Er, I have to sleep now but I didn't mention BotW. My apologies for not spelling it out, but LiS: BtS = Life Is Strange: Before the Storm lol. The other two I mention were Hellblade and NieR: Automata.
I won't comment on BotW since I don't have a Switch yet and I try not to judge things I haven't played myself. :)
That's the thing though, it really hasn't been. Nier and Divinity 2?
Not having Nier is a big omission. You could make an argument that Persona 5's writing is way too hammy and straightforward. It deals with contemporary issues in a superficial way. And not to mention a few of the troubling caricatures that have been discussed here in the past. Overall I enjoyed the story but aside from the first villain in the game I found the rest of them pretty disappointing. These awards are garbage. Madden yet no Nier A or Persona, they were likely not even considered because they were Japanese.
Not saying Horizon doesnt deserve being acknowledged for its pretty decent story for a huge AAA game, but still
Good the story was captivating. My only gripe is how they gave us crucial details with audio log that could have been missed.
How was the story compared to 4?I loved HZD, but it wasn't even the best written Sony exclusive last year (Lost Legacy).
Same :) Can't wait for the sequel and see how it continues. I guess it's gonna be a 2020 game for PS5. Let's wait and see.Well deserved in my opinion. I really enjoyed the writing and overall story.
I actually liked the story in Lost Legacy better than in 4.
No, it made perfect sense in context, and made it optional for those with little attention span who tend to go "lorelol".The back story was fantastic but dumping it around audio logs you have to hunt down then stand there listening to is lazy and half-arsed.
Quality aside, how many of those games were eligible for this award?Looking at the nominees, this seems like the Teen Choice Awards.
Against those games? Sure I guess, I haven't played Death of an Outsider.
But I HIGHLY disagree that it's the best writing of this year. It was good at best, I would only see it as the best if you don't play indie games.
To those of you who say it deserves it, have you all completed these games:
Divinity: Original Sin 2 (Come on, this is the clear winner)
What Remains of Edith Finch
Night in the Woods
NieR
Torment: Tides of Numenera (Disappointing but still better writing)
And if you have, how the hell does it beat them?
Aditionally, Planescape Torment: Enhanced Edition came out this year and if y'all are saying Horizon's writing is better I will tear your world asunder. :)
Quality aside, how many of those games were eligible for this award?
You really should have PMed the mod who warned you instead of asking here, but I'll answer you for this one: yes, a "positive" drive-by isn't treated in the same way because it's not typically meant to be provocative or inflammatory. From the FAQ:Pretty low standards if you ask me. Maybe I do not understand what makes a "drive-by" post, somehow it is only an issue when the connotation is negative? Yet, 1-3 word posts which amount to little more than blind approval and serve no purpose to further conversation do not count as drive-by?
Hope this helps. No drive-by posting: Do not come into a thread, write something purposefully provocative, and bail out. We'd suggest either making a solid argument or ignoring a thread altogether if you have nothing to contribute.
This is just not true. You can PM the mod who sent you the warning (you see their name in the acknowledgement box). I reply to (or, if necessary, forward to admins) all the PMs I receive. There's no way to dispute it that I know of, and I don't think most mods put any effort into responding to PM questions about warnings and bans, at least in my experience.
