I wonder why it took them so long to do so, and what happens to 1080p modes that do different things from the 4K mode?

It appears to be a toggle, so you can disable it if you want to play in 1080p mode, just like those playing on 4K displays can set their res as 1080p to play in that mode.

awesome although the lack of it never bothered me personally.

Off topic: My phone keyboard acts weird only on Era, for example pressing space adds a random letter atathe end of the words and autocorrect activate despite being off byb default. I havehto make micro adjustments all the time. onlyo on Era though, am I the only one?

ImI using Swift keyboard btw.

Those modes are usually 1080p with enhanced graphics /framerate so Supersampling doesn't exist .Supersampling comes to play whenever the resolution output By console is higher than your tv .

Good, should have been in from the start. Competition made them do it at least.

Hmm, can someone please explain to me what this means?
Like, if i play a older game with this in a 1080p tv, it will downsample because it will render in a high resolution?

Nothing? Supersampling just kicks in when you're running a resolution higher than 1080p on a 1080p TV. Games that have 1080p Pro modes will function the exact same as now.

but certain 1080p modes only kick in when the 1080p output is selected in the PS4 output menu. If your running a 1080p TV, the 1080p output of the console is automatically set because the TV can't run the 4K output option right?

Mt. Whatever
Not for my Pro since I've got a 4K set, but nice that it's finally there.

I hope they realize how this looks, only implementing such a basic feature after the Scorpio comes out.

So many misinformed people in this thread.

Supersampling only works with a Pro patched game that has a higher resolution than 1080p. So no, it doesn't work with Bloodborne, since that game has no Pro patch nor it runs higher than 1080p.

Really happy for pro owners, I just wished this happened at around/shortly after the pro's launch as it would've nudged me to purchase it over the slim instead :D (it was hard to know if it was even possible to implement such a feature via software, did sony ever mention it was coming?), but I'll stick with what I have until whatever comes next I suppose.

Here's hoping next gen machines/whatever console iteration comes next takes all these performance upgrades into account (if they have backwards compatibility for this gen). Looking forward to DF's analysis!

Heh, basically both 1080p and 4K display owners have the option now between switching between both modes for any game whereas previously on the latter had the choice to do so:

4K display owners
-To play in 4K mode, keep display resolution in settings set at 4K
-To play in 1080p mode, set display resolution in settings at 1080p

1080p display owners
-To play in 4K mode, set the new supersampling option on in system settings
-To play in 1080p mode, set the new supersampling option off in system settings

Note - This only applies to games without any setting options in game.

So, does that mean that Persona 5 can run up to (upscaled) 4K for 4KTV users now?

No, P5 does not have a pro patch nor does it go beyond 1080p. Games without pro patches are entirely unaffected by this. Your 4K TV is already "upscaling" all standard HD content to the 4K screen by itself.

It says in the screen grab - results vary per game and that image quality may not improve. So I guess the answer is nothing!

About time Sony. I only have a 1080 tv so this news is welcome. Everybody Golf gonna look great super sampled. I assume this means that 1080p users are no longer locked out of choosing the 4K modes in the games?

Knew this was coming eventually after the 1X. How this wasn't a launch feature is beyond me.
