What did your phone do to deserve that?

Did the drop shatter both sides or what?

Drop shattered the front glass, but I've been having issues with other parts of the phone (GPS) and wanted a whole unit replacement instead of just a screen replacement, so in order to make sure that happened I wanted to break the back. Seriously though, I could not break the glass with a hammer, even hitting it from a corner to simulate a hard drop. I had to resort to breaking the rear camera glass. If anyone says it's too easy to break the glass back they're lying

So I just realized I've been using "Hey, Siri" incorrectly this entire time.
I would say "Hey, Siri" wait for the chime then make a request but I just realized you can just say "Hey, Siri" and continue making your request.

So take this for what you will, but I attended a conference recently put on by Apple in Chicago. It's been reported on by several media outlets, but their engineers more or less confirmed the universal apps rumor. So that's exciting.

Sorry, already swapped it and have set up the new phone. There really wasn't anything to take pictures of! I should have recorded a video of me hitting it and nothing happening

That is exciting! What did they say that hinted at that?

It could be great or could be complete shit, depending on how Apple implements it. Every app that Apple has ported over from iOS still feels like an iOS app. Even the notification center. Awful user experience. So if they do that but for third parties, then RIP the Mac. But if they find some way to allow devs to Mac-ify their iOS apps, it could be an interesting way to boost the number of Mac apps.

I like using the camera in the messages app for convenience, but I always have to take two pictures because it overexposes the first shot. Anyone know why that happens?

The honeycomb pentile pattern can be pretty distracting at times still. I'm glad I have good vision, but it's somethig that bothered me when I got it and now 4 months later it still is apparent.

Is an iPhone SE refresh still a rumor for this year? I read an article about three new phones this year (updated X, 6.1" cheaper X, and 6.5" XXL), but nothing about a new SE.

I'm still completely stumped by the rear camera on this phone.

Last night my girlfriend and I went to visit this ice castle event thing. There were times that the rear flash wouldn't go off, even though I turned it from Auto to On. The icon would be on the screen, but no flash would happen.

There was another photo I was trying to take of my girlfriend in the enclave, and the ice was lit up red behind her. I tapped on her face to put the focus and exposure there, tried multiple time to take the photo. Even when the flash would work, she was just a dark silhouette.

The front camera was fine for selfie shots. Her X was doing the same thing. It was night time and cold outside. I don't understand.

Does anyone else use iCloud Photo library and get the exclamation points all the time? Is there any solution besides turning off optimize photos?

I hate not being able to send pics in my library just because the phone refuses to load them.

As much as I like the X, I'm really sick of the frequent little bugs. This is a new one for me:

I was due an upgrade, so tried the X recently, but really struggled with the lack of home button and even holding the thing with one hand, and not having the screen activating when not wanting it to etc. Went for an 8 in the end, and if this is truly the end of the home button, might bring to an end my long, long association with the iPhone.

You get used to it super quickly but I can understand it feeling odd with a quick use in a store. If they have a good returns policy I'd recommend trying it at home for a eek or two

Takes less than a day to get used to it.
So much quicker.

Flash stuff is weird, other stuff seems normal. Temper your expectations of what a smartphone camera can do in shitty conditions.

Yeah, I went to a concert the other night in a small club and the pictures looked about as good as the camera on the iPhone 4. The phone was I guess completely confused by the spotlights and looked extremely oversaturated and pixellated. I need to start bringing my old film 35mm because the phone cameras are still shit for concerts.

Yea, well that's why it's a big deal when a mirrorless or dslr can take good or great photos in low light. Want consistently good photos, have to invest in a decent camera and lens.

What are you going to do? Switch to Android? I'm sure that transition will be a lot easier!

It's feels weird at first, but you get used to it so quickly. The gestures are much more intuitive than the home button. The extra screen real estate is great too. All phones are moving towards this design of no physical buttons on the front of the phone. Wouldn't be surprised if Android rethinks it's approach to navigation.

Are you in Low Power Mode?
What you're describing happens then 100% of the time but has never happened at any other time for me.

Does anyone have a Power Support Air Jacket case for their X, specifically the clear one? Is it any good.

I'm thinking about getting an X next week and I've previously had one of those cases for my iPhone 5 and 6 and just wondering what the newer ones are like,

I'd love for Apple to do some work on Safari, I feel it gets passed over every update. It'd be nice to have a new way of handling tabs, and adding pull down to reload would be great too.
Pull to refresh is one of the most annoyingly misunderstood gestures. It makes no sense to use in a web browser. New content doesn't appear up like it does in a Twitter timeline. Pull to refresh makes sense for a Twitter timeline. Not for a webpage.

Well, this is an odd take. When I swapped back to iPhone for the 7 I had to retrain myself to actually hit the reload button. It makes a ton of sense especially for places like this very forum. I mainly have this place open in my tabs primarily, and I reload often. I'd say it makes fine sense to add to a browser. Probably why most all other mobile browsers have the feature.

New content doesn't appear up in a web browser like it does in a Twitter timeline. The gesture only makes sense when content comes up from where you're currently. That's why you're pulling down.

I'm not following. If I'm on the main forum here and want to see new threads I just pull down and let go and it reloads the page so I can see the new threads. Without that I have to use the dedicated reload button. Chrome on iOS uses it and it works great and allows them to not take up screen space with a reload button.

Add me to the list of people who just recently installed chrome on my iPhone and pull to refresh is not fun, but not sure of a better way

I'm fine with pulling to refresh for anything as well. Lots of apps do it so I'm used to it.

And for one handed use it's great.

I'd actually rather make a gesture like in Slepnir. A quick circle gesture reloads.

I get that you prefer a reload gesture instead of a reload button. No problem. What I'm saying, though, is that the specific gesture of pulling down to reload makes no sense except in a Twitter timeline or something like that. Pulling down means new content will reload into the top. Effectively an infinite scrolling timeline since new stuff should appear above.

It makes no sense on a forum. Forum threads aren't new on top. Just last modified.

The difference is pretty small to be fair.
Pulling down to load more Twitter-like content in a feed is pretty much hitting a 'reload' button.

Safari could use some gestures.
I'd like a quicker way to switch tabs.

Speaking of pressing the top bar to go to the top, it's so easy to accidentally tap it in the photos app and go all the way back to the year 2000. Surely I'm not the only one?
