Wonder how many of those who say reviews and sales aren't indicative at all then go and celebrate their favorite games for when they're reviewed well and selling well, lol. Maybe some of them really don't care about those numbers at all - fair enough -, but let's be real, many only don't care when it doesn't suit their argument.

That's the worst part. They celebrate the good reception of their favorite games. But when a game they don't like gets praise, then all metrics are wrong or invalid. And then come the excuses. "It was because of brand name", "reviewers had pity", "they were bought", "they know nothing of the genre" or the popular "I don't care about reviews and sales".

It's like clockwork.

I mean, here's the deal. Fans who liked the game very usually acknowledge its flaws. Personally I haven't seen anyone "blindly" praising the game while ignoring the lacking aspects. Koozek, Bazztek, Malik, Ishiro, Sanji and me for example (just to name a few) have always been aware of the shortcomings of this project. But we are of the mind that in the end the game shines through its flaws. Not that they don't exist, but that the game is good despite them.

We have the other side of the coin with people who hate it. And their argument most of the time is "shit game with zero redeemable features. Tabata is a hack and should not be allowed to direct again", or the usual disingenuous "Why the praise?".

They know full well why there is praise. They just can't tolerate being part of a minority of opinion. That pisses them off.
Yeah, I mean, I still have tons of issues and could write pages about what improvements and QoL changes I think the game needs or would benefit highly from, and more recently I made it clear how much I disliked the alternative ending stuff in Episode Ignis and that I don't like the fact that main story changes are locked behind the Royal Pack appparently (still waiting for clarification), but in the end I still enjoyed the game a lot despite the glaring flaws and you can feel a lot of love from the team in it. Last year FFXV has definitely been something like my "comfort food" that I popped in, running around and grinding, while listening to podcasts or music. I often don't touch games at all anymore after I finished them once, so this is rare for me to come back to it so often. So yeah, there's something about it that I very much like. It's not a masterpiece and I would even argue that it's not necessarily great at most things it does, but it's still decent to good with some great moments. Funnily, that's almost exactly what I predicted a few months before release:
Koozek said:
We should all just expect a fun, good to great game, not a groundbreaking masterpiece of the genre. This is more or less SE's catching up to modern, AAA RPG development and genre conventions/expectations set by TW3 & Co. An absolutely needed step into the right direction and a good foundation for the series' future to build upon.

Better to have healthy expectations. And this is coming from me, who's never hyped a game this much for so long :D

The PC benchmark is today? I really need to upgrade my toaster.
I hope it is kind to mid-range systems. Hoping for 1080p-30 on my i5/gtx1050. Probably not, though. I've managed this at medium settings for most new games. I guess we'll find out. If it runs favorably then I might consider getting the PC version early. If not, I'm sticking to upgrading PS4 version to Royal Edition.

I really wonder about the re-reviews for FFXV's PC version and how they'll compare to the launch. Would've been perfect to have all the planned main story updates ready for this re-release, but I assume they just had too much on their plate already in the last year to get all of the story updates done until this March. Tbh, I could also see the new scores be worse now after the highly-acclaimed open-world games that came out last year.

I think it will review well unless it's a shitty port. PC users will absolutely destroy it if it's not well optimized.

Yeah, I wouldn't plan on the extra Nvidia stuff, just medium settings without those extras. We will see. Simply a solid 1080p30 would be an improvement in visual clarity from the base PS4 (which I have). The game is huge, though, and I have not played any open world games on this rig yet.

Maybe. But there are people who don't visit the OT here that I feel like would be missing out on something so heartfelt as that.

Sometimes it's better not to engage the haters. It's pointless, really.

Didn't see this posted (slightly NSFW due to Cindy boobs):

Honestly... I thought the Noctis one was funnier... :sweat smile:

Yeah, most of the time it's not worth it anymore. I'll still post some of the stuff anyway since I know there are other people than the ones I replied to reading them that didn't know before and might become a bit more understanding.

Thank you for all you do.

I think we all acknowledge that XV has flaws. Those flaws vary depending on what you want from your games, but being asked to spell it out in every thread exactly what we don't like is exhausting and turns the conversation toxic and negative quickly. I feel if those that didn't like the game acknowledged what they liked about the game I think a more productive conversation could be had. Alas.

Edit: No more making threads for me. Should just leave it to Koozek. ^_^'

The japanese site posted the patchnotes for the january update and it's different from what we thought it would be.
http://www.finalfantasy.jp/ffxvuniverse/information/category/game/12_1.php

Google translate:
Update contents

- It corresponds to the new DLC FFXV ROYAL pack.
- Character illustration was added.
- Awarded works of the 4th snapshot contest were exhibited at restaurants in Gardena Watchingfield.
- A new quest was added to CHAPTER10.
- Various defects were corrected.

Maybe the update they accidentally posted on the western site is for the february update?

Wait a quest in chapter 10? Character illustration was added? Like profiles for the characters now? Seems odd though since the previously listed update patch notes mentioend the conclusion to the assasins festival. It's already February here and I just checked on PS4 for an update and says I'm still on latest version.

Looking at the alternative translations "Character illustration" seems to mean a datalog like in comrades.
And yeah, it's weird that this doesn't mention the Assasins Festival, maybe the japanese team got the wrong patchnotes for this month and the previous notes were correct? Adding Royal Pack compatibility would fit better in next month update anyway closer to the DLCs launch.
I guess we just have to wait until it finally drops.

Looking at past Patch notes on the JP site, it seems they only put in their notes what is being added rather than what is being removed.

But could be entirely possible this could be February's Patch Notes.

Xenoblade fans tho, have been ravenous in their negativity lately.

Idk, with Persona 5 in particular I've had the impression that a lot of the dedicated fandom out there had a hostile take on FFXV, especially post-release.

Obviously not all of them are like that, but it gets exausting seeing the two of them pit against each other (or in this case XV being the punching bag for P5).

Xenoblade fans tho, have been ravenous in their negativity lately.

I wish they could understand that purposly kicking down other games in order to make theirs look flawless is petty & needlessly toxic...

Persona 5 has always been baffling to me because a ton of people seem to HATE it, but god forbid you talk shit about it. Also most of those people I've run into never played the first one so fuck em.

P5 fans are a special bunch, they call themselves fans but they bash the game as hard as they can for being too long or not being like 3/4 or I don't know.
I have to be honest. Persona 5 is a very weird case for me. It took me fucking 180 hours for my playthrough. The first 20 hours I was super positive, at 40 hours I actually had to return it back to my buddy again, but I thought I wouldn't finish it anyway since it started to drag and the thought that it's another 60 hours or so turned me off hard. Somehow I decided to continue a few weeks later. Never was I so conflicted while playing a game. I alternated between "Aw nah, it's a great game actually" and "Uggghhh, this is such a drag, fuck the dungeons, way too much redundant dialog etc." every 20 hours or so. In the end I felt it was waaay too long and they should've cut the last 3 dungeons. The whole last stretch with its twists and the end boss soured me completely. I'm so tired of that trope in JRPGs.

I can't blame anyone for thinking this game is a slog, honestly. But OTOH it's strange because somehow I clearly still enjoyed it enough to play it for 180 hours which is the longest I EVER played a game on my first playthrough in my whole life. But maybe I just forced myself because I already put so much into it and just wanted to get it over with. Ehhh, I don't know. In the end I didn't even feel like putting it in my ERA GOTY list.

If Persona 6 isn't a, let's say, 50 hours main story game, I'm not gonna play it. There is no good reason why P5's story had to be so long. So much fat that could've been trimmed without losing anything thematically. Brevity, folks. Brevity.

Yeah, no one in their right mind will ever say that making P5 a 100+ hour game was a good idea. Things were supposed to be streamlined with the new generation, not stretched out even longer than the games that came before! Still, it was an incredible game with many hype af moments, but, eh... I won't be replaying it any time soon.

Speaking of replaying, where's my updated Royal Pack price at, SE??

Heh, they removed the patchnotes on the JP site again, guess the japanese pr team didn't want to leave all the fun of leaking stuff to their western colleagues and tried to one-up them.

Man, that was a slog. I've owned the Deluxe Edition of the game for a little over a year but only recently installed it and started it (recently like "October" or so). I ended up getting really involved in some other games and shelved it temporarily, not even making it out of the first chapter. With the Assassin's Festival ending though, I decided to boot it up and run through the Festival so I wouldn't miss out. I already can't get the cool-looking Assassin robes because I didn't participate in the Moogle Chocobo Carnival to get the Dream Egg; I didn't want to miss anything else.
It's a good thing I planned on staying up all night in preparation for a transition to night shift this weekend because it took me about six hours to feel like I completed it. I purchased or won everything but the Big Master Typhon lure, and I completed all side quests except the Shady Dealings quest (I didn't feel like killing another 20 and then 99 more enemies for their drops).

At least I got it all. The Medjay outfit is so lame-looking that I question why it was so important to me though. At least this Medjay shield seems like a good equip for my Level 2 Gladiolus.

It's cool that the patch is out and all but I'm eagerly waiting for the PC Benchmark that's coming out later today since I really want to do a new playthrough on PC instead of on my PS4 when the Royal Edition comes around. (Plus I want that mod support so much.)

Hoping my PC can handle it since GPU prices have been really killing me lately with upgrading and not being able to do that. :X

At camp you can now change between night time and daytime and it's pretty instant so that's nice. Aranea fight is fun and actually has a bit more challenge than the main story one when you get the final trial since you lose the fight if you are knocked into danger state even once, which she can do in a single hit even if you're at level 99.

Looks like they also fixed that Ignis's hair is now disheveled in the main game now after you unlock it from ep Ignis.

Cindy's truck in Chapter 10
So maybe we're going down to town area of Cartanica?

I just tested it myself, Gladio still feels the fastest to switch to but they still have the slight animation they do before you gain control of them. Did notice there was some new banter too. Like I was around the area with Coeurls and Ignis now says that when you see a Coeurls sitting down then don't attack it becausey you'll die, I never heard that dialog before so I don't know if that was new, but there was some other dialog too.

  • Technically falls under #1 and #2, but loads of new end battle quotes. Prompto even has a new version of the ff victory theme, with the bros reacting in a different way. Surprised by the variety of added voicework in this update.

  • NO SERIOUSLY, new banter. Ignis hums (followed by prompto being super confused by it) (theres also one where Ignis tells noct that he needs to clean his face b/c there is mud on it, and noct basically goes 'you too' (paraphrasing, he doesn't actually say "you too"). )
Loving that. Need to see that new Ifrit model.

idk the starscorge marks was obvious on his old design, if less extreme.

Such an unnecessary change. I think I prefer the old design but I need to see it in motion before judging.

He already had some markings where the corruption is now. Was that supposed to be the starscourge from the start? Ehhh. I don't know if I like it, but at least now I wouldn't think that I'm fighting him just because he's an asshole.
