Having to stick with 49" screen size for a couple of years, is the Samsung QE7F worthy at 1 1250$ or do I need to go with the Sony XE900 for 970$ (but with a less professional shop) ?
Lot of Gaming and Netflix, wanna try that HDR.

Well, caved in and got a 65" C7 oled. Wallet is $2350 thinner now haha. Count me in the OLED master race haha, jk.

Just got a receiver too, Yamaha vx383 it's on sale on best buy for $279 in case any one is interest and it supports Dolby vision and HLG (just got the firmware update). It's just a 5.1 (no atmos or dtsx but does have Dolby true he and DTS master). More than enough for me, don't plan on putting ceiling speakers lol.

Does anyone else see this line on my tv? Anyone know what it is?

Guys I'm completely lost with HDMI standards.

I get that in order to play games at 4K/60fps and HDR 10bits through Xbox One X and PS4 Pro (well not native, I get it), I need HDMI 2.0

It will work fine with the X900E TV but I was going to buy a soundbar or a soundbase. The idea is to plug directly PS4 and Xbox into the HDMI In of the sound system, then to the tv via HDMI Out ARC. But I'm not sure which models are 2.0 compatibles :(

Philips Fidelio B5/B8 and Cabasse Streambase or Focal Dimension with subs only support 1.4 but I cannot find the precise intel.

Help :(

Does anyone else see this line on my tv? Anyone know what it is?

Can you link a higher res picture ?

What's better? A sound bar or a home theater system?
A properly setup HT system is almost always better than a sound bar, but there are other factors involved (price, space, speaker placement, inputs, etc).

Right now I'm using thishttps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TKP0X12/?tag=era0f0-20
gonna connect the blu'ray player at the link to a Sony 4k player and that to the arc hdmi port on the tv.
Sorry, I'm confused here. Are you trying to connect your Blu-ray player to another 4k unit? What would you be trying to accomplish with that?

If you are going with a HT setup, you would need a separate receiver that your components would connect to along with speakers/subwoofer.[/QUOTE]

I'm going to try and post a better pic, but I'm talking about the line that's going vertical, right behind the text.

The red or the yellow?
The red looks like banding, or maybe just reflection, hard to tell by the low-res image. The Yellow looks like dead pixels unless that's part of the image/text displayed.

I hope there are more 80"+ TVs released in 2018. There are slim pickins above the 75-77" range

Are you still going back and forth between projector and TV?

Yes, definitely, haha...although TV is probably in the lead.

My wife wants the basement to be open concept like the rest of the house, which will naturally make the space brighter. An 80"+ TV (sitting 10' away) would be a nice compromise as it will be large, but still perform really well if the room is bright. I laid that plan out for her and she was really excited. Happy wife, happy life and all that.

Depending on how long the basement takes to complete, I'll either be buying a set around black Friday or spring 2019. I'm not as concerned about HDMI 2.1 for this TV as the plan is still to buy an OLED for the living room down the line after 2.1 is finalized.

People keep using it as proof that you have to babysit OLEDs or you'll get burn-in, or that they're bad for gaming.

Yes technically it proves that OLEDs can develop burn-in but the parameters of the experiment make it useless for practically everyone unless you have your TV switched on for 20 hours a day with the same massive colorful watermark in the corner.

They're just starting a new batch of tests which seem like they will be far more useful to the average person .
But if you look at the values for the 2017 sets they are actually really good!! I don't know why people keep ignoring them. Was a major factor why I didn't go with a discounted 2016 set. Seriously, the 2017s even ace this artificial test. And the image is amazing.

That seems like a solid plan. Projectors are great, but there's certainly a lot more to account for and much more meticulous when it comes to setup. Panels keep getting bigger and cheaper so I'm sure we'll see more stuff in the next year or two in those bigger sizes.

Projector setups really are amazing, but I'm not sure one makes a ton of sense when we have two babies under 5 and the space will be theirs just as much as ours. I love the idea of it, but practically speaking, a massive TV with a surround sound system probably makes more sense and involves a hell of a lot less planning.

That's definitely true. And it's all a matter of distance. You'll still get a pretty incredible experience on a 80"+ set if you're 10ish feet away. Plus the brightness and contrast will likely be a lot better.

I just got a mu8000 this weekend and I think it's awesome. Coming from an older LG 1080p set so maybe anything would've blown me away, but so far I'm very happy with it.

Now I'm getting the hell out of this thread as I can't afford to be a new-tv-every-year kinda guy and need to live in ignorance of the latest and greatest!

The vertical line on the left of the text? Which TV ? My dad's x930e has two that look like this.

Yeah it's the red line. It's distracting when I watch content with a white background.
I wish I could show a better pic, but I would need to get up on my wheelchair.
I'll try to get a better picture though

Are you doing a projector or a TV in your (future) basement setup?

Well, we're in the scenario where we just bought our first house that is the "5-10 year" house that is a bit smaller than we wanted and a bit older, but was better for living closer to downtown Minneapolis. I'll be shoehorning 7.1.4 Atmos into the basement, but it'll be with the 65C7; the basement just isn't very large.

When we give up on being fun and move to the suburbs, which will probably be the "forever house," then I'll for sure do a much bigger basement and a projector and screen. It just isn't the ideal environment. Also, projectors have always struggled to contest panels when it comes to brightness, but that didn't matter as much with SDR. Now, with HDR and nits being all the craze, the next few years are likely going to require big jumps in projector tech to keep pace. Probably more evolution of laser and other types that will better handle peak brightness. Seems like that might be a better time to buy, but who knows!

Sweet! Can't go wrong with a 65" OLED and Atmos. When will that all be done? 2018?

Also, Vikings fan??

Depends on the speakers obviously. A pair of nice genelecs takes barely any space.

This man knows whats up... more people need to take a closer look at Genelec. They've the best sounding speakers I've listened to, and the room EQ (GLM) is even better than Anthem's, in my experience. I would not trade my 8351's for any other speaker, even those costing 50k/pair, and I've sampled a fair bit. The major downside is that they're powered monitors, so not as timeless as other speakers.

Yeah, I've actually started ordering some of the stuff. Have a Marantz MM8077 on the way. Need to get some Martin Logan rears and in celings for Atmos and then get the wires etc. Hoping to have it all installed within the next few months.

And no, born and raised in WI, so Packer fan (when they're on). Not a huge football fan in general, more of an F1 guy, but it was def fun having all the festivities here over the last week!

Yeah ML's are kind of a bitch to power. In ceilings and surrounds a bit less so, because they only dip a bit past 6 ohms, but my fronts are 4 ohms and need beefy amplification. Thankfully have an 8 year old Emotive XPA5 for those and that thing has been absolutely bullet proof. Probably one of the best pieces of gear i've ever owned.

This is an important point: projectors only look their best with completely controlled/dark lighting. Any light in the room will drastically compromise the picture, so I think you're on the right track for your space. A big TV will look fantastic in a dark room, but still great in a bright room.

...which ML fronts? I've only had a sub of theirs - but it was one of the big tri-driver ones that I won for...selling so many ML's ;)

Anything else you can add about this set?

It's the lowest latency set I've ever used in "game" mode, and arguably one of the only times I can say I've truly felt the difference. I'm suddenly not terrible at CoD since getting it, and quite literally every game I've sampled so far feels more responsive than ever before. It took a bit of fiddling to get the image how I wanted it, but it wasn't overly tough. YMMV though, as I work with colour/imaging for a living and likely have a more keen eye than average. I find that Samsung screens tend to veer toward the cool side of things, but there's enough finite control that it can be corrected and set up to your personal preference very easily. I haven't noticed any issues with HDR outside of Monster Hunter, but again it's my first HDR set.

Also, aesthetically it's one of the nicer tv's out there right now if that matters to you. It sort of reminds me of the current iMac style as far as shape is concerned. I prefer the hard corners of the Sony stuff, but the insane thinness of this combined with the excellent cable management system is absolutely gorgeous given that I have it on a clean, minimal tv stand. I'd never seen the "one connect" box before (all your inputs and outputs are on a separate box rather than on the back of the actual tv) and already don't know if I could go back to anything else, as I'm able to keep it tucked away in of of the sections of the tv stand, keeping the wires spilling out to an absolute minimum.

Thanks for the response. I'm most likely going to buy a 2018 set anyway, but the 82" MU8000 is very reasonably priced and it's nice to see the positive response.

I personally stay at the default settings for oled light. ISF Dark Room picture mode oled light default is 60. I turned it down but didn't like the results. Everyone is different though. I would go with what looks good to you.

Though oled light setting doesn't seem to be the end all settings. Dolby Vision hdr picture modes put the oled light at 50 and I don't have an issue with those settings.

Are there any signs hinting that Nvidia might include OLED for future bfgd?
