I am and am not looking forward to the reveals. It means Albert Park is closer but also the halo. :(

I was visiting England last week and stopped by the Red Bull factory in Milton Keynes. They have a little shop inside so I bought a couple shirts. It's last year's gear and this year's will probably come out soon, but since I never see anything in the states I decided to buy some there. Cool to see the 2016(?) car attached to the wall too lol.

Eh - I'm kind of over the Halo, sure I think the Indy screen is a more aesthetic solution - but I really think the season of nose dicks were far more ugly

After F1's previous US broadcaster NBC announced that it was not interested in extending its television rights deal into 2018, the sport's owners Liberty Media concluded a deal with ESPN and ABC instead.

Now it has been announced that the two American network channels will use Sky's comprehensive F1 service for its coverage. All of the 21 races scheduled for this season are set to be shown.

What do I have to look forward to?

The Sky coverage is in another league compared to NBCSN. Crofty yells a little too much but at least he gets excited at the right time and not on a replay like Hobbs always does. Brundle is great too.

Fewer commercials, much more in depth coverage. Pre and post coverage for quali & race, plus a track parade pre-pre-race show. Make sure you set your DVR to record the additional shows. [edit] Commentators in pink shirts.
I'd be surprised if we get much more than the race on broadcast. Possibly streaming the rest on WatchESPN, though.

Oh, now this is interesting.

What are the live streaming options here?

^

And, yes, I'm prepared for many, many advertisements.

Just watched the Mclaren doc. What an embarrassment all around. Honda undoubtedly for fucking up the engine, but jesus... so many simple mistakes from a team with such pedigree.

Yeah my only complaint is Crofty shouting, it's like he is commenting for radio. I can see what is happening, you don't need to yell at me dude. One other thing I wish they would do is stop talking when we get an in car feed. Sometimes I feel like they don't like "dead" air.

Sky still give cues to other broadcasters to take ad breaks, it's just that in the UK Sky don't take any once the race starts because they'd get so much flak it wouldn't be funny. So in countries where they insist on putting them in the middle, you'll still get them.

And yet, the more money didn't improve it.

It's much worse than the BBC coverage from the years before Sky got the rights. Much, much worse.

They have all practice sessions live, F2/GP3, and an entire channel dedicated to it (with dozens of shows of original content). In what way do you think their coverage has regressed since the BBC had it?

The presenters are terrible and everything is boring to watch.

Jake/DC/Eddie set a standard nobody will hit again. The BBC pre- and post-race coverage was often more fun than the races themselves.

So you prefer essentially a comedy act pre-race to 1) the races themselves and 2) an entire channel with much more content, practice sessions you never saw before and GP3/F2?

Interesting.

It wasn't a comedy act, it was really good and insightful coverage, which also happened to be entertaining.

And no I don't care about anything other than quali and the race.

That's fair enough. However I think the added content provided by Sky more than outdoes what you yourself look for in coverage. There's been some amazing racing in GP3/F2 this year, I've also really enjoyed the Legends series as well.

I suppose it's a bit unfair of me to label Jake/DC/Eddie as a comedy act, they do serve some good humour in their segments, but nothing much more than what I think Herbert/Hill/etc etc provide for Sky. If that's all that BBC has over Sky, then fine - but I think Qualy and Race wise Sky are more than up to the standards we saw with the Beeb.

Not bad, I kind of like it. Halo blends rather well in those shots. I like the reduced shark fin as well.

I don't think they're hiding anything, especially when you can just crank up the brightness.

Is Richard Mille sponsoring both Haas and McLaren now? I remember from the Amazon documentary they said it was a multi-season contract.

Edit: Nvm, I was too lazy to check Haas's (boring) last year's livery. ;) Anyway it's a better looking one for sure.

The Haas looks good, needs some blue tho.
Max has revealed his new helmet design. Super boring.

F1 liveries are so generic. Where are the crazy patterns... give me some bright colors at the very least! Need to see that Red Bull.

Because patterns and bright colours are not always a great combination to show when you have brand names and logos that need to be seen on TV going at speed.

This is why all those lovely photoshopped liveries people love as eye candy will always remain as a concept.

The first thing I thought after seeing the sidepod inlets was "so that's why he said they want to be 0.5 seconds behind Ferrari... it practically IS a Ferrari!"
But obviously many teams will take some "lessons" from Ferrari and Merc's 2017 challengers. They were simply that far ahead of everyone.
