NORDFRIESLAND, DEUTSCHLAND
I always wonder why Gorement never went on to produce more albums? The band members haven't been in any bands since from what I last remember. I find it really intriguing about this thought process, was that their whole plan?

Same goes for Vinterland. I posted about both these bands in that thread a while ago about what is your favourite artist/band that only produced one full-length album.

What are bands you know of that only produced one fantastic full-length album?

2 for 2 on OSDM early on this page. Very nice. Both of Gorement and Convulse are fucking fantastic and those records have also been reissued somewhat recently. As for Finnish death metal, it has always been an incredibly dark and crushing style, like Europe's own New York counterpart. Love that shit.

The Land
That feel when you see 9 left on Bandcamp, make the buy, and see 8 left...lol Finally picking up that Wode debut on CD. Was just clicking around and saw it was there for a decent price. Also came across this power metal CD I snagged too. Says its a vinyl effect which I'd never heard of. The cover art is what really sold me though. I love the line "Revenge is a dish best served ...eternally!". Pretty cheesy cover otherwise but it reminds me of an old Castlevania or something from the NES days. Music isn't bad but I'm in for the cover lol.

And finally, Gygax is back with more dungeons and dragons tunes. This doesn't come out until March but its tempting to go ahead and order. I loved their first.

The vox for Dream Troll are killer. I've never heard of them, and going in I had low expectations because I checked out Gygax first.

As soon as the vox kicked in, I was surprised. Very cool. Top tier classic metal sound with something new to say.

Two of my favorites

Awaiting The Autopsy had exceptionally catchy writing as far as slam goes, and I really like the mix of vocal styles. Meanwhile Slaughterbox are cartoonish levels of bullshit that goes all the way around to be worthwhile (versus most bands attempting that sort of thing like Brain Drill or something, bleh)

Miasma (AUT) - Changes
this is easily one of my favorite OSDM albums. Truly morbid vocal delivery, production is in your face and constantly pounding, killer songs and riffs.

Infester (WA) - To the Depths, in Degradation
a masterpiece of dark death metal that has rightfully been reissued in the past few years.

Demilich (FIN) - Nespithe
this album pretty much redefined my expectations of what OSDM was capable of in terms of technicality. A mind-bending album in so many ways.

Tried to hit Death's older discography today at work and didn't care for the vocals.

I am gonna pick up their last album though. I'm pretty well in love with that un.

These are 2 amazing death metal albums. Elevenefris In particular is one of my favorite albums.

A couple amazing singles releases from black metal are Silencer - Death Pierce Me and Weakling - Dead as Dreams.

good call on both, and Weakling in particular is a real headscratcher. Easily one of the most influential black metal records of all time, and they peace out after one? I suppose it adds to its legend, but another would have been way nice. My own black metal contributions for the subject:

S.V.E.S.T. (FRA) - Urfaust
Bekhira (FRA) - L'élu du mal
Altar of Perversion (ITA) - From Dead Temples (Towards the Ast'ral Path)

I'm not one to usually pay attention to lyrics, but since I've started buying physical again I get the lyrics right there to look at like I used to years ago. So I've been paying a bit more attention and this Origin debut is weird. The vocals have a very difficult cadence to follow and you can't really look away from the lyrics without completely losing your place. Words get half barked and then a string get said in rapid succession. It's actually pretty cool in delivery.

Song of the Day

One of my favorite Death Metal releases in the last few years. The soaring riffs that guitar tone provides are amazing. There's crossover here with Mithras and you can definitely hear it.

why hello thar. I can hear it a little bit, mainly when it goes off the rails in that high dissonance, but also when it goes into the low key gloom. The black metal is certainly there, and it's actually pretty avant-garde. Honestly I think they cover the same sound space as, say, Impetuous Ritual or Chaos Echoes but with more obvious black metal leanings. Either way thanks for this, definitely another cool release by Caligari.

edit:

I feel like I should mention this too, since Arizmenda was noted. On the big BTC comp, there is a single contribution from a project called In Lakech Ala Kin, and their track is very much like Arizmenda but almost from a... hardcore perspective??? It's fucking good. Check it.

How good was Altar of Perversion? SVEST made some interesting material, i don't care about Bekhira, but Altar of Perversion?
Amazing band, and that final EP was something else. Really sad when i had to sell it after chasing it for so long...

I would never sell any of my EAL records lol. By the way I actually remember reading that they're putting out another album, and it's in its final stages.

Easily one of the top one and done albums for me, and one of my favourite albums ever, Disembowelment's Transcendence into the Peripheral.

Would either Conqueror or Carnage count? Both technically one release and broken up, but both had very similar bands start from the ashes..

My first thought? Kinda boring. This and Smile plus the really low play time of the album don't really have me terribly hopeful. It's not bad, and I'm sure I'll like it enough. Just not nearly as much as Altered State

They really lack Ashe O'Hara's brilliant vocal melodies.

Found Witch of 1692 last year sometime when they released this originally and I believe it was only digital through Google Play or maybe Bandcamp. I can't remember which and its not that important but I've had this digitally for a long time. So I was buzzing through Bandcamp the other day and saw that there was a limited run of physical discs out there so I jumped on it. Today I get this box in the mail wrapped in black paper shipped from Alabama, so I knew exactly what this was but what I didn't know was how cool the presentation was going to be. I took the black paper off the box and it was just a simple USPS shipping box but inside was the stuff below wrapped up in red tissue paper. The wax stamp was a really nice touch. I hated to even take the CD out of the wrapper but I cut it so I can save the wax part. Anyway, thought I'd share this because of how cool it was.

Just the other day I was wondering about new Kalmah material, and lo and behold, today I see a new song. Good stuff.

So I'm trying to get into Inquisition but I can't stand the frog vocals.
although off-putting at first, I never hated Dagon's vox, and actually I have grown to love them. Inquisition is an incredible band, easily one of the best black metal bands going today. Always a riff rest and IMO all of their records are fantastic. It is amazing the sounds that they can achieve with just the two of them.

Altered State was the shit. But apparently Ashe couldn't pull it off live? At least I think I read something like this. I came around on One, but still am not a huge fan of Polaris.

This new song doesn't really sound like the Tesseract I know and love, imo. The guitars are too low and the chorus sounds like a pop-punk song. If that's the direction they want to move in, more power to them. But I hope some other band comes along and serves to my need for ethereal prog-rock/metal.

I loved Altered State. One was good, and Polaris grew on me a bit, but Altered State was fucking amazing. Ashe knows how to create vocal melodies. Same with Voices from the Fuselage, which I'm betting has a kickass album this year. Dan is a decent singer technically but his melodies just aren't catchy or memorable, which you really need with this direction.

I saw Tesseract with Ashe and he was great live but yeah I think he couldn't keep it up for a whole tour or something, that's what I heard too.

Anyway, Altered State was amazing, One is very very good, Polaris and now this feel pretty....yeah, boring I guess. I don't want to completely blame Dan though. Although I preferred Ashe, Dan is good too and One was great so it can't be all his fault. The guitar work seems a lot less interesting to me, as well. Like the verse at 1:20ish on the new track. What's going on there? The effect is kind of cool I guess but it doesn't feel like its going anywhere or establishing anything and there's zero hook or anything to latch on to. There's a fair bit of that type of stuff on Polaris, too.

Oh cool , a new Hanging Garden video:

This band is one of the most underrated bands I know. They consistently put out really beautiful, elegant Melodic Doom Metal and always have the most awesome videos. In case you don't know them, "famous" songs are e.g. At Every Door and Borrowed Eyes

Not really related but i've been sleeping on the new obsessed and holy fucking fuck i so so sooo regret that now. Worthy of a vinyl purchase!

The whole thing just screams instant classic

I didn't have high hopes for this album after the revolving door of musicians Wino had in the band after the Spirit Caravan reunion fell apart. Actually, all the musicians who recorded this album with Wino aren't even in the band anymore!

Luckily, it somehow ended up being an excellent album. Wino is still a great songwriter.
