Hard to believe that after years of work on this game, we could actually see it this year. We'll see what happens, but I'm starting to get excited for the release now.

If they're going to put anything Star Wars/Marvel in, they'll handle it the same as they do FF: character cameos and maybe a boss fight or two.

Besides, KH already has Mark Hamill playing the old master archetype!

To you. BH6 & live action are two completely different things. If it was BH6 & Incredibles then your point would've made more sense.

I disagree. Superheroes are superheroes. It's all the same stuff.

And considering we won't actually be having the (extremely expensive) live action actors in the game, what's the point? Just to see super-stylized KH3 Sora standing next to CGI Chris Evans Voiced By A Soundalike? Who wants that?

I would rather see the Incredibles, personally. Better fit for a video game, and the door is open to that now that we finally got a Pixar world.

My logic is that two superhero worlds in the same game would be repetitive. At least all the Disney movies have different themes and settings.
Square Enix inked a multi-year multi-game deal to make games with Marvel IP with Marvel at the end of 2016. Starting with Crystal Dynamics making The Avengers and Eidos Montreal making Guardians of the Galaxy. So I think it would be really easy for Nomura to get the rights to Marvel IP for KH4 as well, easier than Pixar even.

That's a very old quote. His newest quote says that Marvel and Star Wars probably "won't be in the game because it's more third party companies than Disney and licensing issues."

If "superheroes are superheroes" then Disney cartoons are Disney cartoons. See how nonsensical that sounds?

And did JD voice jack in KH2? No. What are you even talking about. Why would we need the MCU voice actors for it to have a point? Did the Tron actor voice the character? No. A soundalike is par for the course.

Marvel has so many unique locations in the MCU alone, I want to see how they do worlds in KH3 before they make a Marvel one. Places like Asgard, Wakanda, Knowhere, the Dark Dimension, etc. are all important to the MCU alongside just a metropolitan area. And you have to focus on either an individual Avenger or the entire group, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, the Guardians... there's so many parts that it'd really be difficult unless they limit it to one specific part of the MCU or make them separate worlds.

Personally, I'm waiting for an expanded Lilo & Stitch world, and a Jungle Book world.

I doubt it would be any easier or harder for them. Square Enix has the rights to those specific IPs for those specific projects, they're essentially contractors working for Marvel to make those games, similar to how Insomniac is working for Marvel (and Sony) to make Spider-Man.

There would need to be an entirely new contract signed for Kingdom Hearts, as there would be with Pixar to include the Incredibles. But the Incredibles actually fits the Kingdom Hearts art style and tone a lot better than the hyper-realistic-looking MCU. The reason the MCU works is because of the actors playing the characters - if you can't get Chris Evans to play Cap or RDJ to play Iron Man, what's the point in including the characters in the game?

Bruce Boxleitner did voice Tron. And if you're talking about Jeff Bridges in KH3D? None of the actors came back, and that world sucked.

Star Wars and main-line Marvel will probably be a thing in whatever Kingdom Hearts turns into next. What better way to show how different a new saga is? I do think they'd go with the Clone Wars/Rebels art style for the former, though.

I wouldn't be surprised if 3 has a tease, however. Maybe a coliseum boss fight against Vader and if you beat him you get a lightsaber keyblade.

I recall Nomura saying it was really hard to get Toy Story because Pixar was really picky, Pixar wanted the designs and story to look like they came out of the movie, they wanted an original story tied to Toy Story canon but that felt like an actual Toy Story movie, etc.

I think this would be better than an actual world tbqh.

A secret Vader boss that no one knew about until release would make people shit their pants.

Right. Pixar wanted them to do it right, and that's a good thing. That's the kind of way the worlds in KH should be approached, with reverence for and an understanding of the original work. The guys behind Tangled were super-involved with the process including that world in the game as well, I believe even Glen Keane was consulted for input on Rapunzel's character model.

Nomura said nothing related to KH4 will be in this game, no cliffhangers, no hinting, it will completely tie up any and all loose ends from the past 10 games. KH4 will be accessible to people who never played Kingdom Hearts before and not require any past games to understand the story.

SPECULATION (not confirmed or rumored): Kingdom Hearts IV-VI will use time travel and the villains will be the Foretellers and the main big bad will be Master of Masters (because Nomura said MoM won't be in KH3 but will appear in future games).

Exactly. Their relationship is probably on a different level than it was when KH3 started

Bruce was Tron, but yes Bridges wasn't. Caden in point, soundalikes are the norm in KH

The Pirates world was harmed greatly by none of the actors reprising their roles. The whole thing felt kind of pointless when it was just a bunch of generic anime voice actors playing Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffrey Rush. The same problem happened with the Grid in KH3D - why include that world at all if none of the actors wanted to bother?

Recasting an animated character's voice because the original actor is dead is one thing. But having digital versions of the actual Jeff Bridges or Johnny Depp in the game and then having them be voiced by some random guy? Why bother? Those characters are loved because of the performances that made them.

And like I said, if they tried to do an MCU world, they'd have ot make it super specific, and then everybody would just bitch that their favorite character wasn't the one picked. Big Hero 6 allows them to have a Marvel world without all the "WHY ISN'T CAP/IRON MAN/SPIDEY/THOR/etc IN IT!?!?!?!?!?!??!!?" screaming that would inevitably come from them being forced to pick one Marvel character to focus on.

EDIT: Here's a look at Giantland.

I don't get the connection between Mickey and Jack and the Bean Stalk and a LSI game. I coudn't find a LSI game based to the movie and neither Square or Enix made LSI games directly in the past. What i am missing here? Or is this just a random thought of Nomura?

Sounds like it's something he's wanted to do for a while and the versatility of UE4 probably made it possible.

There was a 1981 Mickey Mouse Game & Watch that sold really well, apparently.

Technically speaking it's also the first Mickey Mouse video game, if not first Disney game period, so it's a kinda cute throwback.

As for why it's Giantland, it's probably a "why not" situation. They already had a retro world in Timeless River so they probably wanted to harken back but do something different.

I somehow read LSI as "laserdisc" and immediately thought it was going to be like Dragon's Lair\Space Ace.

...This is cool, but I'm still a little sad. :(

Big Hero 6 is not a marvel world. Idk why you keep saying that. The world is based on the movie. The movie is not based on the Marvel comic. It is inspired by it. They didn't even allow a tie-in comic. Only a manga was released. No matter how many times you repeat that for your point, it won't make it right.

I do not recognize the distinction between the MCU and Big Hero 6. There is absolutely no value that the MCU provides to Kingdom Hearts that BH6 doesn't also provide. It's Marvel representation, just not Marvel Studios. That distinction is minuscule.

You're not going to get Robert Downey Jr. voicing Iron Man in Kingdom Hearts - Square does not have the money to pay him, and Disney isn't going to bother to force him to do it.

In fact, none of the major actors would bother, and their performances are the only reason those characters would have any value. If all that matters is "THERE IS LITERALLY A MARVEL LOGO ON THE BOX", you might as well just bring in Wolverine from the '90s X-Men cartoon. None of the MCU movies are good enough on their own merits to be replicable without the actual actors involved in making them.

God I can't wait for this game to come. Hopefully the Xbox version isn't "half-assed" or anything along those lines although I really should have no reason to think it will.

I still have my game save a friend and I would play in KH1 back in 2004. Every time we'd go to each other's houses we'd work on each other's saves, but I don't think we really beat the game lol. Man, I wish the teamsters came out on Xbox.

Big Hero 6 is a Marvel property. They're not going to have Big Hero 6 and an MCU world in the same game, it would be silly and repetitive. Acting like it doesn't count because Kevin Feige didn't produce it is also silly.

Besides, if they did try to do a MCU world, everyone would just bitch and whine that their favorite MCU character wasn't featured.

The Disney version of BH6 is a Marvel property but they barely consider it that. I don't believe they even use the Marvel logo at the beginning. I'd argue the overwhelming majority of people who saw it don't know it's a Marvel property.

It wouldn't be repetitive either as there are countless movies they could pull from. A Guardians of the Galaxy world will not look anything like Big Hero 6, for example.

It would unlikely have any real baring on a "true" Marvel world showing up.

None of those movies would be worth doing in Kingdom Hearts without the actors, though. There's nothing unique or interesting about most of the MCU movies aside from the performances of the actors.

Guardians without Chris Pratt and Bradley Cooper would just be Deep Space again. Why bother? Why waste everyone's time?

In case we all forget, KH2 actually got ripped on when it came out for having an awkward, visually-inconsistent, uncanny valley-infested Pirates of the Caribbean world yet none of the original cast.

They don't have to stick to the movie universe. They can go with the comic book or animated series universe where they'd have more leeway with the voices and the visual style would mesh better.

And the difference between the two is Pirates was a new franchise that was all built on one movie that had just come out recently. Marvel stuff is built off of characters who have been around for 50 years and have developed a ton of fans over that time.

You continue to undermine your own point every time. It's not marvel representation. There's no link with marvel and the BH6 world in KH because there is no link with marvel and the BH6 movie, that the world is based on. You bringing up x-men makes no sense. Those are characters marvel themselves created and continue to publish as marvel properties. It's not marvel representation. In any shape or form. That's like calling TMNT games DC comics video games. Because they did a crossover comic series before.

The Disney version of BH6 is a Marvel property but they barely consider it that. I don't believe they even use the Marvel logo at the beginning. I'd argue the overwhelming majority of people who saw it don't know it's a Marvel property.
Precisely. There wasn't no marvel logo, because the movie isn't a marvel property. It was kept separate so Disney could do whatever they wanted creatively. All marvel did was have some creative leads help "oversee". They didn't even let them do a comic. They had a manga made by an outside company instead. But to avoid saying he's wrong he'll just keep calling it a marvel world.

I was poo pooing the wait on this and now I take it back based on what I've seen now. Also, I don't remember being that much going on between character actions during battles. I hope I can keep up with the effects and such this time. I dunno, maybe it's been a while between playthroughs but I can't remember it being so hectic. Looks cool.

Because the only character from BH6 everyone recognizes is Baymax, which is probably why he's in the game twice. Just about any modern MCU franchise is bigger than BH6 in terms of fan appeal and demographics.

And yet, again, what is the goddamn point of including those MCU movies without the actors? They're not good stories. They don't have anything to offer Kingdom Hearts without the actors that made them popular in the first place. None of the villains are good except Loki, and Loki is good because of Hiddleston. What's the point?

They're doing a lot of constant cuts in the trailer to keyblade transformation animations and the finishing moves you get from them. In the final game it'll be a lot less crazy I imagine. You have at most maybe 4-5 seconds of normal melee combat in this recent trailer.

The trailers are a bit deceptive since they keep throwing the flashiest special moves, spells, transformations, summons and all on the screen every few seconds. You won't be performing them at quite that pace in the actual game, you have control over everything.

But if it's just based on the characters, then why is Big Hero 6 not a good option?

Most comic fans don't consider the Big Hero 6 movie to be the same thing as the comic book. It's similar to how video game fans feel about the Super Mario movie (except Obviously that Big Hero 6 was a good movie) they just changed so much that outside of the names, it's really not a good representation of the source material.

This is the original material:

big-hero-6-cover-106104.jpg

And this is the Disney-fied version:

Big-Hero-6-big-hero-6-37657096-1061-536.png

My understanding is that Marvel is no longer allowed to even print the original version any more. Not new stories, not reprints of the comic. Nothing. So it really no longer belongs to the comic book world.

Because nobody cares about soundalikes that much? The Toy Story world is most likely going to have Tom Hank's brother and the usual Tim Allen impersonator from Disney Infinity. Heck, a large chunk of the game's audience won't even play it with English audio anyway, as Japan will have their own voice track and numbered KH games have historically been dubbed in Europe.

The characters themselves are the selling point. Any trailer that ended with Rocket Raccoon shooting atop Sora would get big reactions anywhere.

So we're looking at a cheap ripoff of the characters either way. Why bother using the MCU at all then? Why not use Marvel cartoons? Why does it have to be awkward uncanny valley Chris Pratt voiced by some charmless anime dork?

It's been regularly stated in reviews for years now that the villains are always the weakest part of the Marvel films, with Loki being the primary standout and apparently the villain from Black Panther also being a surprising departure from the norm.

Who would you suggest is a villain that would actually be worth including in a Kingdom Hearts world? Keep in mind that their actor is likely either too expensive or too busy to reprise the role. You think Malekith is worth it? How about the oh-so-charismatic and well-written Ronan the Accuser?

As much as I love Star Wars, I don't want this shoved in. Personally I found Pirates of the Caribbean in KH2 a bit jarring. And why are they streamlining gummi ships?! I spent hours and hours just building my own desired ship. There was so much fun just crafting your own gummi and going through the courses.

Weak villains haven't been a thing in most MCU movies in, like, 3 or 4 years.
