So basically characters are more or less useless without their 5* weapons, is that correct?

Not totally useless but in the harder/est missions, a 4*is probably as low as you want to go. Even a high-ish level 4* can be a bit weak, though you can still probably finish quests, but not get good points.
Oh also if anyone has followed me but I haven't followed back it is mostly due to forgetting to check. Make sure ERA is in your name!
If you have duplicates you can otherwise yeah you will need to wait until they release the armour equivalent to power stones. I want it now so that i can LB Squall for more cp.
LOL I've no choice now, I'm out of gems and knowing the 35 CP weapons are coming "soon" it makes no sense to LB hers. The only completed weapon I have is clouds.

I wish the game would let you know when someone follows you. Outside checking everytime, I have no idea.
Especially because cp15 weaons are on the cp35 banners. Best to pull for one of something that's useful now and dupes then.
So are we getting new banners ever 2-3 days or what ? I did a multi on the new Terra one and got all 3 featured weapons...i thinks. Def. my best pull so far.

Also if anyone has quit the game we should probably start filtering them to the bottom on the friend sheet. Most people are going to add top to bottom and if people aren't active they'll be adding dead accounts.

Seriously. I'm always expecting a notifcation and then realize that I have to manually check. :( Made that mistake with my friend support character until ASF told me.
That's dirty. So basically they can guarantee a 5-star and still have it be meaningless. Great.
We have 26 characters in the game so far. 25 from Chapters 1-25 + Squall. Going forward we'll likely be seeing weekly events adding one new character or a chapter update with 3.
Have wol cloud bartz and squall at 50 and levelling terra vaan and rem. Not sure what the best threesome is yet. I like wol and bartz but they lack the hp specials of squall and cloud
Do people have a preference on what they want to see in a summoned friend? I've had my Cloud set (weapon and armor at LB1, STR45), and I personally use other peoples' Clouds more than anything else, but I do have a Zidane with a fully upgraded weapon, and Squall or WoL are both decently equipped if people want something different than a bunch of Clouds.
Thanks a lot - this will take a bit then i just arrived in Chapter 3 and the second world had more stages overall than i expected.
Got WoL/Terra/Squall/Vaan to 50. Yshtola and Cloud are next up around 32.

I run 5-5 Hard up til around 30 or so, then just bring along one of them with my initial party (that leveled up naturally over the story) for crystal runs, events, etc.
Sorry to come back to that but I think I might be missing something here. From what I tried, upgrading a 2* weapon takes 10 2* gems to get to level 5 but the XP from fusing this weapon to a 5* is less than what the 10 2* gems would be. What am I missing here?
Did a 10 pull on the Squall banner. Got squall and Zidane (2nd). Alright then. I'm ok with this.

It ends up being cheaper in Gil from what everyone is saying. ANd I mean like every youtuber, including JPN veterans. There are vids that show exact math, so you can check those.

I almost always choose the WoLs or Clouds for my support friends just because they have so much utility in almost any situation. Honestly you might want to do what you think will earn you the most gold in the end (so probably still Cloud, WoL, Squall). I briefly switched my own support to Vivi and consequently had fewer friends choose me so my gold reward from that was a bit of downer. At the same time though, having a high powered though less popular character might get you a lot of play too for certain situations, so maybe consider someone like Y'shtola or Yuna if you have someone like that ranked up high enough.

I have Yuna as my support right now. She can use some powering up but lending her out for her utility when somebody needs a quick Esuna and doesn't wanna use up one of their party slots seemed like a good use of my support.
Just reached Kefka and his theme is as great as always, too bad it has the voice actor do the laugh instead of using the same sound they had in the original game.

Yeah once you have all of the hard mode completed you just knock out the bells and crystal daily runs and then it's just the occasional 30sp run after that. I go through good stretches where I can just macro TM farming for BE but the last month did indeed have a lot of NRG grind events. This new event coming will be a quick one so reprieve is on the way! As for this game, I'm curious how often we get story chapters but am assuming it's one a month. Hard to imagine they'll give us a new character every week but maybe they do for a stretch and I assume it's otherwise an event for an existing character to get their 5* armor piece like Squall's does and to help hype/promote a banner with that character's weapon coinciding with the event. We shall see!
I already knocked out hard mode so it must be that Relic you used, that sounds pretty effective. I was neglecting to do Co-op ever since beating both challenges but started incorporating runs a couple days ago when I realized they drop crystals and that you get extra gems until you've met 20 new people. I still need to host a friend sometime for that achievement hehe I've just been matching up with strangers online. Considering I have his crystal level at 45, I suppose I'm fine and will easily knock it out when purple comes around again but I'm just nervous about how few of the smallest crystals I have and will need to finish. I realized it was dumb to ask your weapon level since it's obviously 6* haha Awesome job! Yeah, we were only able to limit break the belt the one time. I wonder if there will be a better armor piece for him coinciding with the second chance at belts in which case we'll be trying to ditch the belt rather than break it more haha Yes, Squall is a BRV slaying king!
Seifer has the problem that many young males have, arrogance. To me, the difference between arrogance and confidence is that arrogance is false bravado that requires external validation to bolster the individual's self-esteem. Confidence comes from within and is literally believing in yourself whether from high self-esteem alone or from the knowledge and experience of having success in what you're doing. Seifer is hell-bent on coming off strong in the beginning and then desperately seeks Ultimecia's approval further in. The sad part is that he has two friends that accept him for who he is and should have shown him that he didn't need to act out. Fortunately, in the end, he's finally able to realize this and he gets the perfect closure to his character arc even if part of it is conveyed in a cutscene with no dialogue. He's genuine smile and laughter while fishing with his buddies is worth a thousand words nonetheless. I like to think that over time he and Squall were able to become bros but for now, a mutual respect will suffice ;p
Haha that's good because you really don't need to go all in on her yet and by the time she gets buffed to be a badass, she'll have that better weapon as an option. Which is obviously a conclusion you already came to. Squall-Vaan-Terra future for everybody! (ok, whoever everyone's husbando or waifu is will take a spot or two). I'd be extremely surprised if the 35CP weapons came anytime remotely soon. That's why I'm fine going all in with Squall right now. It makes more sense that they'd cycle through every character currently in the game having their 15CP weapon on a banner first and they'll be adding more characters each week so...I'd assume we're months away from 35CP. That said, I guess soon is a relative term and that's why you put it in quotes hehe
The main limiter for taking weapons past ~lv25 isn't really total amount of XP, it's the gil required. Both gil and weapon XP are technically infinite in this game depending on how much you want to grind, but doing the 2* equip method trades XP efficiency for a sorely needed boost in gil efficiency.
I inadvertently discovered the key to having tons of gil and avoiding upgrade issues in that respect is selling 5* based weapons. I did it for the power cores but it instantly put me up in the 500ks in gil. I can only imagine how much gil someone who's lucky enough to pull multiple 5*s each pull could get if they didn't want what they pulled. All my ten +1's have only provided a single 5* base.
At this point I'm convinced the game just doesn't want me to have Squalls weapon. I've got 3 Zidane weapons and 2 Tifa weapons and no Squalls.
I've got his 4* wep but frankly, they're just so bad in comparison to 5* weapons. :/
I can still get gems from places in the game like more of the hard modes and MP, but at this point I feel like I should just save, cos this game is being shit to me.
Edit: SInce the NT Buster Sword seems better than Ogrenix stat and CP wise, I guess Squall can have Ogrenix for the time being *sigh* No affinity bonus but still better than the silver Squall sword.

Hoo boy, apparently the synergy characters for the next event (the Vanille one) are Vanille, Hope and Yuna.

I like games that make all the characters useful at some point. It's boring just plowing through with 2 super powered characters.
Agreed. I hope we get some events that you can only use certain gem color or numbered game characters only. Like "Green gem characters only!" or "Attack of the mages, Zidane and Co. unite!"

I have to admit I'm losing interest in the game, just as I've said before release that if it was English only, I couldn't see myself playing very long. 2 same skill per character quickly become boring, with all fights being samey.
Anyway I'll still play a bit more and at worst, login daily to hoard gems.

Nice, there are some great things to look forward too. Alternate costumes are really exciting, and I will rock the heck out of gunner Yuna and (presumably) AC Cloud, but I do wish at some point, in some game, we could get wholly new looks for these characters.
Apparently it was just an introduction to the game I think, and there was a raffle to win the dissidia NT sword for Cloud
I find it kinda refreshing to be able to play a game like this relatively well without having to spend hours each day to min/max your 5 different stamina bars. As long as they continue to add content to it, I'll keep coming back.
I'm so excited for costumes in the future. Give me SeeD Squall or original please! I also would love to see them add costumes to characters we haven't seen yet.
I'm going to take it easy on the grind now that I have pretty much everything completed. I will mostly crystal farm for future characters and maxing out Cloud and WoL.

Yeah I think we will get an idea of pacing once maintenance ends. They've already done wonderful with how much they've given and how progressive the game is with rates and characters. We will patiently(not at all)wait for more VIII content. :]
I just love how interesting of a character Seifer is! Both him and Squall seek approval in different ways with Squall being anti-social but always overthinking what others feel about him and Seifer being loud and arrogant hoping to be respected. I do however think it's not just about seeking her approval but that he begins to believe he has no back out option and that fuels his desperation. That and he definitely was manipulated in some form hence him going with Edea in the first place.
Just give me playable Seifer <3
Figured alt costumes would be a thing. Cool to see that Vaan one since that's the one I use in NT too!
Also Wazzy, Seifer is playable in the Japanese version by the looks of it so just have to wait for whenever he makes his way here.
Phew, finally got Vaan to level 50. He took a lot more effort without the 2x XP modifier Squall and WoL has going right now, naturally. Now to just get those three character's crystal level maxed out which will require another rotation or two of their color event I expect. WoL's is tomorrow it looks like. I should probably start swapping in Cloud and Yuna for certain things to get them leveled up since they'll be my niche use units. Also, man is it entertaining and so quick and smooth to have a three Squall team in Co-op haha Marlboro stands no chance. It's also great when your team uses their summons properly against Marlboro so that he's killed without getting a single turn. I hope they add new Co-op bosses soon. I can only run the same guy so much ;p I'm assuming you get more crystals from Marl since he's a higher difficulty level than Behemoth but haven't tested it.
The rates certainly seem friendlier than BE but maybe I was just lucky. Although I wish the battles system was more varied with more options, I like that this game plays pretty differently than BE, a nice companion game. It will help us endure our Squall withdraw in BE a little too hehe Even more than his weapon, I want to know when Squall's level will break to 60! It will be a long ass time I imagine so strap in. I'd have to check again but going off memory from the one time I read Japan's release list, I believe Zell is two updates from Squall, Irvine five, and the Seifer, Raijin, Fuijin trio eight . I'm curious to see how many updates we get a month to determine the timeframe there but shouldn't be too bad. The long wait for more VIII goodness begins but Squall will keep me pacified :D
Yeah, Squall is very insecure and the reason he's my favorite game character is that he experiences more personal growth than any other character I've seen in the medium. From an introverted loner too afraid to connect with people lest he gets hurt to becoming a leader who can rely on friends and even more dramatic for him, opening up fully to Rinoa. Anyway, don't want to get too into it here because it's off-topic and we've already been guilty of that as is hehe I will say Seifer did indeed double down due to feeling he was stuck in a corner, poor guy. For this game, do I have Rinoa at Squall's side when she releases (yes) or put Zell next to Seifer to torment him ;p
So nice QoL changes in there! Cool that we had a few of them implemented right off the bad. Whoever is running the global version seems more competent than Gummi. Artifacts will be cool and will help diversify builds and of course, EX attacks will be welcome! Squall better get Lionheart for his! Apparently, Cloud and Shantotto are the first two to get them so if Cloud's is Omnislash I'll feel good about Squall's being LionHeart. I don't normally care much about alt costumes but I look forward to getting Vaan out of his weird getup from XII. The totally need to do a crossdresser Cloud hehe Oh, and looking forward to getting more types of events. Sounds like the Raid works similarly to how it runs in FFBE and they will be implementing an event that functions like Mog King farming events in FFBE to incentivize repeat runs.
Don't forget Vaan since I think you got one of his 5*. He's god tier eventually with Squall and is already the strongest magic attacker in the game at present. His abilities are pretty fun to use, especially when it chains into a second volley.

Oh right! I've got Vaan almost at level 30 and 20 crystal STR so I'll slowly get him there xD His combo with whiteout is fantastic.
Oh yeah this game is much nicer to us than BE. At the very least(and if they take this away I will RIOT) VIII will have the step up so we more than likely should get our Squall and Rinoa <3

Yeah Squall is my favourite protagonist. He is such a well developed and interesting character that is so lovely to watch grow throughout the game.
I think he comes with Raijn and Fujin around chapter 10 it's just I'm impatient and whining. xD
Excellent! Yes both Whiteout and Luminescence are so satisfying when they are triggered. I'm not even sure what triggers them exactly. It's either the World of Illusions or the color crystal event where they only seem to trigger in the third round.

We are kindred souls, you and I! and yeah no worries, everyone is impatient for their favorite characters or the powerhouses that sit at the top of the list in Japan. I figured I'd mention it just in case you hadn't looked at Japan's schedule. I'm assuming we'll get one Chapter a month like BE does.
