gonna try this again, but better-like
The game isn't out yet, so we don't know if his political ideology detracts from that.
He's not making fun of labels, he's proudly showing off his far right labels of being against representation, social justice, and diversity.
He was one of the biggest gamergate supporters and would often go about a persecution complex that he's a misogynist.
(receipts)
yeah, apparently that's just the tip of the iceberg here - but again, he's proudly chest-thumping on hateful nonsense, no idea why that needs to be danced around
He is making a game about his own country, its history and culture, first such realistic RPG of its kind, and he gets accused of racism for it. Would that not anger you? If, say, someone from China makes a game about chinese history and does not put african people in it, would you call him racist?
i think it's entirely possible to do a "historical" game without planting one's flag on being bigoted, but that's what dude chose to do
I want to like this game, but one of the lead devs is apparently a racist, gamergater piece of shit type. Can't support it. It's a shame.
Edit: Apparently that's been well-covered. Oh well.
fear not, it's worth repeating
Yeah, clearly the solution was supporting a massive harassment campaign against women, that clearly proved everyone who thought he was sexist wrong.
thank you - gg literally started out a slut-shaming campaign, the transition to harassing women was pretty natural looking back
Here is my question: when the game comes out and people are discussin the game in the official thread, are we going to get heckled and the thread derailed because we still bought the game? Or will it be possible to actually talk about it on this forum?
hopefully both? dude's awful views are clearly part of the design here - why would an honest conversation be devoid of that?
You claim that anyone who supported GG automatically supports harassment that some anonymous people perpetrated when using the hashtag. I refuse that kind of collective punishment, particularly in an online space where anyone can anonymously do anything with any hashtag.
nahh - you sleep with dogs, you get fleas. anyone who was solely interested in say, "ethics in game journalism" likely could've distanced themselves from a hate campaign long before its irrelevance.
No. It's because of his words and his expression in a public forum as more or less the face of his company that this game is tied to his abhorrent views. If it loses sales, it's because of him. If the rest of the team loses out on money for it, it's because of him. And if a discussion of the game's admittedly impressive mechanics and ambition can't be had without a reminder that Vavra is a piece of shit, it's his fault. But I won't segregate my negative opinions of one of the public faces of this game and the company developing it to a seperate thread just because you feel like the game isn't getting a fair shake. Especially when his shitty politics came back into the forefront in a midst of a criticism of this game he was taking issue with.
thank you for this - all the more important, again, watching gg having been all but rolled into the alt-right a while back.
like what you like, but the gaming community at large not wanting to talk about this is a big part of how we got here.
Far right? The dude grew up around the culture of the Iron Curtain and as a result, he's sick of the constant word/tone policing, dictating what creators do with their creations.
that's an interesting way to sum up those wanting inclusiveness in games, but then again "free speech advocate" is quite a spin on directly supporting hate campaigns as well
i'd argue he's clearly free to do as he pleases with said creations - what you're planting your flag against is simply the consequences of such
if you would asked here if women are feminist, you would be laughed at. We don't care about that shit and maybe that's why
i realize you walked it back a bit a few pages later, but that was quite the hot take
For many people feminist is a dirty word, as they assume it no longer describes just striving for equality, but insane western BS like manspreading, shaming fit women in adverts or spilling your menstrual blood everywhere being some sort of human right. It might not be fair for the whole movement to be defined by it's extremes, but the reality is that those extremes have tainted the public image of feminism.
It's not like it's something uniquelly eastern european. Look at
2015 american poll, where 85% percent of Americans believed in "equality for women." Yet, only 18 percent of respondents identified as a feminist.
For better or worse for majority of modern society feminisn no longer means just equality
this isn't a recent phenomenon; the right has been literally at that for generations now. you're highlighting their success at framing the argument, given how many still misunderstand the definition of the term.
but your first paragraph kinda just plays into that tumblr stereotype as well, sadly. the amount of creative control women are getting, #metoo & the like are much bigger than any of that.
US white people approach racism from a guilt perspective. That is your burden and don't you dare to expand it upon us who did no such thing. US was founded on racism and racism runs deep in the US' blood.
with respect to the rest of your post (which was good, and an important rebuttal to the whitewashing of the effects of communism): there is a tremendous more to our history than the meme of "white guilt", and while you're quite right about racism in our DNA, with respect to your/others' notion of everything being american-centric in perspective, it's important to note that bigotry towards darker skin is quite honestly a global problem and not simply ours
Hell, if anyone wants further proof, just go check his twitter likes. Dude is a full blown alt-right dipshit. It's hilarious people were complaining about "American views" in previous posts here. Dude likes, follows and behaves like every alt-right fuckwit that exists in the internet.
On his amazing collection of likes, you can even find him liking post of conspiracy shit like pizzagate. This dude is garbage.
Out of curiosity I went and had a look, and yeesh. Wasn't too bad at first as it was all relating to the press cycle for his game, but go back a few months and he's got retweets from Paul Joseph Watson, anti-Antifa shit, Rebel Media and I even found a pro-Charlottesville retweet in there. Fucking hell.
exactly - the social relativism falls apart very quickly when you see the receipts. it isn't simply "his perspective from a former communist country: when you see the hateful stuff this guy celebrates
I'm not finding the Charlottesville RT, but here are other likes that show he's a big fan of alt right figures. Also some fake news about a shark in Texas lol, because of course James Woods is a dumbass.
(Charlie Kirk was a Breitbart writer who supported Bannon and Milo and a conservative activist who founded Turning Point USA which is a conservative org that secretly works to combat campus liberalism by influencing student elections)
Kekistan flag, the same one you find at Nazi rallies)
I'm sure people know about Paul Joseph Watson, Gavin McInnes (contributor for Rebel media who also founded Proud Boys a white nationalist movement in Canada), Stefan Molyneux (race realist MRA alt-right figure who used to be a cult leader) the Trumps, etc. In case you don't know Jack Posobiec, he's a conspiracy theorist who went on about Pizzagate and doxxed people (thanks to Vic Berger highlighting him).
wanted to quote these receipts for a new page, thanks for this
I believe there are posters trying to keep Era from becoming as staunchly anti-gamergate and critical of shitty people/devs like this as the old site was and using the implosion of the old site as reasoning why.
that's been my take as well - there's people who simply want to play eurojank, but there is undeniably a crowd who want more gg acceptance here (lore's attempts to frame said implosion on the left lean naturally follows the disingenuous nature of said group). the latter group is the one that needs highlighting to keep ERA growing in the positive direction it thankfully has so far.
Here we go with the both sides thing.
Please, enlighten us on how a guy who supports not only gamergate but alt right fascist movements like kekistan has some good points that we should all listen to. Please tell us what aspects of his beliefs are worthy of consideration and debate.
Is it the "harass all women out of the gaming industry" thing? Or maybe the "Jews will not replace us" thing?
posts like this need to be quoted in every thread related to varva & his works
Or alternatively, alt right fanboys will buy just so they can stick it to the mean 'ol SJW's and such
if that were the case, it's a lot of trouble to go through when hatreon is such an easier dollar
I think gaming sites like this with such extreme leftest opinions aren't that common. Everywhere else I'm seeing threads about the game none of this stuff even gets brought up.
which is precisely why Era stands above the rest - so many other corners will continue watching the alt-right grow & become normalized and wonder how that's happening, while not even thinking about the platform they're allowing
