I give this show two more seasons. The best thing to do IMHO would be to finish up the Negan arc, get the crew on the road again and then introduce aliens.

I had stopped watching back in 2014 because I thought Terminus was going to end up being another Woodbury. I thought I had finished season 4, but there was another episode left of it which basically started season 5. I was mistaken because Terminus started and resolved in the span of 2 episodes. 5 was interesting. Gabriel, I don't know. I can't believe him as a preacher. If they found a black preacher down there in Georgia he'd have one of those preacher voices. He was way too soft spoken, but when he gunned down one of the Saviors in season 6 that shit was badass. I also was fully expecting Alexandria to be another Woodsbury as well with the congresswoman being Guvnor pt. 2, but I was wrong again.

Tyrese's death got me and they seemed to fuck with the viewer to make it seem like he was or wasn't going to die. I legit thought Glenn died in this season after old dude shot himself. That would've been a really lame ass way to go if he did. Glenn shou;d've killed that coward when he had the chance. Rick would've did that no question.

When I was on a break from watching this I was wondering if there was any semblance in the show or comics that world was going to get any better. It doesn't look like it. Still no sign of government agencies and it looks like the human race or at least everyone in the United States is going to be extinct and it's not because of the zombies. The people are what's doing it. Everyone is just killing each other and no one is having any babies. Judith is the only baby we've seen and the only children we've really seen are people that made it into Rick's group and they don't end up lasting long. If this shit keeps up there will be no one left.

Sadly yes. It happened in the episode when he was fighting walkers with Siddiq. Yep he's next, I'm hoping the mid season premiere will focus on him dying and saying goodbye to people.

Only just started watching this season and I just had to come here and say something.

I have actually enjoyed TWD up to this point, although between seasons I get bored of it but once I start watching it again I get into it.

This season however has pissed me off more then pretty much any other.

I have only watched the first two episodes but some of the characters decisions may have convinced me to stop watching altogether.

First they could have easily killed Negan when they were talking to him, just have a couple of people with guns aimed and just fucking shoot him, not waffle on and then manage to miss every damn shot at him.

Secondly the priest suddenly decides 'I'm gonna save this prick who turned on his whole community and then allow him to steal me car and leave me for dead. He should have put a bullet in him as soon as he had the chance, let alone once it became clear he was gonna screw him over.

Thirdly Jesus needs to die, like right now. I was there shouting at the TV when he suddenly decided:

'hey I know we are here to kill everyone but cause this guy pissed himself we can't do it.

Oh wait, he was a saviour and took us hostage, let's save him anyway afterwards for no fucking reason'

And finally the bullshit with that massive group of saviours outside and deciding to save them. It makes absolutely no sense.

I realise they are trying to portray Rick's 'kill first, ask questions later' approach as being too extreme but YOU ARE LIVING IN A FUCKING POST APOCALYPTIC WORLD WERE IT'S KILL OR BE KILLED!!!

How many times do we have to see this dream of going back to how the world was with people who are clearly going to fuck you over, kill you and your family and take all of your stuff before some characters actually learn?!

It's seriously terrible writing and as I said infuriates more than any show I can remember. It still has great moments in between but these stupid decisions has been making the good parts pointless.
Hell even Dexter s5-8 was OK for the most part if you could ignore how stupid the characters became but this is beyond ridiculous.

How is the rest of the season? Do things get better or will I get even more annoyed.

Judging by your complaints, you will probably get more annoyed... but the season also gets more entertaining, if that makes any sense. I have one episode left, and yes their are stupid moments aplenty to follow but like you said there are still great moments in between, and IMO that makes the season worth watching still.

Thanks for the response, in that case I will stick with it. Just need to remind myself to expect the occasional bullshit for certain characters.

The Walking Dead has been renewed for a 9th season.

Also, AMC has done the smart thing and ousted Scott Gimple as showrunner. He will be replaced by Angela Kang.

Hi res version of the officially released key art.

I want to stress "officially released" because of how incredibly and embarrassingly bad the zombie hands look.

Seriously, open that up to full size. It's so bad.
Looks like it was made in paint by a 10 year old.

She's been writing for the show since S2
Sure; and Scott Gimple was writing episodes since Season 2 as well. Both him and Kang became more prominent as the years wore on. I'm just pointing out it's not like someone super fresh is being brought on, it's someone integral to the story over the last 2 seasons in particular.

Ugh, the last thing I need is a 90 minute episode with Carl saying goodbye to everyone. He's dead, move on. Part of the reason the show drags is that, unlike game of thrones and early walking dead, they make a huge scene out of characters dying. Keep it moving.

Scott Gimple was the showrunner and the buck ultimately stopped with him. Angela Kang could have a wildly different vision of what she wants the show to be.

I binge watched what's aired of Season 8, and I liked it more than I have any Walking Dead season since The Governor. It's easier to ignore bad pacing and shoddy writing when it has no time to sit with you.
Killing off Carl is a welcome event in my eyes. The less I think these mainstays have plot-armor, the more interesting the show is.

The Walking Dead has always been a bad show, but it's easy to watch and has some entertaining moments here and there.

I really haven't missed this show at all during the break. The only time I've thought about it is when I've seen the timer on my PVR.

It's the same shit over and over and over again, and has gone quite a ways downhill. The Negan era needs to end.

I'm not going to drop it, or going to be able to because I'm not someone who can drop games or TV shows easily, 'specially after 8 years. But it's been tempting. I'd love to drop Fear, but the same thing applies.

Lauren Cohan (Maggie) might be moving on from the show - or she might just be renegotiating her contract:

Deadline said:
The first batches of offers for the 2018 broadcast pilots are out, and one surprising name has stood out, The Walking Dead star Lauren Cohan. The actress, who plays Maggie on the hit AMC zombie drama, has been very sought after with close to half-dozen offers so far.

The development may come as a shock to TWD fans because her character is alive and well on the show where death lurks around every corner. Cohan's contract is up at the end of TWD's current eighth season, making her available for new series.

There had been rumblings that Cohan had sought parity with her male co-stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus, who are paid significantly more than all of their female colleagues. I hear that was brought up early on but was not made a make-or-break requirement for Cohan to come back as she had joined the show later than Lincoln and Reedus who, on average, appear in more scenes than just about anyone else on the series. I hear AMC offered Cohan a modest salary increase in exchange for a long-term contract, which was rejected, a standard practice in talent re-negotiations.

What happened next is a little murky. I hear the network did not follow up with a new proposition and there have been no further talks. Cohan, who is contractually free and clear to entertain new offers, has been doing that, with her availability igniting a feeding frenzy in the form of a string of offers from multiple networks. She reportedly has been engaging, taking pilot meetings.

According to other sources close to the situation, there are active talks with Cohan who has not indicated that she would not be coming back for Season 9, which already has been greenlighted.

Apparently Chandler's dad is a massive pain in the ass for the production. From a blind item website:

Given his dad's reaction to him being killed off, I wouldn't doubt if he was a big reason for them to get rid of Chandler.

More at the link: http://blindgossip.com/?p=80518

This is cringe, he just comes off as money hungry. His reaction to this has been so childish, hasn't he noticed characters dying not only on TWD but on shows all over? If you're gonna be like this about it then don't have your kid audition. That is just a part of acting, he should turn his attitude around and be greatful that his kid could do something he loved and make so much money with it, 99% of kids don't get to do that.

Nah, that kid is definitely done. No way they go through all that trouble on screen and behind the scenes only to keep him alive.

Oh ffs, Reedus just squints and grunts, he barely talks. If the problem is she doesn't have as many scenes, WRITE HER MORE SCENES. I'm so sick of this bs. Pay women equally to their costars, at least to Reedus. I could understand Lincoln getting the most money because he's the main star.

Have they not figured out yet that people love Maggie and Carol? Pay them.

https://www.cbr.com/kirkman-walking-dead-carl-might-not-die/

So now Kirkman is teasing that Carl might not die on the show after all.
Chandler himself responded to a thread about this on Reddit. He wasn't having any of this.

this irked me, i really don't like misleading people like this.

been saying in interviews and to fans (got clearance to say specifically this on social media back before the episode came out) that the bite is fatal. there is more to this story to be played out, but that story will be resolved in 809.

hope that helps clear things up for you guys.
