The next Assassin's Creed game will be called Assassin's Creed Dynasty, claims an employee working on the game's animation at Technicolor.

Speaking exclusively to PlayStation Universe, our source works at Technicolor based in Bangalore on the animation team and claims he is working on the new Assassin's Creed instalment right now.

Technicolor's animation team have worked on many big games in the past, including the FIFA, Call of Duty and Resident Evil franchises. We've done a bit of digging too, and know that Technicolor has also worked with Ubisoft in the past, and indeed most of the gaming powerhouses.
Now, the word 'Dynasty' is pretty much synonymous with China, and with so many different eras to choose from Ubisoft is spoilt for choice.
Ubisoft has touched on this era in the past with Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China. The platforming game was set in 1526 with the Ming Dynasty starting to crumble, and players took the role of Shao Jun, an Assassin of the Chinese Brotherhood.

In another strange coincidence, Ubisoft also created a short animation film called Assassin's Creed Embers in 2014 which featured none other than Shao Jun, who was Ezio's only protégé and student.

Putting this all together, we can make assumptions in saying that Assassin's Creed Dynasty (still unconfirmed, and could be an internal code name like Empire was for Origins) could feature Shao Jun, and could be set in the Ming Dynasty period.

So 2020/2021 for the next Assassin's Creed? Well I hope. Spreading out releases for AC is one of the best things Ubisoft can do.

Would this game be set for a 2018 release or would it be 2019 to go with Ubi saying they will spend more time on each entry?

I'm sure Ubi has like 85 teams so this could be like 5 teams that didn't already work on other projects/Origins, but hmm...

Back to yearly releases?
I hope not. AC:O was excellent because they had the time to create a massive world dense with quality story moments. Turning out another game of that scale in a year is going to create a compromised product.

I also hoped that Watch Dogs 3 might hit this year, allowing those two to get on an alternating schedule.

Been waiting for this. Forbidden Palace, Great Wall, picturesque locales like in my wuxia flicks, cool chinese weapons, french accents coming from chinese peeps.

AC games are usually end of October, but they're not going dare to go up against RDR2 are they?

Was kinda hoping for a direct sequel with Bayek in Northern Africa, but if it's a new game set in Three Kingdoms-era China, then I'm down.

I hope they remove the RPG bullshit that was in Origins. As much i enjoy Origins, it got old and kind of boring so fast. I love my yearly Assassins Creeds. I'm hoping for a Syndicate vibe at least.

If this is true, and its set in China...it will be the first AC game i'd been interested in, in a long time.

I think moving straight back to the yearly entries is a mistake. I get the thought process behind having a major hit every year, but I still think they could probably get better bang for their buck sticking to bi-yearly entries and instead supporting the previous game for an extra year of DLC between games.

But here we are

If it's Japan, I will buy two copies.

Also this doesn't mean its releasing this year. Origins was leaked almost two years before it came out.

Hopefully they dial back the open world and RPG aspects. ACO was a massive overcorrection. Its too big.

Also get rid of the fucking level gating.

Also the word Dynasty is also closely associated with Ancient Egypt as well, no guarantee that its China.

I hope this is true. Thought we'd be getting a Bayek sequel but the time jump in the Hidden Ones DLC makes me think they aren't going to do that (though I didn't play it yet so maybe they set up for more Bayek/Aya stories).

Assassin's Creed Dynasty is a better name than Origins was IMO.

Would also like to see how a game of this ilk would be like in China, especially in the era that the article speculates.

This year is interesting too.

As long as it's not Europe.
While Rome looked dope in Origins, I don't wanna go to Europe anymore

They do set it up. And honestly I wouldn't want another team to tackle that story. Give 2/3 years to Ismail's team to release it, and make another filler game in between.

As this is probably made by the Unity team I expect trash. Prettiness, but trash still.

The reasons to support this being China-based are flimsy at best, especially hooking on to the "dynasty" aspect. Dynasties are also synonymous with Ancient Egypt, don't forget. This is very likely to be a sequel to Origins instead.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a game set in China but I see this being Bayek's next game instead.

I hope not. Dialing back the open world would turn me back into no buy AC games.

Origins is the only AC I truly enjoyed.

China would be a logical step for a new game, and Asia has gone pretty much untouched in AC. After Origins, I'd like to see what Ubisoft would do with that type of setting.

My only problem with the game going for this setting is I can't name a single historical Chinese figure. A big aspect of the game is meeting with historical figures. So far the games have been in pretty well known settings so most people know the context of the historical figures. I don't think as many people know about Chinese history.

The fact they are working on it right now does not mean it will come this year. Wasn't the plan to alternate with Watch Dogs every other year?

2018: Watch Dogs 3
2019: AC Dynasty
2020: Watch Dogs 4

etc.

Well nothing suggests it's a 2018 game. I hope not. Let Origins breathe. Saying that, if this is China or Japan or anything from that area or era count me in day one. I wanted to love Shao Jun and ACC but she was in a bad game.
