You would be surprised. Right after college, my first job was in IT for the Federal Railroad Administration - dealing with accident/violation data all day everyday. Rail crossing accidents happen mostly due to no signals/malfunctioning signals, and people trying to BEAT THE TRAIN. I've seen videos of people weaving through the crossing gates on motorbikes just so they don't have to wait on the train.
Seems like one of the truck drivers is dead and the other seriously injured. Shame. Glad nobody on the train was hurt as well though.
Also part of the job was dealing with investigation data, including scene photos. I made the mistake of actually opening some of the files and immediately regretted it. Train accidents are the most gruesome.
Sounds like the security is pretty flawed if you can "weave through the gate". =x
My condolences to the deceased and the injured. Hopefully they are healed quickly.
No you didn't. You expressly made a joke that the train they were traveling on killed a blue collar working man.
There's not a lot you can do really about that. the gates are just gate arms that descent at a crossing. you can simply just go around and between it still - you can't completely block it off.
I said "just about". Look at the posts before mine. Nowhere did anything indicate that anyone was injured or dead. The posts before mine said "everyone is ok".

Maybe don't make shitty posts like that if you aren't sure there are any fatalities. Or just don't make them.

Absolutely horrible. It's terrible that someone lost their life. I hope their family can cope well with this. I also hope that everyone there recovers.

A progressive Facebook group I'm a member of is full of even more tasteless posts. Tbf there is a lot of pushback against it there, but goddamn that group has turned toxic the last couple of years.
Only took this place a couple of weeks.
That was the first post, at that point it was reported there was no injuries.
It is okay to express regret and condolences for the truck drivers while acknowledging the irony of a train full of GOP crashing into a garbage truck. That doesn't mean people don't give a shit about the truck drivers or that they wish the GOP members were harmed.

I give absolutely 0 fucks for someone like Mitch McConnell. I'm all for saving good people, but a person playing games with the reproductive rights of women, trying to fuck over the working class people, deport people and has no problem trying to screw people out of health care is not a person worth me being concerned for.
Where I live it is often pretty closed up in my opinion. Also means that you can't get away from the rails once you are on top of them if it is closed. It often has a fence and the arms close completely in the middle with stuff hanging to the floor, etc. .
I would use these on both sides but a lot of crossings often only have one side as you mentioned. But most wouldn't drive around them I would imagine.
The replies are distasteful. For sure. The GOP is passing legislation that will kill more people than words on a bulletin board ever will. I can see why it's a polarizing issue with that in mind.
With that said, it's against the rules of the forum to wish people dead. So that should be the end of it, here.

Yeah. Most of the first replies to this thread was not aware of anyone being hurt or killed, hence the snide remarks but then the holier than thou posts came out after the fact. Everyone here just need to chill out. I hope those critically injured recovers. Horrible thing to have happened.
Aim to save everyone, not just those you already view favorably. Positive interactions will have positive influences and vice versa.
There is no humor in this situation. Just tastelessness and a tragic story. Be there wouldn't have been humor if this was a democratic train.
