Chapter 8's C-Side will be the end of me! ;_;
I felt like it was easier than Chapter 7. It's insanely long, but no individual section is really that tough. Make sure you can do the speed jump reasonably well, as that's the final challenge and you don't get a lot of practice as a result.

By the way, how are you supposed to figure out the blue crystal in 1st area or blue crystal in 6th area on your own? Are there any hints whatsoever?
Sure. The birds in Chapter 1 are each a color, and they clearly "dash" in a particular direction when they all spread out, correlating colors to directions. You just map the sequence of colors that the computer is spelling out to their corresponding directions, then execute those dashes to get the heart.

In Chapter 6, you have to use the color to direction mappings from Chapter 1, then interpret the wall symbols to flip them appropriately.

The speed jump is the part I'm really having trouble with. I only get to that point once every 20 or so attempts and I mess it up. I've done everything else up to this point w/o assist mode so I'm not going to bite the bullet!

Just beat the main story with 85 strawberries and 2700+ deaths. So not impressive at all but in any case felt great to me and I cannot wait to make another run to try to find as many collectibles and b sides as possible.

This is definitely my first serious 2018 GOTY candidate right now.

Finally got around to finishing the main game, yeah this is pretty good on the whole, 133 strawbs.

Regarding the mental health aspects...
It starts off stronger than it ends, it gets a bit too saccharine for something like depression, yeah the whole angle of living with it works but less so the whole HECK YEAH ME AND MY NEGATIVE SELF ARE CHUMS, OVERCOME ALL WITH DA POWAH OF FRIENDSHIP.
A nice sentiment but from experience.....nah, not quite, then again I haven't climbed any mountains so who knows

In general I'm not as enamoured with platformers of the die and retry variety as your more standard outings, but if we were to liken this to say a Meat Boy style game, I much prefer it to that. Mostly a good set of stage gimmicks, I really liked the strange block things you dash through from chapter 2, chapter 4 was a bit ho-hum but you'd be hard pressed to not have a mountain climbing outing tackle winds and bouncy clouds.
Due to the collectables and overall length of chapters, I'd personally prefer if these chapters were segmented somewhat (like say 6-1, 6-2) but I can also see why they did it the way they did.

I just finished chapter 2, i can't believe how good the atmosphere was, it felt truly magical in a way i didn't expect at all from a game like this! this game doesn't only invoke nostalgia, it has its own identity and its own character. i didn't play a 2D game this brilliantly designed for a long time.

You can play them segmented if you're returning to completed stages to sweep them for collectibles (and the pause screen, on a completed stage, displays a segmented distribution of what you've collected and what you've missed). It just won't count towards your records for best times or fewest deaths. You can also exit the stages partway through once you have the collectibles you need, and they'll still count.

Oh that's good to know, cheers.
Especially for grabbing my few missing tapes and what not.

Finished the main levels earlier with 5 b-sides completed and a bunch of strawberries left and somewhere in the neighborhood of 2K deaths on the counter. This is a good game. Mixing a brutal spikes platformer with a charming cast and inventive externalizing of the main character's issues acting as level/boss themes is a great little peanut butter and jelly piece of game direction. That wouldn't matter if it didn't play well though, and LAWD does this game play well. The way the gimmicks keeps layering and being remixed through the main progression and even further in the secret stages is just perfectly paced. Some great music too. I'll be shocked if this isn't in my top 5 for the year.

This track elevated the game's entirety for me. I don't think I'll forget it anytime soon.

Agreed. This was a great moment and 75% of that was because of this track..

I just found the PICO-8 and have been going through it and man the screen shake when you dash or die is literally making me nauseous. It's really bad for me. Especially when you're dying repeatedly very quickly and have the double dash stuff going on. I think I might actually have to stop.

Actually, realized I should have asked this sooner so I can start the B-sides- since the Switch version hasn't been patched yet, could someone tell me what polaroid the tape in chapter 1 is actually supposed to be on? It's the only one I'm missing and I just want to know which of the two other sections I should be trying to comb through.

I don't want to know anything beyond that, which the game already would tell me, to be clear.

Okay, I thought birds and computer had something to do with solving the puzzle but didn't figure it out. Now they both make much more sense :D Just felt really out of place compared to otherr areas in game.

Didn't make me nauseous, but it was starting to give me a headache.

Alright, I think I'm done. Finished all the B-Sides, tried the first C-Side and nearly choked in fear. But I got 22 great hours out of the game.

Alright finished platinuming the game. Was really fun. Here's my scorecard, though the 4 B Side was actually 134 deaths. Spent a little too many trying the gold strawberry.

0_0 That is the most impressive scorecard I've seen so far in this thread I think. So few deaths!

I need to still complete C-sides 3 through 8 for the final achievement (on XB1).

I'm at around 31 hours played with close to 6000 deaths lol.

Less deaths on some C-sides than A-sides, are you sure this is your first playthrough? lol
Nah it's just that the C sides are really short. Most are like 3 rooms long or 2. Hated the C side for Mirror Temple though. I'm sure 90% of my deaths there were me smashing my head against the block I was supposed to dash jump off of.

Do c sides only unlock when you finish all the b sides? Chapter 7 bside is kicking my ass a bit.

Can someone please answer this so I can start the B-sides tonight? I'd really appreciate it!

It is done now. I summit'd the PICO-8.

It's made it very difficult to go back to the normal game now though. I keep forgetting I can grab walls.

Yeah, I also beat it and then immediately had issues with suddenly being expected to climb and only having one dash, hah.

You mean in what part of chapter 1 the tape is? I don't remember exactly, but they always show up as a rectangle next to the strawberries in the chapter select.

Right, but going by the patch notes the rectangle is on the wrong section of chapter 1 before the patch, and as the Switch version is not patched yet I need to know which of the other two sections of the chapter it's actually in so I can go find it.

Hah, I remembered it as wrong right as I posted that, you're right. It's in the third and final part of the chapter, I think it's one of the very last collectibles in it too.

Spent 3 days on Chapter 7 C-side, kinda burnt me out on the game. I managed to finish do it after 1035 deaths, and I only have Chapter 8's C-side left but I really don't feel like it's worth it at this point.

Incredible game though.

Haven't finished the game yet, but I got to reflection and I gotta say, best indie game I have played since owlboy

Edit: also the soundtrack is amazing, just blown away by the whole presentation of this game..

Thanks!

I'm at the point where I should probably start asking for hints for a few specific things rather than just trying to brute force them, so that last bit's actually appreciated too even if I didn't originally ask for it, hah.

Though I will say I managed to find a puzzle last night that I immediately realized how to solve and doing that made me feel real, real smart, so... maybe I should hold off on that for a bit.

I'm really not enjoying the Hotel section. I hope more of the following areas click with me better. I feel like the platforming is beginning to require a level of precision that goes from "challenging" but fun, to "come on". Especially given that a lot of my deaths are dashing in a direction I wasn't trying to.

It's the lowest portion of the game for me. Music is great though.

The only big problem I had with the hotel is that it's hard for me to process dealing with the timing for the moving blobs.

All those headwind/tailwind levels in chapter 4 B-side are killing my hands.

EDIT: Ha, finally beat it!
