When I beat the game does it auto kick you in to ng+ or are you allowed to keep exploring the world?

Just finished, some of the best DLC I've played. As polished as the full game (even more in some areas), really well integrated into the gameplay, and fleshes out the very interesting lore.

Bring on Horizon 2.

I actually think this game is slightly underrated in terms of the visuals. I mean, when you'e in an intense fight with a Frostclaw/Stormbird/Thunderjaw with shit flying everywhere and it barely even drops a frame nothing else really comes close.

Just started into the Frozen Wilds expansion today. It feels good, being back with Aloy in that world. It's like slipping on a comfortable old pair of shoes -- except that I don't remember how to walk, and it's colder outside than I remember.

It's good to hear Aloy's voice again. She seems a little funnier this time. The animations of her movements are so good. I played the original game on 1080p. I bought a 4K TV in the meantime, and it's a nice upgrade to an already-beautiful game.

It's a strange transition, going from very powerful at the end of the normal game to suddenly feeling like a weakling again. It's a drag in a way, but in another way, it's good, because I really enjoyed that early-game sense of feeling weak and threatened.

I need to get my combat and menu-twiddling skills tuned up again. After 9 months off, I'm having to relearn things. Even though I'm fumbling around, I still love Horizon's combat -- there is so much variety in how things can play out, and so many different strategies you can use.

Just finished and platinumed (first PS4 game to receive the honor :p) the main game after about 50h, the remaining story quests were done quicker than I expected. Lovely ending, it's just sad we can't explore the location as it's out of bounds. It sure would make for some great photos. Maybe once PS4 is hacked wide open enough it's possible to spawn there :) Also I'll have to read up on the metal flowers now after seeing the pattern in the final camera angle. I'll probably return to the frozen wilds after the initial MHWorld craze dies down.

Fake edit: Damn! The post credit roll scene :0

Finished the frozen wilds dlc a few days ago and the main story tonight.

I liked them both a lot overall, I do think the main story relied a bit too much on huge exposition dumps however.

Since the Deluxe Edition is on sale I am planning to pick it up but I wonder if my save file from the Disc edition is compatible as I sold it after getting the Platinum trophy. Any ideas ?

It's insane how much better Frozen Wilds is in regards to characters, writing and such. Just completed the very first side quest (drains) I think i haven't been this entertained by the total of side quest in the main game lol.

Just found out about that kick ass Thunderjaw statue. Bought. $99 on eBay brand new in case anyone's interested, seems to be more expensive everywhere else. Also bought the soundtrack CD.

Is that the one with the band? I loved that one.

Sheesh, I noticed the Collector's Edition is priced at $389 at amazon.

Agree about the writing being a notch better in Frozen Wilds. More humor and warmth, too -- maybe to compensate for the cold.

$15 is such a bargain for this expansion. Feels more like a gift from Guerilla than something I paid for. I've spent 5 or 6 hours in it, and I've enjoyed every minute.

I made a little progress with the main quest (tracked down the shaman), and I did one sidequest (Waterlogged, surprisingly complex). I'm doing a lot of exploring -- trudging through the snow, opening up new territory, lighting up new campires, talking to whoever I stumble across, and battling the daemonic machines when I feel like it. I enjoy the combat, so I sometimes spend a long time just on enemy encounters (e.g., I spent about an hour yesterday shutting down three control towers and taking out the surrounding machines). With the way I play, I can see myself spending 30 to 40 hours in the expansion.

If the game flow, quest design and storytelling quality in Frozen Wilds are a sign of what we should expect from HZD2, man, we'll be in for a treat. It's cut quite a few notches above anything the main game did - and honestly, on par with the best in the medium. Gameplay was already great and they had many systems in place that can be expanded upon (e.g. doing more stuff with the elemental weapons; more complex interactions with overridden machines; more complex and involved Cauldron layouts).

Guerrilla has all the pieces to make one of those genre/generation/gaming defining games.

Playing through it now after not having played the game for a long while. Had to get adjusted to the controls and now it feels great again. One thing that keeps bugging me is the amount of damage human enemies do. I can take quite a few hits from big ass machines that weigh a ton but 4-5 arrows and I'm dead. That's just odd.

Yeah with the harder difficulty in Frozen Wilds the human enemies are pretty ridiculous. That one bandit camp was a pain in the ass.

okay I'm playing frozen wilds and there's a random pair of footprints in the snow that you can track but they seem to just lead you in a circle, what's up with those?

If it's the tracks I'm thinking of I think they're for a quest you can do related to the Carja encampment. I stumbled onto them early too.

Through some miracle I managed to make myself finish this game. Cool that some side quest characters appear in the end depending on whether you did their quests or not. Rest of the final sequence was fairly lame. Especially that final boss.

Just another deathbringer. I didn't even get to fight the giant robot with the tentacles. You know how cool it would have been to fight one on top of that spire area? It would have been cool. But that didn't happen. So nothing cool happened.

Overall, a fairly average experience. I'm not sure if I can make myself get the DLC despite being told it improves upon the base game, considering the praise the base game got that I don't really see myself.

I find the DLC significantly better than the game overall. It's pretty cheap too with a solid amount of content. I wouldn't blame you for skipping it of you don't really like the base game though.

What trouble? Also the outfits look gorgeous, and shield weaver is just easy mode. Specific outfits offer a lot more value in terms of stealth and resistance.

Well, "trouble" was the wrong word to use, because I actually enjoy hunting down the bluegleam. Guerrilla has a way of making all the collectibles (except text and audio logs) fun to collect. So I'll find out for myself eventually. I was just curious.

What I was wondering was, when you get to the toughest fights late in the DLC, do those outfits provide better protection than the Shield Weaver? You might not be the person to answer, since it sounds like you are morally opposed to using the Shield Weaver. I went to a lot of trouble to get it; I'm going to use it, lol.

Is it worth the trouble to get the new outfits, if I already have the Shield Weaver armor?

By the end of the game I had every super rare armor and still had over 50k shards. Might as well spend your shards on something.

Personally the specific high level resistances that they provide for specific encounters is very useful. Plus they look really cool. I'll usually wear armor depending on the region I'm in unless I need a specific bonus.

Shield Weaver is the best overall armor still.

Edit: I think you meant the armor in Frozen Wilds. Sure, why not? You'll have a ton of bluegleam after awhile and the new bows are kinda terrible so might as well.

I did not like the look of the new Banuk freeze armor though. I much prefer the one in the base game. Same for the Carja armor variant.

Thanks. Yes, I'm referring to the DLC armor. I'll be picking them up eventually, I was just curious if they were some kind of "ultimate armor." Sounds like they're not, but they still provide some helpful advantages in certain encounters.

I'm loving the new bows. Mod them up, notch three arrows, and they're pretty deadly.

The Banuk sure go crazy with the headgear. I'm surprised they don't have a chiropractor at each settlement.

The armors provide +10 to their resistance rating Iver their base game counterparts.

The bows are nice if your sniping, but they don't do much damage when your not doing a full draw compared to something like the Shadow Hunter bow which can output more damage at a much faster rate.

Lol no, not like that. It's just OP end game armor that makes you forget about everything else and also play a bit more carelessly. For certain fights, other armor provide way more value.

For instance, when you fight a stormbird, the Oseram armor that has high resistance to shock helps a lot to avoid damage from the shock attacks.

Against thunderjaw, melee protection armor is great because you can avoid taking fatal damage from one of the strong charge or tail whip attacks.

Carza Blazon to protect against machines that use fire damage, such as Scorchers. Stealth armor to sneak around bandits, and easily override machines....and so on.

Ofc none of this really matters on easier difficulties, but on the hardest ones, shield weaver is not the answer to everything.

I played the game on ultra hard and got the shield weaver armor after I did all the main quests. I was definitely going to use it for the DLC, I earned that.

Shield Weaver armour doesn't do shit in this expansion on Ultra Hard so I'd hardly call it OP.

It got me out of a couple of sticky situations, then again those new monsters hit pretty hard.

Returned to this game for the DLC, feel like it's been a year since I last played. Booted the game up, and was like "huh, I remember the game looking better than this". Went into the options and realised I had it on 'prefer performance' mode as I was probably cleaning up some combat trophies last year. Switched to resolution mode and my God....still the best looking game of the generation surely?

However. The camera still hasn't been fixed. WORST CAMERA IN A VIDEO GAME. EVER. Constantly moving Aloy to the right side of the screen for no damn reason, never moving her to the left, oh no, can't have that can we? No, it has to be to the right side only, forcing me to aim her bow to snap her back to the left side of the screen. Fucking camera. It's almost game-breaking in its irritation.

I probably stopped every 30 mins of my 60 hour playthrough to use photo mode and take pics.

The camera didn't bother me too much, but I would also aim my bow to snap it back from time to time.

About 20 hours into the DLC now. Still really enjoying it. I've just hit what I think is the last settlement, before setting out on the final quest. They gave me a few more sidequests to finish up first (e.g., upgrading my Icerail). I like how meaty the subquests are in the DLC, compared to the base game.

I'll probably have about 170 hours on the clock, by the time I get done. I don't think I've ever spent that much time with a game, except for a Bethesda RPG.

p.s. I didn't have any issues with the camera.

I actually liked the camera quite a bit. Just walking around or in combat, I felt like they were framing the action pretty well. No it's not a traditionally centered camera but I think I like GG's approach more. I will say that I do think the camera is too close when you're in a settlement.

Still haven't beaten the main story but bought the DLC anyway and ventured into the Frozen Wilds. Good god. The snow, the northern lights, the volcano...

One of the scenery pornest games I have ever played. I almost spend more time in photo mode than playing the game, haha.
The facial animations also seem much improved compared to the main quests.

And those Daemonic Scorchers can really take a bite out of you...

Not only did I rarely, if never, have any issue with the camera in this game, this post certainly helped make me feel really old. Someone wasn't around during the PS1 days, it seems... :P

Haha, unfortunately I was. Resident Evil 1 camera...yuck. But seriously, this camera never only ever puts Aloy to the right of my screen, nothing else. So frustrating.

I'm still wandering around getting collectables while my muscle memory...uh, remembers the control scheme. Then off to the wintry DLC lands I'll go. I almost forgot how good the soundtrack is, thankfully it's on Spotify.

The only time I didn't like the camera was in towns and indoors where in had the tendency to zoom in too close. That, and the field of view but that's a different issue really.

SOTC Remake for instance has a much more annoying camera than Horizon.
