Penguin was interested in doing another meetup before the end of the year so here's another poll to gather availability and gauge interest:
https://doodle.com/poll/bfpxn5p2knps49ww

If we do another meetup before the end of the year I recommend we start off at Sony Square first (followed by a bar or food place nearby). They're hosting "Experience Playstation" until January, showcasing a couple of 2018 titles. I spent about two hours there earlier today.

Games include:
  • Monster Hunter World
  • Dissidia
  • Necrosphere
  • Gran Turismo (racing car chairs - vroom vroom!)
  • Swords of Ditto
  • Knack 2 (lol)
  • Everybody's Golf
  • Moss (VR)
  • Starchild (VR) - demo was like, 4 mins long.
  • Farpoint (VR)

Impressions:
  • Farpoint and Moss make me want to buy a VR helmet.
  • Completely sold on getting Monster Hunter World.
  • I continue to have no clue how Dissidia's combat works.
  • I got sucked into Necrosphere a bit too much.

For anyone who hasn't been, the place is on 25th and Madison and is extremely chill and doesn't cost anything. Makes for a super cheap date if you want to show that special someone how far video games have come.

Oh shit, this is like 4 blocks from where I work.

If I have downtime over these next few days, might pop out for an hour during lunch. Check out some Moss or Monster Hunter.

Is there still any interest in DnD? I got some DM experience under my belt, would like to keep doing it. If location is still a problem, could prob use my apt.

I'm gamed to learn, and I think some folks said that the place under Alamo is spacious and Trader Joe's right there?

I miss going to DNA Info regularly. It was the only website where I could get news about stuff happening in my neighborhood. Going to NY1/Spectrum News and Daily News isn't the same as it doesn't fill the void left by DNA Info/Gothamist. :(

I'm still down for DnD but the holidays are going to make it a bitch to schedule anything. I heard that a board game cafe opened up near Woodside recently but that's a bit of a trek. The Brooklyn Strategist would also be a solid place to host a DnD game.

I also have a beer book that I desperately need help using up because the coupons expire next month. If anyone looking for an excuse to go Williamsburg/Greenpoint in the next 3 weeks or so, do let me know. I'll be more than happy to give them away just so it doesn't go to waste.

I mean, Strand Smokehouse in Astoria would probably work for it, but it'd be a bit of a trek for most of you.

Anyone else at the parade? Currently freezing my buns off at Central Park West.
I've never been to it but a girl I'm seeing this weekend has been to it a bunch of times. She said the best strategy is to keep moving with the parade to see everything.

Good luck out there and be sure to share some pics! I heard there's no backpacks allowed inside the parade. I'll probably watch a bit of it from the comfort of my living room or bedroom TV.

MTA stays winning, Brooklynites stay losing. Just terrible all around for anyone who lives on the R.

If anyone is interested, tomorrow is the 18th Winter's Eve at Lincoln Square event. I'm going to be volunteering under Processional Arts Workshop and helping man a 3-person puppet which should be quite fun engaging with the crowd. It runs from 5:30pm-9pm and is a public event. I hope to see some peeps there. Details can be found here: http://www.winterseve.nyc/

G train down from Williamsburg to Prospect.... Oh there's construction and I gotta get off and use a free shuttle bus to a stop over a mile away. OK. Get to the Jay street station and you have to sit by yourself in a subway tunnel for 12 minutes at 4something AM waiting for a train that's not the G train. Get home an hour+ later than you expected.
God damn the subways. At least I saved $10 by not calling an uber?

I had this exact same thing happen to me on the G train Friday night, it was a fucking disaster. I ended up walking 40 minutes home.

This thread has been dead for weeks given the focus upcoming meet up and the Discord chat so I wanted to pop in here and say happy holidays to the rest of you folks here. The Rockefeller Center is usually the thing to do but everyone has their traditions. Hopefully this thread gets popping again soon because it ain't what it used to be.

Gonna hit up NYC for 3 nights just after New Years. Staying about 10 blocks south of central park. Any recommendations for can't-miss food or night life is appreciated.

Also, pretty sure I'm gonna freeze to death coming from Texas. Currently trying to figure out what kind of shoes to wear, since I wear Chucks year round down here.

Is there anything you're particularly hankering for? Because there's just a ton of stuff to recommend.

Since you're in midtown...
Best tacos: Los Tacos No. 1 (There's a location in Times Square)
Best ramen: Totto Ramen

There's a few locations of Shake Shack you can try to hit up. (There's one in Grand Central and another by Times Square)
There's Urbanspace Vanderbilt, a food hall where you can get Roberta's pizza.

Appreciate it, ramen sounds so good with this current cold and wet weather. The taco shop being close to the 9/11 memorial area will work out well too.

We've got shake shake here in Dallas, but if there are any other NY-centric burger places, I'd be down. Otherwise, ideas for non-touristy New York style pizza would be appreciated.

In terms of night life, jazz clubs, interesting bars, or other unique joints are cool. Not really into the dance club scene.

So I am thinking of moving back to NYC.

I got a job offer for double my salary and in a really cool position where I'd have a lot of opportunity to design future facing operational processes.

The job start in September but I only have a month to decide about the interview.

I guess nothing right?

It's just I loved NYC it just wasn't the right time for me last time I was there. I guess I just don't want to get my hopes up on moving back to NYC and then get stuck staying in Cali, haha.

Both are good places to be!

It sounds like a sweet opportunity.

I'm not sure what designing future facing operational processes refers to but ok. A single guy living with an above average salary in NYC would be more than ideal. I hope you like the cold though. I notice a pattern where Californians have been moving to NY and vice versa.

Why are traffic lights perfectly the exact length of time that it takes me to walk one block and get stopped at the next one? If they were 10 seconds longer, I would get everywhere 10 minutes faster.

I think the following have been mentioned at some point:
  • Board Games - at either an actual board game shop (Hex, etc) or Whole Foods (so we can bring in beer / snacks) or renting that room at Stone Creek.
  • DnD Night
  • Nintendo Switch Night
  • Tekken Movie Night
  • Have shots at the Continental before it closes
  • Indoor rock climbing
  • Laser Tag in Long Island City
  • Park or BYOF bar potluck
  • Cheap drinks at White Horse Tarvern
  • Finding love at Union Pool (plus bonus trip to Action Burger)
  • Dekalb Market snacks / food / drinks + Alamo Drafthouse movie
  • Drinks at Radegast Hall & Biergarten
  • Whole Foods rooftop bar in Gowanus
  • Splitting a box of wine

Action Burger! I miss their booth at NYCC. They handed out these really terribly designed flyers and cards. It's like "The Room" of pamphlets.

Edit: Kanik and Phil should do this:

Oh don't forget that bar in DUMBO that has like the self-pouring beers

Splitting a box of wine between two people without any food: a terrible mistake
Splitting a box of wine between several people and food: a happy little accident

Also forgot to add poker night because everyone loves poker and poker leads to making good decisions. Then again, I suppose DnD is like playing poker give or take sans the narrative context.
