First wave of artists for the Chatmonchy tribute album (out on March 28) has been announced, pretty stacked!
  • Kawatani Enon
  • Guitar Wolf
  • Kinoko Teikoku
  • Group Tamashii
  • Shuudan Shuudou
  • CHAI
  • Negoto
  • Hump Back
  • People In The Box
  • Fujifabric
  • Homecomings
  • YOUR SONG IS GOOD
  • Wasureranneyo
Wonder what songs will be on it. I'd love to hear Enon or Kinoko Teikoku covering Sekai ga Owaru Yoru ni, Hump Back doing Majority Blues or Fujifabric doingShangri-la. Hope someone does Convenience Honeymoon too.

Are any of these alt r&b, like Banks, Abra, Kelela, or Tinashe? That's the kind of stuff I'm into.

oops. Meant to add that to my last post.

.

Most of those ones i listed up top don't really fit into the whole Alt R&B label. Most would be under Future R&B, Future Soul, Neo Soul & Classic. I don't think i've really run into any Alt R&B from Japan tbh.
You might like starRo if you want something similiar to Alt R&B.
He's more of a beatmaker though with features & his sound leans more towards the whole Future R&B sound that you can find on Soulection. Listen to his album "Monday"
I would also recommend checking out Metome who is another beatmaker who leans more IDM but with Jazz & R&B influences. If you like Kelela's Take Me Apart maybe his album's Objet & Opus Cloud will scratch that itch.

the peggies released a new mini-album today and I didn't expect to blew me away but it did.
The lead track is incredible, feels "bigger" than their earlier works. Hope they stick with this style cause the new release might be a favorite of 2018.

All I've seen is videos of them sat down talking, and a small clip of them doing a YMM cover. Pic needs updating anyway, there's more members now.

Full version of yonige's song for Au, which is an arranged version of When The Saints Go Marching In

The former members of Galileo Galilei started a new band : Bird Bear Hare and Fish. Not sure why they just didn't restart Galileo Galilei since they just have one more member. Their first show will be in May.
I wonder what kind of music they'll do, since Ozaki also started his solo project recently. Hoping it'll be close to GG circa 2011 tbh.

04 Limited Sazabys will release a new single, My HERO / 夕凪, on March 14. First time they have a song title written in Japanese.

So, this thread is the only place I can share my passion project with:

I've been researching how to record LaserDiscs and VHS onto my PC for the primary reason of backing up old Japanese music I've accumulated over the years, mainly YMO and Chisato Moritaka. Going by Discogs, I have what I believe to be all of their disc and tape releases. No Betamax, sadly, not that crazy...

What got me started on this was the amount of low quality rips of stuff I already owned on YouTube. I figured I could be that guy that takes the time to make a proper archive and also use proper Japanese(I hope) in the title with English to make it easier to find. I finally found a decent composite capture card and fine-tuned upscaling without filling my hard drive in 5mins that doesn't compromise quality.

Right now, I'm testing the 1983 YMO 伝説(Legend) live LaserDisc. I've had success with directly feeding it into OBS and scaling in there. If I can find a cheap HDMI capture card, I may also try with an old DVDO scaler to 720p, then tweak afterwards. I'm still fine-tuning proper color and black levels. LaserDisc was incredibly finicky with that, especially when playing on modern monitors/TVs because of the color and black level format. I should have a sample to share next weekend if anyone is interested.

Hello, first time I'm posting but I couldn't find any mention to evening cinema and they're pretty good, released their first full album last December, so I'll leave here some of their songs, just in case someone's interested!

The face of Nogizaka46, Ikoma, will graduate once they release the 20th single (not date yet)
Guessing she'll be the center to send her off like they did with Fukugawa and Hashimoto when they left.
Should be an interesting year for Nogizaka, I wonder if they'll start pushing 2nd and 3rd generation members in the senbatsu this year. They already had 3rd gen Oozono and Yoda as double centers for Nigemizu so I look forward to the formation of the 20th single.

Never heard of her. Seems like someone who just graduated from TSM or something, but it's not bad. Just a big amateurish. She could end up making cool stuff in the future.

Damn. I really liked it until the vocals started. He doesn't sound very comfortable singing. His falsetto even sounds uncomfortable.

ONE OK ROCK are doing the song for the new Honda commercial (Taka is doing the narration), and they'll release it digitally on February 16

Sounds like a pretty neat poppy tune, can't wait to hear the full version.

Oh shit, someone saw these flyers in the Saitama subway, looks like the telephones are coming back!

It's got their trademark mirror ball, the silhouettes are the same, and the date is Viva la Rock, big music festival held at the Saitama Super Arena. One of my favorite bands ever, looking forward to that!

Ichiro added that the album will be out this Spring so we won't have to wait that long

In other news, the Hiragana team of Keyakizaka46 will release an album this year. I wonder if this means they're building Hiragana Keyaki as their own thing, meaning Hiragana members will never join the main group.

It's the same guy, he just wears costumes all the time (and he's 100% Japanese)
Hahahahaha! No way! He had me fooled, especially when he dons the sunglasses and pretends to be a white dude.

That's awesome. I'm not really into that band, but I have newfound respect for that guy. Ever seen interviews with him about why he does it? I would bet he's quite funny.

Oh, it's even on the wiki.
  • Taiki(Gt/Cho/Clean Vo)
PHASE 2』以降はクリーンパートも務めることが多くなった。それに伴い、PVごとに衣装がガラリと変わるようになったのでよく注目を集めている。

They are なんちゃらラスベガス from now on.
