I think he was only in charge because he survived the initial attack. That and I don't think Kurapika wanted to be that forward with taking over.

I think leaks were a bit early last week and maybe the week before, I don't remember.
Difficult to get really invested in all the new lore elements and the millions of characters and abilities introduced when i know we're getting a new hiatus in a couple of weeks. Still, interesting stuff but yeah.
Just like we saw all of Kite's weapons. I could see Togashi killing off one of them before we see what they can do.
Kite still shown is hatsu even if not all of it, and now that he's back we might see more later on.
With the princes it's now or never they aren't coming back, and Togashi has been going all around them showing their nen beast powers, so far everyone is having a turn.
I'm still on team "the nen beast of the winner of the contest gets to absorb the nen beasts of all the others".
It would explain whatever the hell the currents king nen beast is and that way Togashi can skip showing them all.

That would be way to crazy, that would mean that the current King was all the nen powers of all the former princes all the way to the beginning of the country, when this ritual started.
I mean the King have 8 official wives, his nen beast being a boob's monster makes sense, it fits him.
Camilla is still not out, she gonna be force to use her nen beast now that her hatsu have been revealed.
Camilla's hatsu if foolproof, the cat materialize just next to the killer.

We don't know much of the King's personality, it could fit him or it could be something else entirely.
The King did say that the dead will fuel the great tree of Kakin after all.
There has to be a reason for the candidates to not be able to drop out of the game and there has to be a reason why the bodies are then kept in that weird chamber (that chamber could be a separate Nen space btw).

That's what I think too. Maybe the winner gets to absorb the rest of the Nen beasts to increase their own pool of Nen for their own ability or maybe they also gain their competitors' abilities on top of that, but I still think the winner is going to or at least is expected to absorb every other Nen beast. Who knows if it's actually going to happen.
A lot of text to mull over this chapter and we're getting to see some abilities of both the Princes and bodyguards. One of the things that caught my eye was the interaction between Fugetsu and Kacho with the tunnel. Melody was able to sense Kacho's heartbeat increase when she noticed Fugetsu, but she wasn't able to actually hear Fugetsu's. This makes me think that Fugetsu wasn't actually there and instead it was some sort of projection caused by one or both of their Nen beasts. Kacho didn't even seem that surprised to see Fugetsu pop out of nowhere on her bed.
Yeah but with her being in Benjamin care she lost that ace for now, her nen beast being unknown is gonna be key for her.
The King having official 9 wives and 14 kids (i wonder how many bastards the guy have) it makes more sense for his monster appearance, but you right it could be other reason.
Maybe it could be raw nen power, if a prince could reach Youpi levels of nen capacity it would be big for a human.

The royal guards are something else...then again the RG and the King are special children that the Queen poored the best in them (especially the King who was basically the full aura of something like all NGL people they could find).
We know that the situation in Kakin changed recently so the dynasty isn't that old but still a few generation of Nen condensed into a person could lead to impressive results.
Which brings me to my next point, the disasters are going to be something else entirely.
They're a match to Humankind as a whole after all, the expedition is going to end in slaughter (but we knew that already).
I don't think its that impossible, Youpi had 10 times more nen than Morel, if every generation of Kakin line creates a person of that level, then 10 generations later they could be close to that nen power.

Also nice AlienVsPredator nen that guard got, once it's activated though he can die and transfer his nen to Benjamin.
The 1st Prince winning would be a bit too on the nose but he's going the thin the ranks much quicker than expected.
the RG's nen pool didn't increase, they just got better at using it.
the King however get stronger the more he eats, by the end he hate 6/7th of 2 RGs.
I don't think we'll be seeing anything on that level till we see the other calamities.
Your Nen pool can be improved. The point is that because the Royal Guards were outliers and such incredible talents, they could of been so much stronger in every area in time. Aura-pool included. Nothing Kakin does is keeping up.
From what we've seen through Knuckle's eyes, Yupi wasn't growing his pool much.
He still was going to be bankrupted in using the same amounts regardless.
Pitou and Pufu didn't grow as much in comparison (although I'd say Pufu was probably the most unpredictable).
Depending on the amount of time Kakin has been pooling nen, they could catch up but it's unlikely that they could be on that level let alone the Reborn King.
The Royal Guard thing for the winner of the succession war is based off speculation from that note about the Dark Continent which had a bunch of numbers adding up to 800,000 something. People speculated it was the Nen amounts of the princes and the final number was the accumulated aura of all them and that it would be more than someone like Youpi had.

It seems for the next chapters we are going to have 2-3 new nen ablities/beasts revealed (the previous chapter was the owl soldier, Benjamin and Cammy), covering all the sides, then the real fight will start.

Conjurer/emission transport ability. Who knows the range, or if it can also create special places like pocket dimensions.

Manipulator. People who breathes the smoke are slowly affected. It's more suggestion level of hypnosis, than full control, but in exchange who knows if there is a limit to the number of people affected. The interesting thing here is that is transmitted with a virus, so given enough time, it should 'infect' the entire boat!
Also Rihan's hatsu is cool, an ability that grows in power the more accurate your guesses and analysis is of an enemy power. Weak point: you actively has to make guesses of something complex, if the enemy has a simple reinforcement attacks, you can't guess shit and it will be super weak against them.
Togashi also teases the third prince nen beast ability. I think it will be another manipulation type thing, based on buying people with money. I think it coincides with his personality, Benjamin mentioned something about him being greedy or decadent, and he controls one of the Mafia families.

Again, I think Kakin's pool will end up being around Royal Guard level. My point is that the Royal Guards were literally babies in terms of Nen, they had so much room to grow, they're the top-tiers of Hunter Hunter. For example, we saw tremendous growth with Youpi in such a short amount of time. If they'd survived they'd be way ahead of anything Kakin can produce. Considering Youpi's improvement for example, there's no reason to believe his aura pool also wouldn't increase.
The guy seems to mistrust hunters and thats weird considering his team has the most pro-hunters of all the princes.
Yep, the guy that Kurapika stole his nen from, it seems the transfer to Benjamin happens regardless if it's stolen or not.
Despite needing a refresher now and then, I love seeing all these distinct looking guards with their own missions and nen abilities. I'm not lying when I say I'm more into this prince battle now than I am about Hisoka and the Phantom Troupe being on that boat, tho them reaching the top floor and throwing this whole scenario into absolute chaos is gonna be great too

Good catch. Perhaps Fuu's body doesn't materialize completely until she's fully out of the tunnel, so there was no heartbeat to be heard.

I liked it too, but I'm also someone who enjoys text-heavy things. I can definitely see why some wouldn't like both this chapter and basically this whole arc for the same reason why I like it.
I enjoyed it as well. Some people just seem to hate reading a large amount of text in a shonen manga.
I've never had an issue with the text heavy shift this series has had, because it's only been drawing me in deeper. I'm an extremely slow manga reader, so it always takes me quite a bit of time to get through these kinds of a chapters, but I have never found chapters like this to be unrewarding. I have honestly never felt more immersed in a manga series. Shit feels like it's about to pop off at any moment. The tension is palpable.
Exactly! It's like what fuck is that about? What significance will that ability hold? There are still so many unknowns regarding the nature of these Nen Beasts, and the journey has only just began. So many people are going to die on this ship.
