I rewatched Thor: The Dark World right after Thor, which is probably my third time seeing it. It's not a bad movie. It's just impeccably bland and uninteresting. For one, many scenes are set on Earth and while nothing happens here (besides the portals in the third act), they don't even have the humor that worked in the first Thor. While Erik Selvig is dealing with the aftermath of his brain wash, the way it goes about this doesn't really work, and for me seems out of character, even if he is clearly mentally ill. Darcy is good levity, and I think she works, but her intern doesn't. Jane is the last Earth-based character, and I like how her arc bring her to outer space and sees her infected with the aether. It is interesting and it builds a little tension, but then the movie drops the ball entirely with the main plot. The Convergeance is fine, and it's a very nice set up, but Malekith the villain has no compelling motivation. It's just not there, and all it comes down to is revenge on the Asgardians and to see the universe wiped with darkness. It's a good stick for the character, and the connection between him, the aether and Jane is a solid one, but the execution is lackluster, and Malekith is given no time whatsoever. Time is instead wasted on Earth scenes, when they could have expanded Malekith. What works, is Loki as the anti-villain. He was great in Thor, and is the greatest part about The Dark World, with his mischievousness, ultimately dealing with his own plan of overtaking the throne. The Dark World continues building on top of the beautiful world created by its predecessor, adding wonderful flying Viking ships, some very nicely looking dark elves ships that we get to see close up, and expanding the world with a look at Vanaheim and putting Thor up to clean up the realms. They actually give Frigga a worthy end by showing her capable at fighting, and ending it nicely with an Asgardian ceremony that could have been more emotional with a more hitting score and visuals, but still sets out to do what it planned on doing decently. See, Thor: The Dark World is definitely not a bad movie, it's just incredibly bland and uninteresting, and that's a shame when it succeeds in expanding the world and giving us striking scenery. But that more than anything is a testament to the strength of Marvel Cinematic Universe, that a bottom three movie isn't bad per se, and still an easy watch.

the rules changed then. Set photos are also often posted without spoilertags.

Tbf in the first video of marvel discussing Infinity War production there is concept art from Thor standing right next to rocket with a weapon that is clearly not mjolnir

But yeah I missed that we aren't the mcu production thread anymore with open spoilers.. :( good times.

Sorry guys carry on then and put spoiler bars over it.

New international promotional poster:

Really doesn't show anything new. Just pits the international character cutouts together.

I love the MCU so much.

Finding Myself thinking about the sequel to Spider-Man a lot lately. Questioning whether or not it will maintain the light and fluffy tone of Homecoming, a movie I love.
I am (not so) secretly hoping it can find a way to make our hearts break for Peter, the way Sam Raimi did so beautifully in Spider-Man 2, while still retaining what made Homecoming special.
Homecoming nailed the character of Spider-Man and is fun as hell, but no one has made me root for Peter like Raimi and Maguire.

I'll be fine if the marketing machine for Infinity War blows up in March. I'll have all of February to boast in Black Panther greatness.

Does merchandise not count as "marketing material"? The toys will be released before the movie releases, so this info was getting out one way or another. Only difference is that we know now a month earlier because of the box art leak.

Funko is going to announce all of their IW product lines any day now, and those will likely reveal new things we haven't seen in the trailers. Would posting them be off-limits?

I can't express how much I DETEST the Black Panther suit with the eyes uncovered. It just cheapens the shit out of a fantastic outfit.

Is it just concept art for the movie? Is it this book?

I finally finished my reread of Coates' Black Panther run Vol 1-3, so now I can move on with Vol. 4. And then get back to Priest's run. This shit is good.

That looks nice, especially the cover with the "Discover Wakanda."

I'm really contemplating going on a black out for Infinity War. I didn't plan on getting spoiled left and right for Black Panther, but when that unexpectedly happened reading through the reviews, the lit was open and I couldn't hold back my curiosity after that, and got spoiled reading more and more reviews.

So now I'm here, contemplating that. I probably can't do it though.

New Infinity War Spider-Man action figure, once again showing what we've seen from the Lego set:

21st Century Fox President Peter Rice Thinks Fox Better Fit for Disney Than Comcast
Talks about the recent Comcast rumors.
"We've had a speculation-palooza," admitted Rice when asked about Comcast's moves. He admitted that Fox assets would be a great complement to both companies, but argued that ultimately if he had to choose, Disney would be a better partner. "We are excited about it," he said about the announced deal.

The Super Bowl spot was the last bit of Infinity War media I'm voluntarily consuming until release. Black Panther and the MCU rewatch will keep me sated till May arrives.

Do we still spoiler Thor: Ragnarok talk in here?

Because I came to think of something. With the impending slaughter of the Asgardian people at the hands of Thanos, this means we won't get any stunning imagery of he Asgardians going to war against him with their impeccable warriors. The Dora Milaje is one thing, but they ain't no military with thousands of soldiers. I want to see flying Viking ships, and the Valkyries on horses flying into the battle field. If Loki exchanges the Infinity stone, then hopefully that means the blessing of the entire people and not just Loki himself. He can go fuck up Xandar and the Nova Corps instead.

You're speculation isn't entirely correct.

Thanos doesn't slaughter all of the Asgardians. Loki trade the Tesseract in exchange for Thanos sparing them.

It doesn't change anything though. Because I was just reminded that no warriors got onto the ship in the first place. They were all civilians, and then Skurge lol. Also, I thought the rumor went, that the exchange spares Loki and only him.

If Doctor Strange don't teleport Jotunheim Beast from London to Wakanda for the big fight I'm gonna scream.

So I've been long thinking, when we see the invasion of Wakanda happen in the Infinity War trailer, is that the Alkama fields? Or maybe the fields we see in the trailer are still outside Wakanda's borders.

Thor: Ragnarok spoilers:

A lot of the promotional content has been made months ago and reused and rehashed to make news pieces. Thor as he is shown was mandatory not to spoil the big surprise in his film. More current material like the latest trailer show him in his new condition.

While he may change again in the upcoming films, this is not something you can infer from that sort of material. New material designed specifically for the future films, like toys, are much better for the speculation train.

But he appears to have a scar around his eye.

Cmon you know they're not gonna make beautiful Chris Hemsworth wear a damn eyepatch for more than one movie.

I already clicked on something IW related I'd rather have not.

I knew nothing about Black Panther asides from what Civil War told me, and it was so amazing because of it.

I have to wait until Saturday Night. Somehow I have yet to crack.

Infinity War is going to destroy me though.

Man, Black Panther...

More than any other comic book movie, this one absolutely nails the balance between so many genres and tones. And their takes on Black Panther lore were fantastic. The movie had me at the edge of my seat for most of its running time. You guys are in for something special.

One of these days an MCU movie will come out in America first and then you'll be sorry, rest of the world.
