Looks like a poster from The Sonic Stadium forum that has previously made accurate leaks about Sonic Forces is now stating that the new Sumo kart game is going to ditch the "All Stars" Sega characters and focus exclusively on Sonic and his friends:

Mods have indeed confirmed that they were the same user that leaked the Sonic Forces character editor:

https://board.sonicstadium.org/topi...sw-2018/?page=15&tab=comments#comment-1197962

And of course, we know that some knowledgeable user on this forum has apparently hinted at the same thing during the past days.

So, what would you think about it?

I would honestly be really baffled and extremely disheartened. Sega fans rarely get any kind of satisfaction ever, and this just feels like yet another slap in the face. Also, that would be such a nonsensical decision, since how well received the previous All Star Racing games were and how much they talked about relaunching old ips.

God damn it Sega. Sonics friends are some of the worst parts of Sonic. Why not give your unused IP some screen time in a fun kart racer. Fucking lame. Having characters and stages from all of Sega is such a better idea than Sonic, his dumb ass friends, and just Sonic stages, much of which will probably come from modern sonic.

That's pretty sad actually...

They could have kept it open as a Sega Kart game and expand on how many Sonic characters got in instead of going exclusive Sonic only.

The classic Sega IPs were pretty much the reason I started (and stayed with) the series in the first place. An all Sonic racer is decidedly way less interesting, and I say that as a Sonic fan. Even Burning fucking Rangers got some love in the series.

...that said, better be a Mania track or two in this bitch.

It's just an easier sell probably. Kids have no idea of Sega's history, or wide portfolio even. While people like us on a forum love the weirdness of Football Manager Vs Danica Patrick, I can imagine there being a lot of feedback from younger people saying they only played as the sonic people.

Not even Nights or Alex Kidd? C'mon these characters would look great in a kart racing game!

They already said SXSW would show off the direction for the next Sonic game, sounds like this would fit the bill.

Really liked the All Stars aspect. Hopefully it doesnt mean the gameplay has also been simplified to target a younger audience.

Either way. Quite excited to play it

Man eff this shit. Renaming the series to "Sonic & All Stars" as opposed to "Sonic & Sega All Stars" was fine but that should've been enough.

Laaaaaaaaame. I guess that' how Sega can claim they weren't lying when they said a new All Stars Racing wasn't in the works.

I figured as such from the hint drops from some in the know in the previous threads, basically I can believe this.

Problem is, it feels like a regression, losing all the Sega fanservice across characters, tracks and music to be replaced by more Sonic stuff just...ain't right.
I'm sure there's a market out there, a potentially bigger one, that'll be more excited for a roster whose new reveals include silver the hedgehog as opposed to 90's Sega throwback.
But this here is Era of the niche market, so I'm just gonna sit here and POUT.
(and if any other Sega characters outside the sonic bubble make it, you know it's gonna be like Billy Hatcher or Aiai at best)

This...seems to be in line with all the news that's been going on:
  • Aaron saying there isn't a new "Sega All Stars Racing."
  • The toy company saying they're making stuff for just "Sonic Racing."
  • Something getting revealed at the SXSW Sonic the Hedgehog panel.
Honestly I'm alright with it, I just wish we could've gotten to play as his friends in an actual game instead of a racing game. Nevertheless, Sumo Digital arcade racing games are always a blast so I'll be there.

This would be really disappointing, I loved playing as the Jet Set Radio/Crazy Taxi characters. Why would they limit themselves to only one franchise? Also I'd love to play as Kazuma Kiryu or Goro Majima in this.

Like I said in the other thread, this would make me much less likely to rush out and buy it as I'd likely be happier just replaying Transformed.

I don't see why someone who only likes Sonic could be unsatisfied with the amount of Sonic content in the previous games anyway, as there was still a lot. If true it seems like a backwards step.

And there goes my interest, faster than Sonic, and I've heard he's pretty fast

Yeah they should have expanded the All Stars part of the last game.
Slight disappointment, hope the game'll be good.

Putting Sonic stuff to the front for marketing purposes was one thing, but ditching the other Sega franchises and going exclusively Sonic would honestly probably put me off the game even if it was as good as the first two :/

Well, they did have a lot of old characters revived in Sonic Forces...I guess they could use those models now for a new Sonic game...

Yeah, your probably right. Just suuuuuper disappointing because frankly a kart racer exclusively about Sonic is not nearly as interesting as a kart racer exclusive to Mario. Sonics friends are trash aside from a select few. I feel like they could just add more Sonic characters and keep the other Sega characters in from the last 2 games.

It's similar to what Nintendo is doing with Mario spin-offs. It's all core Mario elements and no extended-universe stuff.

I like Sonic's friends, I honestly don't think they're as bad as people make them out to be.

Like, genuinely, I just don't understand why they get so much hate. I think they're all pretty great in their own way.

Except Silver. He sucks.
Mighty stinks too.
