The only time the platforming bothered me in VI was in the Ruins of Lost Time. Otherwise it was fine.

I started a nightmare run of Oath the other day and I'd forgotten way more of the earlier bosses than I'd thought.

So, is tomorrow the day that I could finally play Lacrimosa of Dana with a "correct" localization?

Seeing this in the upcoming Steam games hurts.

I remember in the delay they noted they'd be moving development of the PC port to another dev after the relocalization was released so I don't expect much news for a while.

Origin is the better game, but I kinda see the appeal in watching people
getting rekt by Dark Fact

NISA did a Twitch stream and go pretty in depth with the retranslation process. Nothing besides what we already know about the PC version is mentioned. They said they played through the Xseed translated titles of Ys during the process so hopefully more consistency with previous title references.

From what I've seen since the full launch, the new script is better than my initial impression - still maybe not ideal but it seems to be at least acceptable now. The new bugs, on the other hand... just NISA things.

Which stat is better against bosses in a nightmare run? Defense or HP

Just finished the Yunica playthrough in Origins. How different are the other ones? Completely different and necessary to the game or the same tower stuff but with different move set?

Same tower, different take on the story, different playstyles, different solutions to puzzles, bosses vary (some are unique, some come at different times, others are always the same).

If you are up for a replay Toal's route has the canon story with the true ending. He has a close range playstyle like Yunica, but a bit different. Fairly certain he also has the most unique bosses.

Im having lots of troubles with kiergaard in my Nightmare of YS8

I know that is supposed to be hard, but I hate how bosses feel like sponges, and that you had to grind a lot to not being underleveled against them, at least I remember that in Celceta it wasn't that terrible

I don't want to give up yet and start using potions and nuts, I want to beat the bosses without using them, but I'm Starting to get frustrated

You should really put that in a spoiler tag.

On my blind Nightmare run, I found that to be by far the most difficult boss in the game. I was also sort of screwed because I think I was underleveled for the fight but couldn't go back and grind - I ended up having to lower the difficulty.

My bad, I fucked up royally, I already fixed it, sorry for the mistake.

Today I finally defeated him, gladly I didn't needed to lower the difficulty or use potions, but I only defeated him with 1 surviving member at 1 hp. it was a real pain in the ass, I recorded the fight if anyone is interesteded in seeing it

I know that people criticize the newest games in the series for being easier thanks to the flash mechanics, but I feel that they are a godsend considering how harsh are the punishments from bosses and sometimes even the minions on the fieldmap. Now, I always start playing this games on nightmare, so maybe in normal the game is ridiculously easy thanks to the mechanics plus the abundance of potions. In the end, I enjoy it this way, people can have a good challenge with the right ruleset, and casuals could play it at their leisure.

Speaking on Nightmare runs, anyone has some tips to level up the characters? like you said, this boss was hard because when his event triggers, you are locked out in the map and you cant go grind anywhere, and overall the natural progression of the game makes things way harder if you don't grind a lot, so I don't know if there are good spots to make this not that tedious

So i just beat Origin (On PS Vita) for the first time playing as Yunica. It was my intention to skip the Hugo playthrough and jump into the third character....except it's not letting me do so.

I was under the impression i only needed to beat with Yunica OR Hugo to unlock the 3rd. What's going on? Any ideas?

You need to beat both to unlock him. That's what I had to do. Its worth doing anyway, I liked Hugo's story but the last character is for sure my favourite of the 3. Other than having a playstyle that I most enjoyed, the challenge was just right (on hard mode) and the exclusive bosses were really fun to fight. Plus it has some great moments that tie the story into Ys 1 and 2.

I can't seem to do the bosses on nightmare difficulty though (via the arena), guess I'll pass on that trophy for the time being. I really enjoyed the game but its time I play something else!

That's only true in the English PC version. In all Japanese versions and all English console versions, you need to finish with both Yunica and Hugo to unlock the 3rd character - and really, that's the way it should be. Don't worry too much, Hugo's playthrough will go quickly.

I don't know what led me down this rabbit hole of looking up the many Ys remixes, but I don't regret it one bit.

So I'm playing Ys7...

I'm not really feeling it. It just doesn't feel as satisfying to mow down enemies as in Oath and Origins, and the story side of things seems really boring. Also, no jump button? I can't Ys to this.

What's Ys8 like compared to this game?

It has jumping and while i don't care for the story i do think it's better than celceta. I can't remember anything story wise about seven.
I only wish it was shorter tbh.
I'm not finished as i just got it but so far it's the best in a while i feel.
Oh yeah, combat. I like it more than Seven & celceta.

I didn't like SEVEN much at first either but once I started to get the hang of flash guard and get more skills I found it pretty fun
Still not as good as Felghana or Origin but much better than my initial impression

Way back when, TG-16 CD, that first boot of the game with redbook audio and that opening cutscene. I was blown away. I packed up the system in that hard plastic carry case, ran over to my friends house and showed him. Also floored.

8 is a huge upgrade from Seven and Celceta in pretty much every way except maybe music. (Not a knock on 8's music, just that I really love Seven's.) The story is much better (one of the best in the series), the party members all actually get some proper development, combat is more polished than in Seven or Celceta, dungeon and world design is much more interesting (and with more verticality, since jumping is back alongside dodging), and bosses are the best since Origin.

I'm playing the Secret of Mana remake and the more I play it the more I wish Falcom did this remake cuz I cannot stand how much this games tries to 1:1 the SNES game while rocking these graphics...

Does Lacrimosa of Dana have some framerate drops in the PS4 PRO? I thought that the game has constant 60 fps, but in castaway village I see some nasty drops, and in some cutscenes too

So what was the final consensus on the Dana retranslation? Quality localization, or simply bringing what was garbage to a more acceptable level?

Finished the Hummel's egg side quest, wow, this must be one of my favorite dungeons ever, I really want to see more of this in future YS games. Reaching the final treasure was incredible satisfying

English is not my native language, so I can judge myself, but overall I feel that there is a big improvement with it. Like, I can't pick the dumb translation instantly, unlike the original localization where even I knew where they fucked up

Finally, I've been holding off on touching my Vita copy.

And my bets are on this definitely ending up ironed out before Ys VIII PC. I'm sure both will have their issues at launch but even if VIII releases first I don't see it being anywhere near as smooth going by it's tumultuous history just getting to the platform.

Don't get it twisted though, I'd love for April to prove me wrong lol.

Beat the first boss of Ys VII.

Man, even if I don't like this as much as the older games, the music keeps me going. Not that I think VII is bad, I just feel that Oath in Felghana and Origins are superior in the gameplay department. I also prefer using one character in Ys games, despite liking games that uses a party most of the time.

I first started this many years ago, but with a huge backlog, I stopped for some reason. I don't remember much from last time, so I decided to start over.

By first boss, do you mean the big frickin' turtle in the cave or the big frickin' beetle? It gets much better after that. Neither of those bosses are close to the best Seven can offer, though they're pretty fun. And your party characters take a while to become versatile and interesting, but they won't lag behind Adol for long.

I was talking about the turtle, but I have now beaten a few more characters. Elk was decent but Aisha seems to do really well in combat. I've been controlling here a lot in combat. I also managed to complete some side quests, but the collectible quests are a bit grating and I'd accuse them of killing the pace.

For VII I treated my time before a dungeon or before heading into a new area as upgrade time then I just chugged in forward. It was a similar pace to the older games as I tended to play that way because of nightmare

I've got the five seals of the dragons. Not surprised at the events that followed. Now, let's see how to get out of this messy situation.

Mostly been using Aisha, Adol and Dogi.
These three complement each other well, in my opinion. I use the other characters for some variety, but ultimately, a team of those three, is the best setup for me.

I want to get Ys VIII because everyone keeps telling me how awesome it is, never played Ys before. Should I get it for PS4 or wait for Switch? Is there any extra content or changes only Switch will have?

Someone kept bringing up that some or all of the VITA only DLC will make it to the Switch port. Was there ever any truth or source for that belief?
