Cool, I am into Techno, Deep House, and House with some dubstep and drum 'n' bass sprinkled on top. I am looking forward to this thread : )

Nice, happy to see this thread. Love electronic music so much! Have seen a lot of techno (and quite some house/techhouse) dj's the past 5 years. Recently got tinnitus with clubbing so I avoided clubs for a while. Went my first party again after 3 months of not going last week.
Saw L.S.D. (Luke Slater, Steve Bicknell and Function) and Multiples (Speedy J & Surgeon). Really awesome.

My recent favorite artists would be Perc, Truss, Luke Slater, Head Front Panel and Dax J currently (yeah I know, not original).

As a lot of you may be aware, each Friday online music stores/streaming services get new releases. I frequently visit Boomkat.com and Bleep to see whats out and then add to my library in Apple Music. I have purchased a few vinyl such as ones from the The Trilogy Tapes but i'm still lacking a turntable.

I've been listening to a compilation of the Peron label, called Superlongevity 6 and it's pretty fucking amazing. I've also listened to a Hyperdub compilation but it didn't really do much for me.

Where do you guys find new music? Electronic music doesn't seem to get much press compared to hip hop and rock, so most music I found was by scouring Youtube.

Resident Advisor is probably the greatest source of whats hot. They have album and EP reviews along with a nice clean site. And yeah, Boomkat is worth a trawl through. They have their own little reviews on things that may get you interested, or run away from the site, either way. Also checking record labels on Discogs is a great way of connecting some dots. Unfortunately more often than not very new releases tend to be missing on YouTube.

I hope to hear some more whispers about this new DJ Koze album that's on the horizon.

I'll be backpacking through Asia for half a year, leaving within a month. Looking for some cool (preferably 2017) electronic music. Mixes or albums. Genre doesn't matter, as long it isn't EDM. I already have Four Tet's, Bicep's, Deadmau5's and ROD's album. What are the gems I can't miss on my music player?

I'd love your thoughts on my last set I had. I spin a lot of lo-fi/deep/lounge house. I do deep house for after hour shows and warehouse style events but spin lo-fi/strut house in cafes and lounges.

Hey! First of all will be sure to follow this thread. I think I remember this being on the last forum but I didn't browse the site much outside of a couple of threads, so this is my first time posting in here.

That being said I just want people to know, to be completely clear, we definitely talk about underground music in the EDM thread. The better way I'd describe the thread is that discussion there is really loose - the range of music we speak about can often be the top end mainstream EDM, the most underground dance music, and also just electronic music that isn't even strictly "dance music". In other words we take the meaning of "electronic dance music" pretty literally. Don't get me wrong, having a separate thread for this area of electronic music is definitely important since it's a world in itself, but I hope that clears things up and that being the EDM thread doesn't stop you guys occasionally dropping in. Anyway thanks OP for including the link to our thread :)

I've been a bit booooored of techno, so this was a real shot in the arm for me.

Of things forthcoming, I've got Jimmy Lobster Theremin's debut LP - Tom Hang - To Be Held In A Non Position. It's two sides of a 12", two pieces of evolving ambience. Kind of reminds me of meditation in monasteries, where monks are smacked with a wooden stick to ensure they don't use the time to have a snooze, and they focus on the ring of a bell in the silence to concentrate their thoughts.

I've really been enjoying going through the Gost Zvuk stuff, especially the Ol album. LTTP and all that.

Looks like Firecracker have updated their Spotify. Some Linkwood remixes, the DJ Sport LP, Lord Of The Isles on there too. Great stuff.

Looking forward to the thread! I'm not a techno fan, but deep house is my thing.

I'm visiting a cousin in San Diego next month, going to catch this guy there, can't wait.

9 years have now passed since René Pawlowitz' debut album "Shedding The Past" appeared under his alias Shed on the Berghain label Ostgut Ton. Also on the Ostgut label 2 years later came the successor "The Traveler". Both albums have now been re-pressed.

René Pawlowitz himself brings them out on his own imprint TFE (The Final Experiment Recordings). Remastered, 180g vinyl, chic cover. Shedding The Past this time with all tracks which at that time partly appeared only on CD or vinyl.

In the spirit of sharing tracks, I maintain a few lists on Spotify for my own personal and sharing pleasure. I have put a loosely enforced rule in where I don't put massive clumps from a single artist in or whole releases. They're great for shuffle play as a result.

YouTube is a great place to learn from as you're most likely to find someone teaching you methods that would be within the sub-genre of your choosing. You'll be walked through the steps you need taken to build the kind a track but I do recommend reading the Ableton user manual so you have a clearer picture. Buy or *cough up* some sample packs as you'll need sounds to work with. Ripping sounds from YouTube is always a cool as idea although you'll need software that records system audio. Don't worry about buying extra plug-ins and shit until you've mastered the built in ones. Basically download Ableton, fuck about and have fun.
