Root Pack, in my eyes, because of no projectiles and 3 very easy questionmarks that you have to parry.

Good luck on Expert, if you are attempting it. Pre-patch it wasn't really much harder, than Regular (except for the flying stages), but I can't immagine how hard it might be post patch. Had enough trouble with Dr. Kahl's Robot post patch.

I started it and made it to world 2, but it doesn't seem like I'm anywhere close to being able to beat any of the bosses. My reflexes aren't what they used to be -- I got an SNES classic for my kid and played some of those games and can't for the life of me not fuck up somehow. It doesn't help that I'm always tired when I get to play.

Cuphead is almost all pattern recognition, reflexes barely play any role.

I am about to move to World 2. The game is challenging but it seems pattern memorization is key. I usually get my ass kicked until I got the pattern down and then I'll go untouched.

I definitely have peaked with my gaming skills. Beating Bloodborne a few years ago was my swan song, I think.

Really digging it, though.

Tried it with the Root Pack and got it on my first attempt :D Almost didn't dodge the last wave of the potato, though.

I just started playing this yesterday. I played through about 1/5 of it while listening to the Giant Bomb GOTY podcast. On around the third boss, I felt like I would never beat it, but then I slowly got better, and did.

I feel like the game uses too many buttons for how simple it actually is. I guess it's the dash, lock aim, and weapon change buttons could go if the game was designed more like Contra or Metal Slug.

I think the hitboxes on some of the pink stuff is pretty bad. Bullets are fine, but sometimes bosses have other stuff, and parrying off those felt like it was too hard.

Yeah, it's disappointing. I'd love options to match Hard Corps controls on my arcade stick - especially double-tap to dash, the game is pretty much unplayable on stick for me.

Made it to the third stage. The pirate ship guy was super easy. The queen bee however is going to take forever.

I just beat the boat guy too. I got everything up to that beat on normal. The dragon definitely has given me the most trouble. Mostly because of his exploding fireballs at the very end. I'm trying the sea medusa now.

Yeah, I tried he same thing. I got my stick all set up, and then I couldn't do it, because you need to be able to quickly use aim, dash, and super at any time, while still having your fingers on shoot and jump.

Hey everyone, is there a way to get the Cuphead physical case? I walked into Best Buy today and all they had were codes on the shelves.

I made it ti King Dice. Dr Kahl's Robot, Grim Matchstick, and Rumor Honeybottoms were by far the toughest bosses. I thought I was going to have trouble with the Phantom Express, but it wasn't bad at all.

They must have made tons of profit, do you think they are working on Cuphead 2 already?

After hearing about how much they put on the line for this game, hopefully theyre taking some much needed time off. Day 0 for cuphead 2 tho.

Yeah I hope they are chilling right now. If anything, maybe just brainstorming ideas for the sequel.

Yeah, it's going to take a while. For now they're deservedly just reaping the profits and awards.

i beat the game on expert. only about 1% of players have done this, per steam achievements https://steamcommunity.com/stats/268910/achievement. did it in 19 hours total, so woo me. i'm not insane enough to go for S ranks on every boss though

i beat the game using mainly charge shot and the smokebomb charm. smokebomb is probably too good. also, super 1 just seems a lot better than 2 (invincibility) and 3 (a ghost clone with higher damage potential than 3 but requires you to control it)

on certain bosses, i used different weapons, like lobber for rumor honeybottoms and roundabout for the ghost train. but charge shot is just so good in most situations, it's ridiculous. i'm reading online that grim matchstick gives a lot of players a hard time, but with charge shot you kill him so fast, even on expert, that you don't have to dodge fireballs very long on the triple headed phase. plus, with charge shot you can aim carefully and avoid destroying fireball

on expert, i thought hilda berg, wally warbles, rumor honeybottoms, and king dice were especially hard. king dice is not hard except for his last phase, and on expert, you have a much longer sequence of cards you have to jump over. during this time i shot him with chaser, even though chaser does awful damage, because some damage is better than no damage. i also have to mention perilous piers was a pain to get pacifist rank on. that octopus section, ugh

one minor gripe i have with the game, and i realize it's completely intentional, is that foregrounds will block the view of potentially important information from the player. the worst offender is the horseracing boss for king dice.

I avoided the horse race fight exactly because of this. I would often miss a ghost flying up because of some foreground object obstructing my view. It felt cheap but at least it was the only time this was a problem and the fight is optional.

I took a break from the game before my expert run. Probably not the best idea but I was in the mood for something else.

Just beat King Dice, woo boy. I hear that the Devil is a little easier? I'll find out later, cuz I need a break from the game. Getting through this was a grind. Basically my goal was to go into the actual fight with King Dice with at least 5 HP via the extra health you can win on this stage, and a full super meter. Easier said than done, because I basically had to do a whole string of mini-bosses without taking one hit. The key thing is to game the dice so that you get the easiest mini-bosses/pick up the extra HP as you work your way across the table. I found a pretty reliable rhythm for rolling the number that I wanted...

Roll 1: Stand right under Dice's hands as they come together; as soon as they come together, immediately jump and parry right away.
Roll 2: As Dice's hands come together, jump up; if you've timed it right, you should be in the middle of your jump spin just as his hands come together. In the next instant as you spin back down, quickly parry.
Roll 3: As Dice's hands come together, stay on the ground; as the hands separate, then do a short jump and quickly come back down and parry.

Maybe this will help someone else trying to get through King Dice. :)

I went ahead and beat the Devil this morning - I just had to try. He wasn't too bad, definitely a bit tricky, but the first phase is by far the hardest. Everything after that goes fast, before I knew it I was sailing through those last phases like butter. I think his level of challenge was appropriate - a little tricky, a little tough, but stay frosty and you'll pull through 'em. I needed something a bit tamer after King Dice, that whole affair was just too wild. I don't think I could have handled a tougher boss, lol.

All in all, toughest bosses for me were probably the dragon, the bee, the train, and King Dice. Also had a tough time with that damn clown. The robot wasn't super hard for me, luckily, maybe I just got lucky with some favorable RNG.

Awesome game overall! :)

Beat this the other day. Felt the Dragon and Devil were the hardest bosses. The Bee was such an easy boss to push fast.

Used the special Regen charm and regular pea shooter all game besides on two bosses. Used the mid-range weapon that drops to the ground on the been final phase.

Used the spread shot on the devil to make him 400x easier.

Also one thing that annoyed me was my game would skip frames at times. Like the game would blink and you would appear whenever you woulda been a second later. It caused me many a death (seemed to happen more later in the game).

This game. Haven't played in a while since the robot boss was, to me, unbeatable. Last night I kicked his ass, then the mermaid lady, then the ghost train all in one sitting. Hopefully I can slay this casino level pretty quick. Doesn't seem too hard just yet.

It's funny. Earlier on, I thought the airplane levels were a lot easier, but now they are way harder because of the robot and mermaid.

Me and my brother finished this yesterday. The game is fun. Maybe I'll come back to play this in single player.

Why only seven pages for this gen of a game, Era? Yesterday I finally refreshed my PC after a while and this is awesome, so much charm.

Just got around playing this and it's sooooo fun, think I've beaten the first two run and gun levels and 3 or 4 bosses.

The frogs one is a bit of a bitch in their final form so I haven't beaten them yet, I fucked up one of my fights with them where I got that super easy final form though.so nkw I just keep getting the hardest final form version of the fight.

I dunno if this thread is still alive but I'd love some tips to beat this boss.

If you're having difficulty with the final stage of that boss, try equipping the heat seeking weapon, hold down the fire button and just concentrate on the platforming/dodging only. It'll take a little longer than normal due to the associated damage drop with the weapon but it gives you one less thing to think about.

Somewhere.
Thought I drop in to point out that Cuphead won the "Outstanding Achievement, Character Animation – Video Game" at the 45th Annie Awards, which is a major animation award ceremony in Los Angeles.

Cuphead was so good in this regards, that it got nominated twice here lol. Sounds like the one with Hanna Abi-Hanna won.

Hadn't played since October, when I got a bit stuck on King Dice. Got a new TV with significantly better input lag. Figured out how to nail the roulette dice every time, blazed through him and The Devil in about an hour. Ended with 426 deaths...it felt like much more!

Overall, an amazing game.

What's your approach so far? I read somewhere else that some people jump one number before their desired number comes up but that didn't work reliably for me. I just imagined my number going around the back and made it a point to say it a few times in my mind (or out loud if that helps) when it would come up. I always got the number I wanted using this method.

Finally beat the game after 15 hours of struggle. Its an amazing game though! I played all of it in coop and it seems that coop is actually way harder than solo because our best runs were always when one of us died super early on.

Just beat the game today, I really couldn't be happier with it. I think that my favorite boss was the rat, not because of the mechanics or anything but just because the whole scenario was hilarious. I was laughing out loud when the cat busted in and ate him. The game has so much character and so many moments like that, it's astounding.

Of course the game is very difficult, but it is fair and I never felt that I just couldn't beat a boss. The closest I came to that was the first few times trying to get through the first phase of the robot. But even then I got the pattern down after some time with it.

The one and only time that I felt the game was unfair was the third phase of the dragon fight, since the exploding fire ball projectiles seemed completely random, and kind of difficult to see in all of the chaos.

The release date was a bit of a letdown, but, yeah , this game of all things, the reasons are obvious why content will take time. Everything about the DLC sounds great!
