is there a hot beverage like tea or coffee that people in Mexico prefer in the afternoon? I'd guess coffee, but I have no idea.

Lately I've seen lots of places that offer hot horchata, but the most traditional hot beverages you will find are:

Atole

And Ponche de frutas:

Yeah, this.

The lack of competition for Televisa, the only TV Network we had until the late 70s, and the lack of an animation industry meant anime became part of our life quite early. I'm willing to bet it was cheap for Televisa and Imevision to get those series, since they were not exactly new back then.

I still remember waking up early on Saturday to see Caritele. Waking up to see Detective Conan, Saint Seiya and Slam Dunk was such a ritual on weekends.

Do you think concerns about Russian intervention in AMLO's campaign will hold any water regardless of veracity? Or is all this political mumbo jumbo worthless since the PRI is gonna make sure they win anyway?

I'm from the city, but i don't worship the US culture (specially at this moment) and i only feel embarrassed by the people who loves Narco culture.

I still think that most of banda is just not good music, there are some really good like Cardenales de Nuevo Leon. Obviously this is an opinion but i don't think that kind of music is cool.

But Cardenales de Nuevo Leon is not banda lol, that is just norteño music.

This is banda

I do think Russians are all about getting into that Election business.
I don't think AMLO has any need for that noise and is clean in that respect.

PRI is just looking to save their asses making that connection.

They did something similar in the past presidential election running tons of ads that said "AMLO is a danger to Mexico" to great effect, now they are trying the same tactic, there is also another, bigger problem. PRI's corruption runs deep into the fabric of Mexico society, I don't think even the earth's core is as deep. We have a running joke but not joke that says "We have the results already, now to wait for the elections" so is a hard climb to make for anyone against them

I hate Banda with passion , the main reason of my hatred is everybody expects you to dance it and if you don't you are gay or is insulted at a personal level.

I want those! After reading up on each of them, I'm in.

Actually, there's apparently a place nearby where I can get an atole de platano to go. Maybe I'll stop by on the way home.

Platano atole is great, normally is a little thicker in consistency than I'd like, but the flavor is delicious, along with strawberry and rice they are my favorite variants

I learned recently that only some states in Mexico allow same sex marriage, but that if you get married in such state and go anywhere else in the country, your marriage is recognized nation-wide. That's good I guess... but what's stopping Same Sex marriage to be legalized nation-wide? Religious groups? Political opposition? Not enough discussion about LGBT rights and same-sex marriage?

Additionally, what's the general climate when it comes to LGBT rights and more specifically about Trans acceptance and Trans recognition? What is the general perception of transgender individuals in mexico? I learned recently too that a lot of Transgender Americans go to Guadalajara for surgeries and such because the cost for some procedures is cheaper than in the US.

Are there any openly LGBT individuals in Mexican media? I remember reading a few years ago that Facundo (?) wrote a book against bullying and such and offering support to gay teens and what-not. I thought that was really cool, but outside of that I just feel like Mexico overall is like "yeah we have gay people but we don't really care much about them because they're a minority compared to everyone else." Which is a shame...

What about sexual health and such? Are there community based organizations where one can get tested for STI's and HIV? I can imagine it's only mostly in big cities not so much in rural areas.

The Supreme Court of Justice already said that same sex marriage is the law of the country, so it's unconstitutional to deny the rights to married couples, now the deal is making it the law to be able to get married in every state, it's what it's been worked on but a lack of shits given and religious bullshit has been stopping some states from legislating.

Here's a map, in blue where you can get married, but as I said, it's already recognized nation-wide. Thankfully in the constitution, we are a protected class too.

My father's family is from El Salvador (Spain, and Italy if you ask them, but I find that many Latin Americans try to disavow any native blood,) and I always felt a kinship with other Latin Americans. I was surprised that my Mexican roommate didn't. He was very proud to be Mexican, and seemed to look down upon more southerly peoples.

Is this sentiment common in Mexico?

It's a recurrent thing for sure. The divisiveness that means being part of North America and not central and South seems to put a chip on a lot of people's shoulders.

Works both ways as a lot of South American people see us as USA's pet.

A year and a half ago the president sent a federal gay marriage law proposal to congress that was voted down quickly and without much discussion,

About that time the governor of my state, Guerrero personally married a lot of gay couples in Acapulco while his state law proposal was quickly voted down by state congress as well...

And those proposals were just to correct the law books now because the laws discriminating gay marriage were declared unconstitutional by the Mexican Supreme Court some time ago but still can't get passed by the less progressive states that have to recognize all marriages equally, gay and straight, even the ones officiated by the rogue governor because they lack the authority to uphold the discriminating ones in the books.

Also medical tourism is big in the northern states in general so thnres no surprise that a good doctor or two specialized in trans issues would become popular as well, somewhere in there.

As for sexual health that is mostly geared towards family planning and heterosexual focused but it's mostly free when you can get it in the public sector even tough there's a lack of resources there, but we also have a lot of private health services that are more expensive but a lot better in general.

I'm with you with the banda hatred though, I can't fucking stand hearing El Chapo de Sinaloa, El Kommander and Gerardo Ortiz being called singers or musicians, it's a damn insult.

Extremely low. Like, almost impossible. Unless you have bad luck and are caught in a crossfire between gangs.

Do you feel jealous of New Mexico being the fresh, sexy Lolita of the mexicos?

I like my girls a little bit older.
