just did this one, it's behind one of those movable blocks you jump from, it emits a pretty obvious light coming from the hole after the moving box moves

I ended up looking it up in that unendurable five minutes before you replied, but thanks. :)

Related:
The chapter menu makes it look like it's in the second part, and I looked all over there multiple times, but it's after the place that you start the third part if you select it. Boy, oh, boy.

finished up chapter 6 and started chapter 7

this game is great. every time I progress in this game I'm just like "man, that was great". after every section, every level, every strawberry, everything. the whole game is perfectly crafted. so many neat moments and gameplay twists. so many challenges where you'll be staring at the screen with seemingly no way to move forward and then you see the solution and it seemed so obvious in retrospect. gonna need some time to marinate on this game (and finish it too obviously) but man, this thing really made an impression on me. I'm still not gonna say that chapter 5 is one of the best platforming levels of all time but give it a week and I probably will.

Do you get anything for completing a bside? I've been banging my head for two hours at the end of chapter 2 bside and I'm about to give up :(

Just finished the game. 1990 deaths. Took about 10 hours. Would be a little less if I didn't do 2 of the B-Side levels.

Such a great game. I want to go for 100% but the rage will consume me, lol.

Crash in Chapter 5 by jumping into the spikes
just before Theo in the crystal
. Lost a bunch of progress, did it all again, accidentally jumped into the spikes again, crash. Swell.

God damn I've come across a jump that is so abnormally hard that I'd have to imagine when Matt tested it he somehow got that shit first try so he moved on, not realizing it's completely hellish. Feels like there's only a one-frame window to get it.
It's in chapter 5 C-side, you have to do a jump boost wall jump (a hidden mechanic taught to you in one of the b-sides) off a tiny block surrounded by spikes out of a red bubble that's moving diagonally downwards.

I gotta say one of my favorite tracks in this game is in Chapter 2 right after the mirror breaks. The BGM is so good. Track "Resurrections" in case you were wanting to know.

Yeah I think I'll leave the B-side levels until a free I complete the game. I completed the B-side for Chapter 3, only one I've unlocked, but at the cost of 1100 deaths lol. I'm not very good.

Just found the
PICO-8 In Chapter 3.

Ended up doing it all in one go. Pretty cool!

I'm not especially impressed by the music but everything else about this game is absolutely stupendous. Just finishing up Chapter 6 now.

I wish the map was a little better about telling you where you are in relation to a missing strawberry. Sometimes the dot is randomly red and I don't know why.

Red dot means you just re-collected that berry during the run you're on now, so re-collecting strawberries can help pinpoint the missing ones.

I just started this last night and what a game it is. I am having a lot of fun, but my hands hurt a lot.

I think I have put in about 3 hours and just got to the start of Chapter 4 (I have died so many times). There are parts of this game that at first glance just seem to be impossible (lots of levels in the
pico-8 version)
but the level design is perfect and when you finally get through these sections it feels great.

Don't have the slightest clue where the Ch5 Crystal Heart is. This is the first chapter for which I didn't even get a sniff. In Ch1 I found its location even if I didn't realize what it was at the time, lol.

Hint:
Conserve your key for later use by finding a hidden route.

This game is absolutely incredible. I had never heard of this game until the day of release, and I just randomly bought it off randomly seeing the artwork on here. I figured it would be another decent indie title that was a short experience. But this game is constantly subverting my expectations. The gameplay is soooo good. But the way the levels change, and how the games mechanics evolve. Whenever I was about to get comfortable and think this would just be the same thing over and over, the game takes a turn.

Legit, my fav gaming experience this year by a large mile (I know it's early on but still). The game also gets really challenging.

I found some sort of gold coin? Or disc or something in Chapter 7. No clue what it is. The game didn't make a big deal about it when I got it either

Yeah this is the only game to make my hands cramp in handheld mode but i guess it makes sense since it's a precise platformer.

Anyway that's mostly after a few hours wich then it's time to take a break anyway for me.

Chapter 7 spoiler
In each section of chapter 7 there is a gem. Collect them all and bring them to a certain place in the last section of chapter 7 to get a crystal heart.

Late, late game spoiler
The mad men added C-sides. I don't know if I'll be able to push through all of them. At the very least I am absolutely not going to do the golden strawberries.[/spoilers]

do you have to complete a level again once obtaining a heart or cassette or can you exit out at that point.

also does the game remember what strawberries you grabbed or do you have to redo each level for those too?

In that I know what I WANT to happen, but 'oops, wrong button' is invariably what happens.
What platform are you playing on? The lack of a proper d-pad on Switch sucks because it means you either play with the stick (which often causes unintentional diagonal dashes) or a bad d-pad. The rest of the controls are fine imo, and become intuitive pretty quickly. It's always a shame when you can't rebind anything though.

Made it through chapter 4 but I missed the cassette. Could anyone let me know where it's at in the level please?

My first post on Era, and than directly on one of the best games the last two years for me:)
Incredible music, top notch level design..and man..that story.
But i have to say..the lack of a prper d-pad, like many of you said, is really...argh!
A lot of my deaths are just because that the analog stick was so fine with the movements, that Madeline jumped to the right-upper corner instead just to the right. That was so frustrating.
But all in one: Just an incredible gaming experience for me!

The cling button throws me off sometimes, and my fingers get mixed up. Super Meat Boy was simpler in that respect, because he just stuck to walls.

I like it, though. The instant respawn and generous checkpointing system makes it easy to just breath, focus, and retry. And there is delight in dying due to my own butterfingers.

I find myself just holding the trigger down to sort of auto cling during some of the trickier bits, to reduce the work my brain is doing. And I find that the joystick feels a bit more natural than the d-pad, even though I sometimes miss a diagonal with it. ymmv

Auto cling wouldn't be good imo, since you often rely on falling for above and holding in the direction to make a jump, so clinging would ruin that. Maybe as a toggle option had been fine tho.

Yeh this is the first game that has been clamouring for a proper d-pad. Using the analogue stick results in sooooo many deaths due to diagonals not registering / registering at the wrong times, then I'd switch to the dpad buttons and they are straight up uncomfortable / painful to use. Had sections where I'd have to switch from one to the other in a split second just to progress. Certainly not the games fault though.

For the love of all that is pure Nintendo - make a joy con with a proper d-pad

Maybe it's some people's cup of tea but I was really not feeling the "inner demon" rooms in Chapter 5. Then when they added the
carrying Theo
obstacle at the end, I really wanted that chapter to end. A blip on an otherwise enjoyable set of challenges so far.
